  1. I negotiate things for a living, and this negotiation has been flat out botched. We're going to end up paying an extra 10-15 mil because we fucked around with all those low ball offers. It's also going to cost us Tyler Adams. Adams was never going to be more than squad depth for us, but it turns out that squad depth is pretty important sometimes.

Just a master class in how not to do this shit.

  2. Nkunku came out of the game with a knee injury after a mid-air collision against Dortmund in our final friendly. Hoping like hell that it's just a contusion or sprain vs. a ligament tear.

ESPN ran a blurb about Mbappe being open to a 1 year loan to Chelsea before signing with Madrid on a free next summer. As a fan I'd obviously love to see him wearing our shirt for any amount of time, but I am sure the loan fee wouldn't be cheap. I think you'd have to believe you have even a 10% chance of convincing him to stay, but the real odds are probably more like 1 in a million. Maybe they rationalize it by seeing it as the key to a quick return to UCL football?

It's fun to think about, if nothing else.

  3. Expensive players aren't the answer. Since Roman left we've had zero identity or direction. It starts at the top and trickles down and currently the top is clueless.
Chelsea is basically the Yankees right now. There is zero direction - zero cohesion - zero passion. It's a massive brand struggling to put legitimate play on the pitch.
This is my PL club. I've made that decision. Whether Pulisic is on the roster or not. I'm all in.
The current squad is a fucking disaster no matter how much money is thrown at it. We're close to as big of an embarrassment as Tottenham despite spending three times as much.
Acting like someone like Caicedo is going to fix everything is ridiculous. The culture is shit.

I do believe in Pochettino. Maybe he'll knock some sense into the dipshit management group we've got going right now.

This is more than a tad hyperbolic. Expensive players alone are not the answer, but you need to acquire legit quality coming off the season we just had.

It was clear Boehly was taking big/wild swings at the beginning, but I’m seeing clear signs of progression in our acquisition strategy and more discipline in general. I think Poch has a lot to do with that as he has a clear vision for the shape and style of football he wants to play. Potter was so far out of his depth that he got run over.

I’ve generally been happy with the approach this off season. We’ve done some savvy business on both sides of the ledger and I think one or two larger purchases to raise the ceiling of the squad will have us positioned to make a run back towards a top 4 finish.

  4. Lived there through 4 straight falls. Rain is not the issue. Short days and lack of sunshine is the problem, especially in November and December. Once the area slopes are open (Snoqualmie, Stevens, Crystal) you learn to survive by getting out on the mountain as often as possible. It gives you something genuinely fun to look forward to on the weekends, which I found to be critical.

  5. Normally I would agree but not anymore.  Almost all teams are replacing a huge part of their roster every single year now.  We aren’t alone in that and so it shouldn’t be to our detriment near as much as it would have 5 years ago.  We also still return our PG, which is a big part of mitigating the roster turnover.

I think the point is that our team realized outsized benefits from keeping our roster together LAST YEAR, and that we won’t have that tailwind this year.

  6. I believe the TexAgs guys use Oak Liquor Cabinet to distribute their picks. Logistics would be challenging, but there’s a road map on how to do it.

I know Raj well. My group is just a couple miles away and we’ve done three picks with Oak (Lucky 7, Blue Note JJ, and Penelope) that are hitting in the next couple months. If there is legit interest here, I could probably broach the subject with him.

  7. I've only had the Still Austin musician and find it quite boring.
Congrats to them for making a drinkable Texas distillate, but IMO there is no complexity or memorable tasting notes. Value isn't there either.

That’s a bit like saying you’re not impressed with Willet because you drank Pure Kentucky. The Musician is their entry level every day shelf bottle that is meant to always be available. You need to try the Cask Strength and a number of their distillery reserve series to fully grasp the progress they have made in a very short amount of time.

  8. We picked up one that was ~130 proof and I really didn’t love it. It was super oak forward in an unpleasant way. Some of the guys in the group liked it but I won’t be going back to it.

  9. Who did you book the boat through?  Was it a day trip?

It was a semi-private cruise (16-20 people) via Sunset Oia, and I booked it through a travel agency. It was about a 6 hour excursion that took us to various spots along the Santorini coast. We ended down at the docks in Oia and watched the sun set before docking and finishing up. You can book it directly here:

    We did the Diamond Cruise.

  10. Our long delayed Greece trip is finally happening next month.  Anyone have any restaurant recs for Athens, Milos, Sanotrini or Cairo?

I’m on a Catamaran off the coast of Santorini right now. We just had dinner as part of a sunset cruise. The food won’t be the part we remember, but the experience of the cruise will always be remembered. Grabbing a sunset dinner at Pacman in Oia (inside one of the Andronis properties) is for sure worth it. Food is really good, and the view as the sun sets over the ocean is pretty tough to beat.

In Athens, we ate at Vezené and Hill Athens Rooftop. The former had the better food while the latter had a great view of the Acropolis and solid Greek fare.

  11. After reading the rest of the thread, I see my opinion is not as much of an outlier as I had assumed. Call it fantasyland all you want, CTJ. It's still a possibility given the right circumstances.

To be clear, I think your take is completely detached from reality. The only scenario where that is possible involves a season ending injury to Manning before the 24 season kicks off. Otherwise, no chance in hell.

    Carry on.
  12. Hadn't really paid THAT much attention to recruiting this year. Man, Kentucky has a haul:
    • #2 Aaron Bradshaw - 7'0 C
    • #3 Justin Edwards - 6'7 SF
    • #6 Dajuan Wagner - 6'2 G
    • #14 Robert Dillingham - 6'1 G
    • #26 Reed Sheppard - 6'3 G
Surely with all that talent they can make the Final Four next year...

Right, because there have been so many posts on this thread that have stressed the correlation between recruiting 5 stars and going deep in the tournament. It’s clearly an opinion held by so many here.

  13. I’ve seen several with this sentiment, and I just don’t follow it. Is it really unreasonable to expect a guy to honor his commitment once he’s already signed? It’s not like he didn’t have ample opportunity to rethink his decision before. For that matter, you don’t actually have to sign one at all. And it’s not like he wouldn’t have other options if he really didn’t want to come here-go play overseas or in the G league or sit for a year.
I don’t know. I just don’t see how it’s “recruiting suicide” to suffer the consequences of your own actions.

I doubt that I’ll be able to convince you otherwise then. Just understand that every other school in this situation has released the player from their NLI. For us to take a hard line stance would separate us from every other program in a negative way. We don’t want the reputation of being the school that keeps kids tied to the program against their wishes.
  14. I wouldn’t allocate anything toward 5 stars, especially high 5 stars. I stand by that. Reasonable people can disagree.

    And you lost me again.

Listen, it doesn’t make a shit bit of difference what either of us thinks here. But I’m not seeing a world where we would never want the buzz/juice associated with pulling down the blue bloods. The program benefits from that in ways that go beyond the pure on court product.
