  1. BYND covered calls are best I’ve ever seen. I sold $115 and $120 today for May 15th, $4.74 and $3.75 when the stock was around $95. I don’t care if they get called away, >20% profit in 22 days would work for me. 5% “monthly dividend” if they don’t. don’t sweat selling at $100, u made cash. Can always do it again. wish all my trades went this way. BTW, is there a quick screen u can run to pick out equities paying such great prices for covered calls? I just do it manually.
  2. I bought some more BYND. This is definitely a spec pick for me given its such a small cap. But I got the fever for some gambling so F it. it’s been quite a bounce back overall; may fun money account is down under 10% this year...not sure if it’s time to take $ off the table or just keep buying. Really no idea. Might just keep doing covered calls. Another one I want is SHOP if it pulls back $100. I’ve also never bought BABA, and might go that way soon too.
  3. Just wrote a smidge of covered calls for next Friday on QQQ, gotta get my gambling fix. $207 @$2.20 in 10 days; it’s at $199.6. Only way I kick myself is if it’s truly a V and approaches Feb highs in 10 days. Otherwise I pay for this weeks grocery delivery. Let it rain TP!!!
  4. I’m underwater in some BYND that I bought on the way down. I think in 2-3 yrs you’ll be happy you grabbed some in the 60s.
  5. I think a lot of the strategies are purely for Pros. My understanding of Pro comp and goal is some thing along lines of: beat SPY or XYZ index fund. So these models pop up that might out perform said comp goal. individual goal is just to do best as possible and not loose ur ass while working a day job. So different goals. imho I’d say best hedge strategy, cheapest and simplest, is trailing stop loss or ITM Calls as stock replacement; downside is limited on both, while still providing upside potential.
  6. I’m wouldn’t lowest cost hedge be to sell the equity and adjust your asset allocation? The only downside would be if you have massive capital gains. puts are expensive. You really have to limit all upside potential with a zero cost collar like that. another issue I’ve found with collars or spreads is they are really hard to trade. I’m an amateur, but my models are always built on holding to expiration. But it’s hard to hold options to expiration. So when you want to unload, even if you guessed right, it’s still hard to make a reasonable amount of $$$$. bottom line: keep it simple stupid, set ur asset allocation and let it ride. Get ready to buy more when we revisit March lows, which should be soon. When everyone is buying more puts on this board, u buy yourself some MSFT. Sell some OOTM covered calls when it has two up days in a row.
  7. Dumped last of my TSLA shares yesterday. It’ll prob rally long term and I might buy in again at some point, but wanted to book some profits this week based on the recent rally. It’s volatility was a bit distracting for me, so it’s gone.
  8. I don’t think today’s rally is all Americans piling in new cash...rather the professionals covering their shorts all at once just in case the stimulus passes. tomorrow will probably be a big down day, just cause today is up so much, just like last few weeks. probably should sell a little. I’ve never seen such wild swings, computer AI algs going crazy!!!
  9. I like Athlean X. Jeff has taught me a number of tricks, and does a good job explaining the anatomy lesson too. I used to put on one of his utube vids while warming up before doing that muscle group...very helpful.
  10. I’ve been buying a little each day this week, none today. Bought me some AMZN, GOOG, BYND, and MPWR. Some mega caps and some small caps. One thing I’m aware of is my personal tendencies to chase stocks that are breaking out. I’m concerned if I wait for the all clear market rally and clear Co visibility, then I’ll be back in my tendency of buying high. So, trying to catch the falling knife...doesn’t need to be the bottom, just needs to be higher in 3-5 yrs. I’m fortunate to not need the money...others prob have different risk profiles. you guys trading options, good for you and I hope you keep locking in profits. I’ve done options for a few decades and man does it test emotions. I’ve limited myself to just selling covered calls last few years...used to do naked puts, OOTM Calls, and such...made a dollar or two, lost a bunch on some foolishness, and definitely felt the same rush as standing at craps table. Good luck to you all.
  11. Been a tough week. Both kids have head colds, so just taking care of them. I don’t think it’s Corona. So we are truly not leaving the house. I already took the week off for Spring break, but not supposed to go to office until April sometime. Did some academics with kids, but really it’s deteriorating into TV and video games. been cooking and drinking a lot. Trying to work out at home but not as fun as gym. I miss all those yoga pant asses, the simple things in life. Need to come up with some more productive home projects as I’m truly sitting here for another month.
  12. So question for intermittent fasting. If I work out in AM during my fasting period, will I loose/limit muscle mass if I don’t eat before the workout? I usually will eat a shake and lunch immediately afterwards, but just coffee beforehand Goal is to add muscle/strength, while losing maybe 5 lbs. I’m fortunate to be lean genetically and in my early years struggled to add weight. maybe other question is can you loose fat at same time as adding muscle? Or better to separate? ive been doing the intermittent fasting for a year or so. Eat like crap 10 hrs a day, nothing the rest. So far I’ve lost a few lbs and strongest I’ve ever been. But recently a bunch of peeps told me it’s a sin to workout on empty stomach.
  13. I’ve been thinking this was just another flu until last couple of weeks. I asked a couple of Dr friends if I should be worried, and both surprised me with emphatic yes. Somewhat interesting article on flattening the curve and it’s affects, and why it’s so important to slow the spread. https://healthblog.uofmhealth.org/wellness-prevention/flattening-curve-for-covid-19-what-does-it-mean-and-how-can-you-help I was also surprised to hear from A number of peeps in last 24 hrs who believe it to be man-made Weapon from China, intentionally or unintentionally released. I came to Surly to find the answers...did China make this bug to kill off olds? Not very natural for a bug to only kill old people, and like zero kids. I’m sure there are some interesting theories here.
  14. I just put some back in...F it... added to kids 529, did my 2020 IRA. Im sure my action will signal the next leg down. But it sure looks like fear is at a pretty high level. I mean is there not going to be life as we know it in the future? I’ll be buying more in March, regardless of up or down.
  15. The only indicator I’ve used before to “predict” market direction is what investors business daily teaches. Essentially looking for consecutive days of increasing volume, on the upside or the downside. It’s not perfect, but it’s all I know. So I’ll be looking for two or more up days with increasing above average volume. This is why I sold some Friday, consecutive down days with increasing volume. You can read the books by Bill O’Neil to learn more. Or just dollar cost average in at a random period of your choosing.
  16. I’ve liquidated a bit more today...highest percent in cash I’ve ever had in my life. Also rebalanced 401k to 15% bonds from 5%. My timing is almost always terrible, so feel free to take the other side of the trade. I don’t have any quantitative reasons other than things have been outstanding last 4 months...by taking some off I can let the rest ride. Also today is second down day in increasing volume...sometimes that’s start of a correction...sometimes it’s a buying opportunity. Flip a coin. The correct decision for today will be obvious in six months.
  17. I like to refer to that as my Wednesday special...
  18. Good gracious on TSLA. Was fortunate to buy some a couple years back. Thought it was a bad idea so only made a small bet. It immediately was under water and stayed that way until last month or so...guess just lucky that I didn’t harvest losses last year like I was thinking. I should prob sell at least 1/3 tomorrow. problem is what to do with excess cash once sold. Was Friday the market bottom? No equities seem to be in good bases at the moment.
  19. Buddy is getting remarried, he’s mid-40s. Meeting him out tonight bachelor party of sorts in Austin. Aside from strip clubs, other alternative clubs downtown? I’m not in wedding party but might steer venue. He likes house music so maybe along those lines.
  20. Time to buy more. I’ve 9 Amazon apps on my phone...hard to imagine this isn’t a buying opportunity.
  21. Options expiration day. AUG Covered calls expiring Out of the money. Now looking to write again. NVDA and DIS I do have some short covered calls Sept AMGN that will be called away, so be it, forced profit taking. #insertT&Agif
  22. Let me expand on my statement for puts as more risk to reward than calls: for selling the Put, assuming at-the-money, you may collect 3%. Max upside is 3%, downside theoretical risk is 97%. Also time-value of capital reserves. For buying a call, ATM, it may cost 2% (calls typically cheaper than puts). So downside is 2%, with theoretical Infintity upside. Ergo, infinity > 3 % on the upside; 97% > 2% on the downside. I’d hate to be waiting to invest while the market moves higher Or if you go with selling OOM calls, you might cap your gains, say 6-8%, while collecting 1-2%. I like this strategy as it’s defined returns done quarterly; not too bad over a lifetime. Bottom line though both are conservative strategies, and you are usually making money either way. Of course you can always pick a historical example which shows one beating the other. Markets up up this morning. Glad I’m in. Insert strippers-and-blow gif.
  23. Looks like solid results to me. Tesla’s are so common here in Austin; seems a pretty obvious trend here. Wish I had bought more shares sub$200...oh well.
