But when millennials do start voting, they might be influenced and decide to vote for their financial/selfish interests and not vote for progressives anymore. This is the old argument of "if you are republican and young you have no heart, if you are democrat and old you have no money".

The opposite argument seems to be what people are banking on, that the root of the millennial political and values identity will be firm and solid and they will vote on philosophy (one formed when they were young), not pragmatics.

It’s a very small sample size, but I’m 31 ( a millennial) who never misses a chance to vote. Most of the people in my circle of friends hate republicans. I can’t believe republicans get away with so much shit. I’d never support those crooked assholes. They think gerrymandering and 85 year old billionaires spending obscene amounts of money to get them re-elected is ok (the democrats as a whole are always outspent in every election), but they complain about the media having a perceived “liberal bias” and they get mad at social media companies for “shadow banning” conservatives. You can’t complain about the last 2 if you don’t complain about the first 2. Hypocritical asshats.

I can’t wait til all this shit is over and done with in 4 weeks.

I just want trump to know how Obama felt after the 2010 election. He ridiculed obama repeatedly for not being able to get anything through congress with Republican majorities in both chambers and said he could do a much better job at it. Let’s see the “art of the deal” in action.

id like to see him get the opportunity to prove it.

Hate to be morbid but roughly 2.6M people die every year in the US.  Assuming that Trump's and the GOP's voters trend older, that would easily be 3M fewer Republican voters than there were 2 years ago.

Repubs are so lucky millenials don’t vote or they’d struggle to win in a lot more places.

Educated people are going to vote democrat in droves this year and trump has alienated educated suburban women who used to be solidly republican.

just for some context/explanation - Swift is 28 years old and has been one of the biggest pop stars in the world for 12 years.  She crossed over from country to pop, she's fairly universally loved and looked up to in a way that isn't typical of pop stars, and widely respected by musicians and performers across the board.  She sets trends, she's spotless, she's a role model, and she's a songwriter as well as a singer.  If there's such a thing as "America's Sweetheart" it is her.

Not like I'm the biggest Taylor Swift fan in the universe - the closest thing to a Taylor Swift album I've ever bought was Ryan Adams' cover of 1989.  But her speaking out politically after never having done so is a much bigger story/deal than anything Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, whoever could do.  Really Kanye is the best parallel, but it's more bizarro than opposite.

Maybe she came out politically because she doesn’t need the money anymore. She’s obviously made money hand over fist. She had to have known there would be some kind of backlash and some boycotts.

on the plus side, the people showing up to her concerts now will generally be more classy and intelligent in the future. She might lose a few white trash fans tho.

Just catching up on this thread. Were there people who thought that people like Taylor Swift and Iggy Izeala and Justin Beiber AREN'T democrats? People supporting these musical acts and then freaking out when finding out that they are liberal is weird.

Haven’t you heard?  Conservatives are boycotting things like Nike, Keurig, ESPN, the NFL, Nestle, Starbucks, Target for having the balls to make a stand against lord and savior president Trump. Adding a few musicians to the long list won’t hurt.

they truly are a bitter, nasty, and angry bunch.

  8. Bad news for Dems.

Prediction markets look like SHIT right now.

Democrats were at 68% chance to take the house at the start of the week. Right now it’s at 63%.

republicans chances to keep the senate were 66.2%. Right now it’s at  77.3%.

I’m guessing a lot of it is just noise from the Kavanaugh nonsense and will come back up a bit when we get some more polls this week, but it’s definitely not a good sign.

I don’t think we’ve ever seen a massive shift in politics about a month before the election where it totally changes the trajectory on everything. I still would guess the Dems are in good shape in the house and Governor races. I’d really like to see Trump have some accountability or a “check” on him and I can’t fathom why most Americans wouldn’t be thinking the same thing.

This could be a blip, but it might not be. Polling this week will be a huge indicator. Cross your fingers.

Yeah … What ever gets you through the night pal. I know that I was able to follow both the glorious Longhorn win and still have enough time to check the confirmation.

Get ready..the wins will keep coming.

You’re delusional if you think a Supreme Court hearing is going to create a big red wave out of thin air in less than a month.

There’s too much time left on the clock for this to have any serious impact on the midterms.

Remember when people were saying how much the “Schumer Shutdown” would be a factor in the midterms?  Yeah, that was laughable.

    this is kinda like that.

I’m sure both sides will find some other grievance to rally around in the next 30 days.

    There are what?

10-15 different news cycles in a week. By early November, the Kavanaugh shit won’t be on most people’s minds.

I just cant imagine a Supreme Court justice totally reversing a blue wave that has been steadily building since trump took office in early 2017. The Dems are still going to have a pretty good election this year.

  11. 8 minutes ago, Crusher said:

Yes...As it should have been from the beginning.

The Dems just didn't lose this confirmation battle. I think they lost the mid-terms as well. Talk about over playing your hand. Prime example.

Dems still take house, but lose ground in senate for sure. Especially in Missouri and Indiana.

  12. Sorry this might be a dumb question, but are they registering people to vote during those Beto rallies on college campuses?

It would probably help. I bet a lot of those kids aren’t registered. A good rule of thumb for democrats is “the higher the turnout, the better.”

    House - 25-40 seat pickup

    Governorship - 10-12 seat pickup

Senate - just hold the fucking line, pick up 2 seats out West and only drop 1 of your own (ND) and maybe you get a surprise (TN)

Is that a prediction or just what you want to see happen?

  14. I wish the democrats could get something this year. It has pretty much sucked since 2012.

id be ecstatic if they could just take the house. The senate is probably not going to happen. Need to win some governor races so that we could undue some shity gerrymanders in certain states. We should be sick of losing right?!?!

  15. https://www.politico.com/story/2018/10/04/house-democrats-1-million-869472

60 democrat house candidates raised over $1 million during the 3rd quarter.

by comparison, in 2016 during the 3rd quarter only 21 house candidates from both parties raised over $1 million.

The repubs are delusional if they think they can keep the house. The democrats have VERY high energy. I think this cake is already baked.

we got our asses kicked in 2010 and 2014 because of low enthusiasm and no money. Both of those problems have been rectified in a big way. As long as we get the house, we can stop trumps shitty agenda and yes the vast majority of Americans think his agenda is terrible. Trump has no creative ideas or innovative thoughts, he just wants to undue what Obama did.

prepare thy anus, it could happen.

I see the Kavanaugh hearing only effecting the senate.

The dynamics in the house ( democrats way outraising GOP) and the unusually high democrat vote totals in the primaries this year are not going to be reversed by a likely Supreme Court justice who likes beer. Lots of experts have been saying that the democrats have had a great shot of taking the house for months now.

govenor races are usually just statewide politics. I still expect the democrats to do well on that front. The Dems have 17 governorships now and should have at least 23 after election night.

the senate is where Kavanaugh could have an effect. The close races are being fought in primarily republican states. Unfortunately, Democrat incumbents with razor thin leads like mccaskill, Donnelly, and nelson could lose their seats because of it.

if I’m wrong and we see a red wave because of a Supreme Court hearing, then this country is more messed up then any of us ever thought.
