We don't have a popular initiative, referendum, or recall in Texas because it's just anarchy if the citizens get to decide issues

It’s extremely backwards and weird because Texas has always been about the individual or it’s all on you. No government help. Don’t ask anyone to support you or feel bad for you.  I have mine, fuck you.

from a political perspective, Texas tries to crush the individual by voter suppression, no initiatives/ referendums, extreme gerrymandering, and every decision is made by the state legislature which is definitely not made up of our best and brightest ( far far from it).

They have their 7-9 million voting republican base and they want you to feel discouraged to vote, come in and shut up,accept republican rule for life.

There is a ghost town in the Texas Panhandle named Glenrio, Texas. It's on the old Route 66, right where Texas and New Mexico meet. If you look at this photo, Texas ends and New Mexico begins where the pavement changes color.  It's pretty desolate there. But that white building, the only structure? That's the Glenrio smoeke shop in New Mexico. You can legally buy all the marijuana, gummies etc ... that you want right there, within about 150 yards of Texas. Texas is so dumb.

    GlenRio.jpg

Texas likes owning libtards and stoners.

from arrest to booking, a cop wastes about 3 hours of his time to get a stoner off the streets. Cops don’t mind the easy work because it saves them from actually having to deal with violent and dangerous criminals while also making it look like they’re “ doing their job”.

Our state is run by extremely backwards and stupid ass people.

Because Republicans are always viewed as better on the economy. Interest rates, inflation, cost of everything being higher all play into Trump's tiny hands. Jobs reports and Wall Street do nothing for Main Street when the former are a big issue. It's Jimmy Carter all over again.

    I’ve never understood this.

Looking at the only Republican presidents in my lifetime Trump and GWB. Their policies didn’t benefit anyone unless they satisfied the following criteria.

    1) top 10% of this country financially ( or better)

    2) owned a business

    3) male gender ( republicans only acknowledge the existence of 2 of these)

    4) white

I’m not sure, but if every single one of these guys were registered to vote would it be 10-15 million?  Trump got how many votes last time?

The GOP does a masterful job at convincing folks to vote against their own self interests by distracting them with culture war shit like abortion or “libs will kill you if I lose” propaganda.

I'm from Alabama, but have lived in Georgia much of my life.  Long story short, born in Birmingham, but spent almost all my youth in Atlanta.  I was a legacy at Alabama and went for school, then immediately back to Atlanta.  Basically, of my 44 years, about 7 were in Alabama, the rest here.

I do not know Kemp's mind, and I have not ever met him.  I do however, know several people in his orbit in the real estate world (including one that is a good friend of his and was a fraternity brother at UGA).  Like many Republicans, this guy just assumes that everyone around him is also a Republican and he is a braggart so he boasts of his conversations because A.  He think's he's cool (he's not) B.  He thinks it makes him sound plugged in (he isn't).  To answer your question, I know him and several people around him were pushing for him to swoop in late for POTUS once the early primary clowns were out and it started to appear that Trump was finished.  I did find this plausible, and if there had been intent, I think the court delays stopped that.

The timing on the Senate is interesting given Ossoff's term being due next, which coincides with the next Presidential.  He can run for one or the other, what's his ambition level?  He may well be the standard bearer for the anti Trump Republicans and an example of success against their stupidity.  Regrettably, I don't think he'll just fade away.  If I had to put money on it, I'd say Senate, but I wouldn't rule out a POTUS run.

I could be wrong, but isn’t Ossoff’s seat up in 2026 and isn’t that when Kemp is term limited?   Ossoff is probably easier for republicans to beat in Georgia than Warnock would be.  Although, I doubt republicans ever make the mistake of debating Ossoff again.

I'm not sure Stacey is gonna run it back.  Keisha Bottoms (former Atlanta Mayor) and Congresswoman Lucy McBath, are two of the names I've heard floated.  McBath is interesting because she represents parts of suburban Atlanta and that could translate well (she changed suburban districts due to gerrymandering).  The downside is that McBath means we would lose a good Democratic Congresswoman for an uphill battle (Dems would retain the seat).  There are other people I've heard mentioned, but nothing that indicates to me it's anything but chatter.

Make no mistake though, Duncan is a right wing lunatic, but a calculating one.  I do have to give him credit, he has been by all accounts forthcoming and publicly honest about the crimes committed by Trump and Co regarding the rico case.  However, he is certainly campaigning on this and it's already playing well and will continue to do so in suburban Atlanta.

are you from Georgia or just really tuned into Georgia politics?

I have a question for you,  does Kemp plan on running for senate?  I hope not.

I was hoping we would use the abortion ballot amendment, which the campaign has said they have more than enough signatures to get on the ballot this year, to fix this problem in Arizona.

Let it juice turn out in the election.

Did she really say/post that?  In this timeline, I have to genuinely ask.

I guess since she stole the makeup off McCain's corpse to wear on the campaign trail and it congealed with her face after all this time...she is done with Sen. McCain and his base?

    It’s not real ( recently).

But during her governor race while she was running in probably the most purple state in the country at the time,  before starting a rally, she said that all McCain voters or supporters of him need to get the hell out of here.

The GOP senate candidates this year are so bad. Not a top tier candidate amongst them.   Last cycle they had a few decent people like Laxalt, but nobody redeeming or any good here.

In Texas all Reps have to do is mention guns, gays and the border to get votes.  Nothing else matters.

Yeah…. Remember when the people that the Texas GOP put in charge of the electric grid almost crashed the damn thing and forced us all into rolling black outs and other people actually lost access to power.  Hundreds of people died and still everyone voted R in the next election like nothing happened?

Texas GOP can do anything they want and still win because it’s all about “owning the libs” and muh guns, muh bibles, and owning the gays.

How come we never see any Texas politicians retire for health reasons?  If only we could be so lucky.

Is Florida in play now with abortion literally on the November ballot and needing 60% to pass??

They will pay lip service to it.  “ oh yeah….. I think we went a little overboard this time”, but when they’re actually in the voting booth all that will be going thru their feeble minds is “ but muh hannity, my guns, my bibles,  Fox News” then they vote R because they gotta own the libtards!

    now do Texas !!!

Nothing will happen until we get rid of our crippled son of a bitch governor,  crooked as hell and nasty attorney general, and extreme religious freak lieutenant governor whose obsessed with owning the LGBTQ community and turning back the clock to 1950.

It’s a worst case scenario for Texas because these losers have no prospects to rise up to higher or a national office, there’s no term limits and unfortunately they have no signs of bad or deteriorating health.

we could be stuck in the dark ages for a long time with these fucktards.

I know a lot of people keep saying the Trumpkins are keeping their public support quiet, but they sure as hell weren't during 2016 and 2020.  They are the cross-fitters of the political world, and just like cross-fitters have to tell everybody they are into Crossfit, the Trumpkins wouldn't shut the fuck up about supporting Trump in 2016 and 2020, so I don't know why all of the sudden they would go quiet about it. I'm also not seeing MAGA hats like I used to.

While I'm sure I missed some signs of bigly Trump support between Austin and Conroe, it was still weird to see a big-ass Trump 2024 flag and I would have noticed Trump flags/signs had I seen them before Conroe.  In years past, I saw a lot more on that drive.  Shit, I wasn't even seeing big-ass Trump 2020 signs/flags.

    Granted, it’s still early.

however,  I don’t recall seeing as much TRUMP merchandise as the first 2 election cycles which of course is a very good thing. About 2 weeks before the election in 2016,  it seems like the bed of every single pick up truck where I live had a huge trump flag in it. My family would even speculate that the trump campaign was paying this one guy to drive around with a huge trump flag because we kept seeing him and his dumbass truck in traffic all the time.

I have seen a few, but most of them appear to be old.  I wish I had the balls to steal them, but I usually have shit to do when I’m out and about.

Mississippi Senate, with a veto proof majority, has passed their own version of Medicaid expansion, after the MS House did the same with their own bill. Senate version is much less expansive and has a work requirement. Now comes the sausage making.
