I went to high school with a Trey Owens so this one hits pretty close to home for me. Hook’em Trey!
-
I’m guessing Trey Owens will at least be a solid 4 star by the time it’s all said and done. He’ll be a good developmental prospect for sure.

Seriously though, if our lawmakers want to investigate something, they should lead a federal probe into why Texas doesn’t have a gymnastics program. #nocloakroom

Unless, Quinn can totally fix his deep ball accuracy struggles, I hope we can make it a major focus to target Whittington, Sanders, and Cain on intermediate routes much more often. Those types of throws are already Quinn’s sweet spot. Let’s emphasize that.

Had no idea we have such a good ‘25 class. Number 1 in the country now with 13 recruits with 7 in top 100 on perfectgame. Just didn’t know our 21/22 classes were…lower than I’d like but I’m not a baseball scout.
I’m not a baseball expert either, but I played through high school. In my mind, baseball more than any other sport, hinges on consistent and continuous player development. You just never know when you’ve maxed out someone’s ability to recognize and react to pitches, their arm strength, etc.

I wonder if UW has much in the way of NIL. I could see him following DeBoer to UW if they can give him some money.

Sydir Mitchell was also playing but not sure if he ever got his name called. I just had the game on in the background while making dinner, so I could have missed it.

Rainer and Gillen are arguably the top 2 ‘24 prep products in the country
So they’ll probably get drafted high and never enroll at Texas? Just want to make sure my expectations are accurately set.

I understand why people are frustrated with him, but how about we stop shitting on him until he’s actually gone. If I had to guess, I’d assume the coaches are giving him through spring practice to shape up. If he doesn’t, he’s cut off. Perhaps we give him the same timeline.

There’s no reason to believe that TCU can’t become the Clemson of the southwest. They’re going to leverage this championship appearance (and possible national championship victory) as well as their conference record against us to pull in some metroplex trophy fish ‘croots for years to come. That said, there no reason why we can’t simultaneously be perennial top 10 teams, but they will be a thorn in our side long after we change conferences.

Wow, we had a bunch of emotional pansies posting in this thread last night. Quinn played a really solid game. I have no doubt he’ll develop this off season and at least raise his floor quite a bit.

I see a lot of descriptions of our linebacker commits refer to them as “off-ball” linebackers.
As a casual fan who does not want to venture to the football board and has been afraid to ask: what does this mean and what is the difference with an “on-ball” linebacker?
Off ball is the crap we had Joseph Ossai doing his first two seasons. On ball/edge/EDGE is what he was doing in year 3.

Gets full credit for money spent on #8 jewelry, when he upgrades it #1 ??
Jewelry stores do this a lot, and I'm often reminded about this around anniversaries, birthdays and Christmas... 🙄
I guess once they’ve gotten you to purchase the diamonds, complimentary rearranging of said jewels is a no brainer.

I can't wait for Sark to pull the classic Dad-coach move by not starting him the first game to appear unbiased, and then starting him at shortstop/pitcher - uh I mean MLB - the rest of his career. Should go well.

Here's his part:
SpoilerDerion Gullette had five phone calls to make. And each time he dialed, the four-star linebacker from Teague (Texas) High School could feel his mind starting to race.
Gullette was prepared. Maybe even overprepared. He’d spent hours writing and revising individualized talking points on his cell phone’s Notes app that would help him articulate to coaches at Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU, Texas A&M and Ohio State why he had decided he would not be committing to their schools.
Still, he was nervous.
“As it’s ringing, it’s like, everything is going through my mind,” said Gullette, who committed to Texas in early August. “You’re telling them and they ask: ‘Is there something that we didn’t do? Or is there something you wish you could have seen?’
“So for me, it was just getting my mind ready to answer those questions and to be ready for that conversation.”
Part of Gullette didn’t want to make these phone calls. How do you tell a coach who has invested countless hours and resources into recruiting you that you don’t want to attend his school? How do you essentially sever a relationship in a matter of seconds that may have been years in the making?
But the more Gullette thought about it — and the more he chatted with his father about the recruiting process — the more he felt as though he had no choice but to make these calls.
So before he committed to the Longhorns, Gullette called the position coach, plus anyone else he had built a relationship with, at all five schools and delivered the news. The last and perhaps most difficult call went to Texas A&M on Aug. 2.
“I built the relationship with (co-defensive coordinator and linebackers) coach (Tyler) Santucci for a long, long time,” he said. “So it was hard doing that.”
This is the not-so-glamorous side of what it’s like to be a top recruit with dozens of scholarship offers. Letting coaches down is never easy, and although Gullette said that the coaches from each school took his rejection well, he could tell it felt like a “gut punch” that shifted the “whole mood” of the call. He’s grateful he had these difficult conversations, though.
Many prospects still send a text message or simply announce their decision — with no advance notice — on social media. But others, like Gullette, say that there’s still something to the art of a phone call to say, ‘Thanks but no thanks.
“It really makes a man out of you, I would say, because you’re having to tell somebody you built a relationship with for a while that you’re not going to be committing to their school,” Gullette said, echoing a sentiment fellow Texas commit Johntay Cook shared on social media.

Good bump.
Derion is featured in this The Athletic article about recruits turning down college coaches. Pretty good read. https://theathletic.com/3978878/2022/12/08/college-football-recruiting-offers/?source=user_shared_article

Taking Harris would reek of desperation. Make him have to transfer down a level and prove he can keep his nose clean and grades up for a year before reconsidering.
Also, if a player is truly expelled from school, does he really have to transfer? Wouldn't it just be starting over?
-
When he switched to RB I figured he'd at least be serviceable. It took one game for me to be convinced he had NFL potential. He deserves all the love and recognition that comes his way. When he retires from the NFL as a millionaire, give him a Michael Huff role in the RBs room.

Now that would be unprecedented.
Also, the recruiting board's transfer thread grew by 11 pages in two damn work days. Thanks @LTtxfanfor starting a thread for just actual news.

Track / field and cross country surprises me
It's very rare for schools in non-mountainous or cool climates to compete for a championship in XC. Arkansas is the only major exception and that was back in the 80s/90s. We'd need to allow our team to train with UTEP and attend classes remotely to stand a chance.
