Yep.  Not sure if BeardIP's comment was tongue-in-cheek, but I don't think things will work out the same if guys in keffiyehs start showing up to protests "exercising their 2nd Amendment rights."

  2. So the key to a successful non-violent protest (i.e., not being beaten, cuffed and hauled off to the pokey) would seem to be showing up with AR-15s.  Is that how this is supposed to work?

Goes along with the "IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU" argument that @henrygandorf and I have discussed for years now regarding the the political bullshit in today's world. Wanting Israel to stop killing innocent Palestinians is not "anti-Semitic". It doesn't mean people want Jews to suffer. It's a completely disingenuous argument but part and parcel in our current society. We have become so selfish and narcissistic that our ability to critically think has completely vanished.

If anyone has read a book/article that speaks in more detail about this, please let me know.

Well, these are the same people that brought you "The schools can't teach the ugly parts of US history because it might hurt little Kayden's feelings", so I'm not sure that we're going to make a whole lot of progress here.

Gaaawd, I hate motherfuckers like Alito who drop the "I want a simple, clear-cut answer" to complicated issues like this. He's obviously equipped to deal with nuance, and she had just answered the question as clearly as it could be answered.  It seems like he was looking for a "well, an abortion might be warranted in some limited mental health emergencies " so he (or Fox News) could scream, "Aha!! Mental health isn't 'real' and all those liberal doctors are gonna be using this as a basis for terminating pregnancies at 37 weeks!! SLiPpeRY SlOPe!1!!"

Too early. Once it settles on a Dem nominee, the polling will reflect. Popular cross party governors don’t win. Linda Lingle, Phil Bredesen, Steve Bullock, etc

Agreed.  And I'd still probably trade him for Manchin given how frequently Manchin fucked the Dems.

Guys, I've been giving this a lot of thought, and I think I've come up with the PERFECT solution that NONE of you will be able to find a fault in.

Let's give most of Far West Texas to the Israelites and let them voluntarily move there. It's got mountains and access to both the Pecos and Rio Grande rivers. In the northeastern portion of that area, there's a fuckton of oil. So, they ought to make a pretty good economy out of it.

    image.thumb.png.f807c5dee2bf8549dbb93fcbaa9de00e.png

Plus, they'd have a whole bunch more land than they currently have. Yeah, there are a few people out there, but not many--I'd guess maybe 40,000 more or less. So, it's not like they'd be displacing many folks. They'd easily have a majority and be guaranteed a Jewish state.

    image.thumb.png.c76b88b13cd627e56495f1804be192dc.png

Sure, we'd be forfeiting the Davis Mountains and Big Bend, but I'm willing to make that sacrifice so long as they allow Americans to visit. Plus, we'd get a groovy new trade partner to join NAFTA.

What's not to like? I CHALLENGE ANYONE to come up with faults in my PERFECT PLAN! Why can't y'all see my wisdom?

Plus, they're pretty good at border security, so it should be an easy plan to sell to the GQP ...

Point of order, Jones gets no relief from bankruptcy in his rulings. This is him just playing in the mud to slow things down and deny justice.

    https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/judge-rules-alex-jones-cant-use-bankruptcy-protection-to-avoid-paying-sandy-hook-families

The families who won the verdict against Jones went to his personal bankruptcy hearing and offered a settlement of $85M (per AP), and Jones has REJECTED the grace of those families.

So no, I don't think he's begging for help. He's turning it down from the people he victimized and is instead trying to play the victim, just like every goddamn fucking fascist does after they start to Find Out. I don't understand why you have such a weird reflex to be contrarian towards me in favor of objectively horrible people.

That's what I remembered.  It seems like, in this sort of situation, the plaintiffs should be able to say, "This motherfucker shouldn't be spending a fucking cent on anything other beans, rice and a studio in East Austin until we're totally paid off."  I know that there is a balance in trying to keep a debtor motivated to generate income to pay his debts, but I'd probably lean towards "fuck that, I'd rather see him suffer ..."

Well that was fun! The gorgeous blues of a clear sky weren't visible but otherwise pretty cool. That last minute where it gets geometrically darker/faster is still something to behold.  Also cool to compare the two (2017) for me. BTW roosters did start crowing here and birds definitely stopped completely, we were looking for that and got it.

BTW, this was the one hope I/many others had - a recently-discovered confirmation of a long-believed phenomenon. This article is why the clouds parted enough when it seemed like all hope was lost. A quick and good read.

The main risk that RFK poses for Biden is if RFK only focuses on the states where Biden has a small lead. Then he could look to find a way to steal votes from Biden by being the "none of the above" candidate.

By that same token, it would seem like a focused specialty PAC effort in those states would be sufficient to kill any real Biden losses.  My sense is that the people that might vote for RFK Jr. instead of Biden are the low info voters that are just relying on his name.  Getting all of the Kennedy family together on an ad saying "Don't vote for this loon - his dad and uncle would be embarrassed as fuck by him" is all it would take.

has anyone been to FoxNews.com recently?

It use to be pretty good at attempting to look like a balanced legitimate News source, but i think they have given up that charade.

    Looks like a tabloid.

It's been this way for a while, but there has definitely been a continuing slide.  Everything is aimed at riling up the base - for example:

    Quote

Click on the link and it tones it down to:

    Quote

Republicans warm to Social Security, Medicare reform as 2024 election nears

Entitlement programs account for roughly 70% of government spending

Does the base understand the difference between SS / Medicare (which they undoubtedly rely on) and the "welfare" programs that they get spittin' mad about?  Hell no.  To make matters worse, you have to "join Fox News" to even get to the content anymore.  No worries - most folks just memorize the headlines and regurgitate them.  We're soooo fucked.

    In a nutshell -

The damage to the state is going to be irreparable, but the good news for the GQP is that most of their constituents are far too stupid to realize who's to blame so there won't be any blowback.  Time to move north - Austin is going to be uninhabitable in the coming years anyway ...

One of the top searches for that time period — up 3,500% — was "how to watch porn in Texas?" Lubbock scored highest and the East Texas region of Tyler-Longview and Lufkin Nacogdoches searched for the term second most. Corpus Christ came third, followed by the region encompassing Waco, Temple, and Bryan at No. 4. The top five was rounded out by Austin and San Antonio finished No. 7.

Leopards Eating People's Faces strike again ... Of course, it could also be a function of those areas being heavily populated with idiots that don't know how to work the internets.
