Based on gained experience, young guys slotting in and transfers, here is how I see the position groups comparing '23 to '24:

QB - better; Ewers should benefit from another year in the system.  Manning > Murphy as backup.

RB - same; Brooks was better than expected, but Baxter and Blue looked good when he went down.  No dropoff.

WR - same; I thought losing Worthy and Mitchell would be the biggest hit along with DL, but now with Golden and Bond I see virtually no dropoff.

OL - better; should be the strength of the team with much experience returning.

TE - worse; losing JT hurts and no one clearly able to pick up his touches.  Might be better as a run-blocking group though.

DL - worse; losing Sweat and Murphy hurts.  They were the strength of the team this year.  Hard to replace two NFL guys.

LB - worse; Ford was really good. Hard to replace.

DE - same; Sorrell was really good, but I like the guys we have to replace him.

DB - same; lots of attrition here, but also the ability to reload.  We looked to be very thin at safety until we landed Mukuba.  Barron coming back is huge.

Overall, our offense should be the same or better.  Our defense probably worse, especially at stopping the run. We will make the playoff and should do some damage.  We have a team that is good enough to give us a chance to win it all if the cards fall right.

    Agree?  Disagree? I'm a dumbfuck?

I agree with all of that except DB should be better imo

    Good post

RB: I don’t think you watched the bowl game if you think there’s no drop off from Brooks. He’s significantly better than what we have returning.

I agree that our RBS didn't look as good as Brooks in that game this year.

The thing you're overlooking imo is they will be a year older/stronger/wiser/better next season. I like the RB room.

if we had suspended beard for the season and said we were waiting for the facts to come out before making a decision on his employment status, we could have had Terry lead us to the EE after which he either gets a big raise as Beard’s top assistant, or we let him go be a HC at another school. it was when we fired Beard with half the season still remaining and no resolution made on his case that we backed ourselves into that corner.

I feel so bad for any ex-girlfriends you might have

Knowing when to let it go is a big help in life. Beard was never getting suspended for the season and coming back. Let it go.

Beard fucked it for everyone. He had to go.

the optics of an interim well like coach going to the elite 8 coaching the majority of the season and then being unceremoniously told to kick rocks is a bad look and worth seeing through/the buyout if it doesn’t work out. It was absolutely the right thing to do. Let’s not all pile on and act like a tournament miss is a sure thing just yet, but if it does then I think it’s pretty much over for him.

    Thank you. Well said.

If Derka's Doomsday scenarios pan out RT is in deep deep trouble. Hottest seat in NCAAM basketball.

But we have a ton of talent and are only 3 games into conference play.

Chill and see how it plays out. It's not inconceivable that this team gets it together and makes a run. 8 of the top 10 teams lost last week. Let's not act like any team has it all together at this point in the season.

RT also lost his entire recruiting class, which pretty much everyone gave him a pass for, but if you’re going to bring in a two man recruiting class, maybe make sure that both guys aren’t a risk to go pro elsewhere, leaving you high and dry.

this is just one example of the dozens and dozens of small things that fans don’t think about/realize/take into account when assessing a coach. you don’t see that happening with guys who are recruiting to their own system, and you don’t see it happening to top flight coaches.

The interim tag didn’t allow him to recruit at the HS level last year

Perhaps it's time to consider that you might be the pussy here with your insistence on hiring RT last year

I didn’t realize I played any role in that decision. Maybe I should ask for a raise from the athletic department

Shaka also had his defenders on this board even after he sucked the life out of this program. It's a bizarre fan behavior that I can never understand. One coach (Beard) was rebuilding the program after years of mediocrity under Shakablaka and another is coming off an elite eight season with many starters back and several new experienced additions in this age of NIL and portal. To equate the two situations is fucking dumb or disingenuous.

All I said was let the season play out instead of being a pussy about one bad loss

Beard was operating without a year’s worth of coaching over 50% of the roster and starters like RT.

41 of our 73 points yesterday were scored by guys who weren’t on campus last year

The point is that they should have put at least a retractable roof on a stadium in upstate New York, regardless of what the weather is like today. Honestly even with a roof I think the game would have been postponed due to the severity of this storm, but it's stupid to expect teams that far north to be able to host games consistently in the middle of winter. The field will probably be really shitty on Monday, so it could be a hazard for players too. It's an easily avoidable problem for a multi-billion dollar League.

Again the issue is not the field of play. The issue is they’re in the middle of a major storm/state of emergency

You can’t pull hundreds of cops, firefighters, EMTs, snowplows, etc. away from that major storm. And all those people are necessary to host a major event for 100,000 people

A roof doesn’t change that in any way

  9. At this point in Beards 1st year our record was similar. We’d also lost to every team we’d played with a pulse. While we played at WVU later in the season, we beat that shitty 16-17 WVU team by 1 whole point in Morgantown.

That team had the core of last years roster, which according to you all my 4 year old could coach to the Elite 8.

No one was calling for Saint Chris Beards head at that point in time in January 2022

In short, shut the fuck up and see how the season goes. Quit being pussies over one bad loss. It’s like some of you WANT us to lose so you can beat your chests on the internet about how “smart” you are.

The games not postponed because they don’t want to play football in the elements

The games postponed because it would be absolutely idiotic to have a big event for 100,000 people in the middle of a major storm

I’m not sure how anyone over the age of 5 doesn’t understand this concept

Anybody know what time the Baylor game in 8 days is set for tip-off?  Site shows 11am or 1pm, but it's strange they wouldn't have announced it by now.  Have some family in town and wanted to plan for the game.  Thanks.

ESPN says it's at 11 for whatever that's worth

What mess does Terry need to clean up? Maybe I missed something…

Didn't you hear? We went 7-11 in conference play already. Missed the tournament and everything.

There's always next year, I guess...

1-2-3-5 in back to back days. Love it

    Heres my hypothesis…

Our team actually isn’t that bad. It’s just that most teams aren’t that great early in the season these days with the transfer portal due to all the new guys and figuring out rotations, chemistry, etc

We have to start getting more out of Brock.

I know he does the little stuff but 2 points, 0 points, 5 points, and 0 points in the last 4 games. He's also getting really good looks. Needs to hit some of these open looks.

His 3 ball seems to have regressed since last year

My worthless opinion is to see if he can keep next year's recruits and do anything good with them.   If they bolt, or he keeps them and we look like helter skelter again, then cut bait.

    Agreed

im hoping we turn it around but if not RT gets next year and that’s it

Keeping him as interim for so long kept him from being able to properly recruit at the HS level last year. He deserves at least one real shot at that
