welp just listening to a few SEC Podcast Texas secondary is in for it next fall.

did we put the secondary on the back burner cause we were to focused on our d-line???? Should we have seen the writing on the wall from last season??

yeah we got Makuba but we had a chance at other DBs we didn’t even go after

I believe they went relatively light on portal in secondary because they were in on multiple elite HS recruits and didn't want to spook them.

My concern is that talent may not be the issue in the secondary. Development/coaching seems to be straight cheeks.

Why did no one batsignal me that there was Devin Sanchez talk going on here.

North Shore has been disappointing? Are they supposed to do better than making the state title game 5 out of the past 6 years?

Ignore one of the most successful programs in the state lately because… some players didn’t pan out in college? What about the ones that did? I can name 3 of their guys on current NFL rosters off the top of my head.

And major lulz at Sanchez being anything close to overrated. Yeah 6’2 corners that run 10.8 100s and shutdown the #1 receiver in the country in back to back title games just totally grow on trees.

Sanchez and many of their other stars didn’t grow up around there or in that school system. His older brother played at a Fort Bend school, and Sanchez transferred in to NS for high school. For the superior academic environment.

It’s been beaten to death already so I’ll leave it alone I guess. This board has already made up their minds that he’s a bust and will be terrible. We’ll see who’s right on draft day 2027.

Yeah, I don’t care either. He’s still earning a lot and perhaps it made him a slightly better person.

OR, they were taught the "watch the receiver's eyes" style of coverage and not the "turn your head" coverage.

Correct, that's what I was taught in HS as a safety where PI was rarely called unless you tackle the receiver before the ball arrives, and timing patterns were rare. Corner may be different, never played there.

Probably made easier because he played off ball coverage. What do you think?

    Absolutely.

And I will add, I think most (if not all) of the people who criticize DBs for not turning their heads have never had to cover a fast mother fucker and don’t understand the things that have to happen before the DB can justify turning his head.

The real question is: does Texas DL coach = Texas LB coach?

    26 minutes ago, SimkinsMan said:

It has taken some experimentation, but it's good that Sark has finally found the level of equivalence between Arizona and Texas: An Arizona DC ranks below a position coach at Texas and above an analyst.

Texas DL coach > Arizona DC

    Texas analyst < Arizona DC

Uh oh. Looks like we have a little S. Mano a S. Mano showdown.

LSU as a grad assistant and then assistant coach at North Shore-I mean, if we trying to Moneyball this shit we’d have to agree that’s really good clay as a starting point.  Moreover he wasn’t hired to coach the DL, he was hired by Saban to be an assistant strength and conditioning coach (which was probably a way to skirt the rules on assistant count as I’m sure he was assisting with the position).

Plus that gave him three years under Saban, learning from the best program builder of all time before he was fully responsible for a position group.

Rod, by contrast, has a resume of being just an ordinary Joe working for primarily offensive minded head coaches.

    Is this a bit?

ESPN already noting Texas. They specifically mention Ohio State, USC, UCLA. Sleeper teams: Texas, UCF. Biggest need and ideal fit and won't happen: Clemson.

    Here's the Texas blurb:

      Hide contents

    Sleeper team: Texas Longhorns

This might sound wild with Quinn Ewers returning and former five-star Arch Manning waiting in the wings, but if Texas calls and lays out a plan to increase depth, compete immediately after a redshirt and couples that with Steve Sarkisian's offense and track record of success, you have to listen to that pitch. Quinn Ewers moves on a year from now, Arch Manning would be a redshirt junior and Sayin would be a redshirt freshman.

Sayin should be attracted to Sarkisian's scheme because perhaps no offense in the country does more to set up its playmakers than the Longhorns. Shifts, motions, personnel groupings, a new wrinkle every week, you name it, Texas has it so the QB is set up to succeed if he can handle the moving parts and identify the matchups. Texas has also added several top transfers and former Alabama players since Saban's departure.

What a bunch of idiots. Can’t even get Arch’s classification right.

When these schools cry about losing another player because someone else paid 7 figures for them, it is nothing more than a sales pitch to get their fans to poor more into the collectives. Saban openly asked for additional funds, and now Kirby and the rest of college football are following his lead.

    Freudian slip?

One of those interior DL needs to leave.

Payne looked like a monster in the playoffs and he was hardly playing this year. Even without all the coaching changes it doesn't make much sense for Oatis, Keenan, and Payne to return next year. One of those guys can get a bag somewhere else and be the "guy."

Would be nice if we had a DL coach to entice them.
