I hear this a lot but don’t really see it, at least compared to its peer group (Majek, Tran, Shoalwater, JH, Mowdy). I was on a 90k Majek Reaper a few weeks ago that wasn’t rigged any nicer or worse than my Haynie. Neither will be confused with a Simmons or Isla Morada anytime soon. Would assume there’s some ebb and flow in the finishing, depending on when it was built. I’ve been in some pretty meh RFLs thru the years. I Haven’t been in many Haynies other than mine but have seen some pics that were definitely bleh. We did spec up when we built on a lot of components so maybe what they typically use isn’t as nice. I have my complaints and things I would do different for sure; there are some head scratchers. But people talk like they have exposed glass or come with rats nest wiring or something. Majek does offer a cap which is nice, and Coulter could never figure out how to make one work (there are a few HOs with them but they would supposedly crack)
Rigging is done by the dealer, generally. I bought my Majek from Kresta's and have been happy with the rigging. When I talk about finish work, I'm speaking of the hull itself. Haynies just seem sloppy to me. A friend of mine bought one in the past 18 months. We went on a quick drift fishing trip and I noticed the drain holes from his front hatches to the deck (1) did not have brass through fittings and (2) were not fiberglassed or gel coated. It was just bare marine plywood. That is ridiculous for a $70k boat.
I don't know what JH has done, but they've really stepped up the finish work and rigging on their boats. If I ever move on from an Xtreme, a JH will be in top contention.

So, I'm in the very early stages of looking for a bay boat. Will probably pull the trigger next winter (21-22). My experiences have been primarily with Haynie and Majek. But, I really like the look of the Mowdy as well. Probably something in the 23-25' range.
Needs will be mixed. Some wade fishing. Some drifting. Some bait soaking. Some cruising and messing around. Primarily used around Rockport, but may run down to Baffin occasionally as well. I have a wife and three kids (8-10-12), so dry and smooth ride trumps skinny water at this point. Thoughts or suggestions?
I would get a JH B series before I got a Mowdy. I have a 22’ Xtreme and love it. But I use it primarily for wade fishing. 60% of the time or more I fish alone. The 22’ is not what I would consider a great family boat. Cannot speak to the 25’. If I primarily fished Baffin I would have an Xtreme, JH B series, or a 23’ Magnum. My big problem with Haynie is the finish work is meh. JH or Mowdy will be tippy for drift fishing. May want to consider a Shallow Sport Mod V or Pathfinder.

From the pics, he had a really nice light bar up on the boat. The light bar was on. It implies that he regularly drives at night so he's experienced. Or maybe this was his maiden night trip. Either way I would assume that he could see how close he was to the shoreline and how shallow he was. He should've had time to see the wall unless he was running way to fast for the conditions. All kinds of questions. I feel for the driver, his dead friend and all families involved. That's not something you can ever forget.
That’s not the light bar, it’s the anchor/all-around light. There is a story floating around that the light bar went out on the run to Sanctuary from POC.

Collision was with the east bulkhead. Story is they were going to fish lights in Sanctuary. Light bar allegedly went out on the way there.

@crimsonlonghorn have you tried using a BBQ guru on your BGE to hold temp?

I don't get the concept of pancake mix. Flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar, eggs, melted butter, buttermilk...what's so difficult?
Add a some malted milk powder as well.

What kind of bay fishing do you want to do? Wade or drift? Bait or lures?

So we rented a house in Sea Isle for the week after the 4th. Went last August and had the beach that far down the island virtually to ourselves. Packing all of our food in for the week. No restaurants. Anyone ventured that far down and have reports of what we're in for this year?
Sandbar at West End Marina (Sea Isle) is open and so is Nate's in Jamaica Beach. I think Waterman's in Pirates is open, but would not go based on recent reviews I've heard.

Here's some pics of a brisket I did a couple of weeks ago. I soaked some post oak chunks in water for 24-30 hours and that really helped with the smoke flavor. Brisket was probably about 12.5# after trimming. Cook time was 9 hours at 260*. It was sitting on the counter sliced for a while before I took that pic.

Are there any decent DQ locations in Houston? The one in Spring Branch is an abomination.
Not Houston, but there is one in Stafford on 90 between 610 and 59. There is also one in Sugar Land on 90 just west of Hwy. 6.

OK looking for recs out of Galveston. Staying in Point West. Tried the search function.
4 of us and need for Hatteras type boat. Probably half day and no preference on fish.
If you're staying at Pointe West, it's going to be a lot closer to go to Freeport or Surfside.

Yes, our company has two HD plans, one at 1500/3000, and the "higher" HD plan with a 3000/6000 deductible. Also a PPO plan with 500/1000, but the premiums are so high that the math doesn't work out.
Interesting. I just don't consider that to be high deductible.
-
I pay $50 twice a month for Cigna PPO. Deductible and out-of-pocket are $3,000/$6,000. Employer contribution is about $580 per month. Our firm health insurance is about $42,000/month.

BCBS High Deductible with $1,500/$3,000 deductible
Is that really considered a high-deductible plan?

over shell? and how deep?
Over sand and grass. Thigh to waist deep. Fish were pulled up on the flats. Best and most fish came fishing a color line.
Fished the same area last Friday without a sniff.

Went out this morning for a quick trip. Only got out at two places. All of the trout I caught were fat (up to 4.5#). Met some buddies at the second stop. One of them had a 4# flounder. Kept three fish to eat. All of our fish were caught on Saltwater Assassins.

This. Even when I tucked my pants into the boots, they still caused blisters. Fuck that noise.
ForNeverLast is about to release Kevlar socks. I question how much they'll protect against stingrays, but an interesting option if they do.
