  1. This feels rediculously much like the end of 2018, except OU is fully in our rearview mirror. I expect an Alabama-game-esque turnout from both our players and fans.

Maybe we'll knock THEIR QB out of the game (just kidding (sort of)).

  2. The TTU game this weekend has me wondering. How would everyone order the in-state football programs from most hated to least hated or most liked?

I'll take a stab at it.

Tier 1 (born to hate): Aggy

Tier 2 (grown to hate): Rapelor

    Tier 3 (obnoxious): Toads

Tier 4 (meh at best to slightly annoying at worst unless we're playing them): Sand Aggy, Cougar High, SMU,

Tier 5 (might actually cheer for sometimes): UTSA, UTEP, RICE, North Texas, etc.

    Quinn workout video released today...

Give me the QB who can literally hit open  receivers with his eyes closed over the guy who practices full sprint off balance backfoot side arm bullshit throws.

Apologize for the rambling on scheme. I just think people have this polyanna-ish idea that tweaking the defensive scheme will turn the defense into a good unit this year

  5. I refuse to make predictions, but I just want to make a point about the QB competition. The Texas message boards have a loooong history of writing QBs off too soon, and Colt McCoy forever screwed up our expectations for freshman. VY flashed talent but was overall not great his first season. People wanted him to move to WR. Shane Buechele didn't appear to have what it took to succeed at the college level, and freshman Ehlinger had many people on this site thinking he was "simple". Card very well could develop here or he is another Buechele/Jerrod Heard. Ewers may be the greatest freshman ever or he may need to go through growing pains as well.

All that goes to say that the only prediction I am willing to make is that we will likely need Card to let his nuts hang at several points throughout the season. He better have them ready.

He speaks in a borderline monotone. That’ll go over great in broadcasting.

I was wondering the same thing. Do these TV companies have any kind of evaluation process for coaches or do they hire based on name recognition and assume they can train them up on the job?

We are one week closer to spring ball which begins on March 22nd.

*More on Sawyer Goram-Welch to the offensive line. The Longview (Texas) native made the move last weekend, and despite his initial lack of interest in the position, it appears after speaking to coach Kyle Flood this week that he is viewing the transition as a new opportunity.

Goram-Welch will graduate in December. If he likes the switch, and defensive line coach Bo Davis doesn't move him back in June, which we do not expect, he'll be headed toward a master's degree next spring.

Goram-Welch lives with two other offensive linemen, which should help his progression. He'll also be a member of the Pancake Factory this fall, so paying his part of rent should be even easier.

He is viewed as an interior lineman and will work mostly between right and left guard this spring. He not only adds a much-needed body to the O-line room before the big 2022 recruiting haul arrives this summer, he improves the athleticism, too. Though he would have struggled to become a full-time starter at Texas on defense, he’s not out of place on that side of the ball.

*Is there one player that doesn't get the fanfare but is making a strong impression on the team? Jonathon Brooks.

Working behind Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson, the second-year running back is getting a first-round lesson in how to conduct himself as his profile rises. Brooks handles himself like a professional and you can give partial credit to the duo of Robinson and Johnson. Brooks was already a strong prospect, and with a bright future when his number is called, he's taking full advantage of the opportunity. He’ll see increased carries this year before assuming a much larger role after Robinson and Johnson depart.

Robinson and Johnson are also aiding Jaydon Blue's transition from high school to college. That appears to be going better by the week.

*Another player earning his respect is Jaylen Garth. The redshirt sophomore from Port Neches (Texas) Port Neches-Groves has had a few injuries derail his start on the Forty Acres. But he's worked his way back to health, added strength, and is ready to hit the field running this spring. Garth lines up at left tackle and could see some time at right tackle as well. With the small number of O-linemen on campus for the spring he is going to receive a lot of reps and coaching. The athleticism is still there and the return to health has added to his confidence.

*How about one more player who hasn’t been mentioned much but is turning up the intensity? Prince Dorbah. Maybe the clear path to playing time has revved him up, or maybe he’s simply matured, but whatever it is, Dorbah is putting together a solid offseason. He entered this portion of the calendar needing to turn things up and he has.

As we’ve mentioned, players are being graded on a number of factors that boil down to doing the right thing. Videos that make it to public feature players in orange shirts, but those shirts have to be earned. There are other colors for underperformers. Dorbah has an orange shirt.

We’re not ready to place him back on the trajectory he was on as a prospect, but he could give the Buck position a needed jolt.

*While the path to Buck is wide open, Dorbah will not only compete with Ovie Oghoufo and Derrick Harris Jr., but also some cross-training Jacks like Barryn Sorrell, David Abiara, and Justice Finkley.

From our vantage, it sounds like the Texas coaches are going to mix and match the outside linebackers. One would think Ochaun Mathis (if they land him) at Jack and Barryn Sorrell would be the best run-stopping tandem, however the staff wouldn’t want Sorrell dropping into coverage. Dorbah can drop rather seamlessly, or at least, he could in high school when IT saw him at All-American bowl practices.

Sources remain high on the second-year player Sorrell. He has really taken to this bloc of weight training and looks like a full-grown man.

*Strength numbers are indeed improving across the board. Will it show up on the field? Hard to say, but there’s no faking the strength gains being made. A lot of players are hitting new bench-marks.

*The fastest player in the program won’t come as a surprise — that’s Xavier Worthy. The second fastest receiver may surprise — that’s Jordan Whittington. Whittington is also checking in at around 210 pounds. Slot. Machine.
