Gillum is getting some bad press too.
The Detrumpis racist comment, Neo nazis supporting him from Idaho, and him being seen as a trump puppet is arguably worse tho.

trump blaming the democrats for the volatility in the stock market. This guy is such a dumb fuck. You cant have it both ways. When he took office, he immediately extended his hand and took ALL credit for soaring stocks, and now he’s trying to blame the democrats less then a year after he pretty much publicly said “the economy is mine now, I own it”.
what a manchild. No accountability. This guy is a total embarrassment.

V good chance Democrats sweep the entire Midwest governor races and their associated Senate races:
Whitmer (MI) - Stabenow (inc)
Cordray (OH)
Wolf (PA) - Casey Jr. (inc)
Evers (WI) - Baldwin (inc)
Hubbell (IA)
Walz (MN) - Smith (inc) and Klobuchar (inc)
I agree with you on everything except Ohio. I think Ohio has a ton of split ticket voters this year who support the democratic senator and vote Dewine for governor.
Everything else is looking good up there tho. I really want to see Scott “pond scum” Walker lose. Getting Ohio would be huge because it’s a very important state in presidential races. Getting Iowa would be fun because if chuck grassley croaks, we could appoint a democratic senator in his place.

Here's my man Ryan breaking down the trend changes in Georgia right now, which I'm assuming we're seeing everywhere. Still holding (and INCREASING) the percentage of non-2014 voters (it's now at 33.6%, it was around 30% last week).
Right now, with the last week of (generally the heaviest) EV we're at,
18-29: 7.5%
30-39: 8.9%
40-49: 14.0%
50-64: 32.4%
65+: 34.7%
Unk: 2.4%
After yesterday, we're sitting at almost 400k more votes cast than in all of 2014's EV. If the 33% non-2014 voter margin continues to hold after election day that will equate to an increase from about 2.6 million votes in 2014 to 3.9 million votes in 2018.
Sorry to keep spamming this thread with Georgia numbers since only a couple of us live here, but it's awesome to at least see younger people more engaged this mid-term. I assume we will smash the modern record for turnout across the country.
I enjoy it. I think both the Georgia and Florida Governor races are fascinating. I’m really hoping we win at least one. Please keep updating.

This part is just wrong. Cali's economy is based on financial bubbles, inflation and the resulting speculation in real estate now. NY's is based on politically-enforced control over our financial system. There is a reason that Texas alone exports more than CA and NY COMBINED.
CA and NY produce a lot of paper and vapor. Foreign countries are not compelled to buy those because they lie outside the US political system. Texas produces real wealth, which other countries wish to purchase.. Top level, Cali has 9.9% of manufactured exports YTD. That is less than their share of the population. Same for non-manufactured at 9.8% of the US total. Texas OTOH exports 16.5% of all US manufactured goods - nearly double our share of the population. Texas exports well over a quarter of all non-manufactured goods, which is more like triple what our population would indicate.
https://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/Press-Release/2018pr/08/exh2s.pdf
Even in areas that CA prides itself on, like electronics and communications equipment, Texas produces and exports more than they do. California looks rich but that per capita GDP advantage is largely illusory because the cost of living is so ridiculous due to the inflationary factors I referred to earlier. Also the tax burden is so high that the avg CA household has considerably less disposable income than Texas families. To top it off, the wealth inequality in California is just about the worst in the country.
There is more wealth concentrated in California then anywhere else in the country. California alone is the 5th largest economy on earth.
california and the northeast, both places have more wealth collectively then Texas.

If the Dems don't win the house, this country is done. All that voter supression is going to come to a head. Its actually even better for the GOP in the long run if the Dems win the house here. Senate is a long shot for the Dems anyway, so its not a deal breaker.
As far as state elections go, the majority live in a handful of states. I dont give a shit who Idaho puts in its state assembly. I care who Boise gets in the House. And more than that, I care who Houston and Austin get in the house. Gerrymandering needs to end.
At this point, it may not even be worth it. We are in a trade war that damages nearly everyone in the nation because 4 middling population states wanted a trade war. The constitution is broken. The Moose in front of Iowa should have told you. Iowa, our 30th state in population. So much more important than California and Texas. And even more important than Florida, a swing state in its own right.
I guess I don’t think it’s as bleak as you do.
If the democrats win the house, they do get some goodies. They will be able to investigate trump using the power of subpoena to the fullest extent. They will be able to preserve Obamacare for 2 more years ( repubs are obsessed with killing it even tho they don’t have a real healthcare plan of their own). Most democrats will actually be able to turn on the news for the next 2 years and not get pissed off.
last I checked, Michigan is heavily gerrymandered like 9-4 repubs favor. The Dems will get rid of that crappy map after this election. Dems are strong in Michigan this year. Ohio will supposedly draw a more fair map in 2020. I still think the Dems are dealing with a nationwide map that is heavily slanted in the GOP’s favor. If they can get a house map that’s more equal, they would be able to compete in the house races more often. We could still go from 16 governors to 23 or 24 governorships. It’s possible.
the senate is the only area that looks really bad right now, but I know everything can change in a hurry.
-
Is Nevada still going well for the Dems? Need the Harry Reid turnout machine to get a win.
it seems good news on the senate map has been scarce for Dems in the last month.

I told my friends at work today to get ready for some excuse destroying reality. We are no longer going to be able to excuse the behavior of voters in this election as 'being foolish', 'hoping Trump would change', "poor candidate in Hillary", etc.
If we go deeper Red, or stay just as Red, then we are what we are, a shit country run by shit politicians supported by deplorable, shitty voters. And that in fact may happen. The Swams and Epis of the world may prevail, all while others buy donuts and shake their head muttering "tsk, tsk", while doing NOTHING. And if that is true, then at least we will know what America has become. Maybe what it never was. Maybe we are closer to the 1920s KKK marching in numbers down Pennsylvania Avenue than we are the Obama Inauguration crowds.
But we will know, and there will not be any doubt about who we are a country. Not now, after last week and this week. If you vote GOP now, then you support Trump. And if you support Trump - now - then you own it. We own it. America owns it.
We'll see.
I hate to say it, but I think you’re right. If the democrats don’t have a good election night, then it makes you start to think “when are these guys ever going to win?”.
i still believe that James comey changed the trajectory of everything when he opened up his criminal investigation against Clinton less than one week before the election. Tons of people either didn’t vote or they voted for trump. Trump won Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania by a combined 70,000 votes. The rust belt is very swingy so I think Comey changed some minds.
the GOP have had the house for 8 years and th only thing they’ve done that is noteworthy is pass deeply unpopular tax cuts that they can’t even campaign on. The GOP is lying right into the face of voters about their willingness to protect pre-existing conditions. The GOP had their shot to repeal Obamacare and they shat the bed.
if the GOP wins this cycle, the democrats need to change everything up in the party from top to bottom. The democrats need this election badly. The party is almost non existent in state government. The gop has 33 out of 50 governorships. They control most state houses and legislatures across the country. If the democrats miss this “gimme” and don’t make some gains, then we very well could become a one party country of mouth breathing degenerates.

Is there a reason she's underperformed? Not as familiar with Utah politics.
I don’t know much about it as well, but I’d say she’s underperformed because she’s black ( this is Utah people), she’s not Mormon ( I think?), and this district has utah’s Major city ( SLC).
The reason this race is close is because her opponent is white, Mormon, and the mayor of SLC.
Race matters a lot in red states. Hate to say.

Surprise! Mia Love is down 6 points in Utah.
I hope that’s true.
for some reason, I assumed that mitt Romney would carry her over the line ( I hate that guy).
things to consider:
this is Utah.
mia love is black
her opponent is mormon
This is the most liberal district in the state, but once again
it’s freaking Utah. I’d still be surprised if she loses.

Supposedly there’s conflicting information out of Florida.
Gillum and Nelson have been ahead in pretty much all the polls lately, but repubs are giddy about the early vote numbers so far. The only viable explanation is that the Dems must be winning independents by a big margin or the polls are way off for some reason.

Also, I feel we are still a ways away from a D winning Tarrant.
I live in tarrant. Unfortunately, it always goes red no matter what. Probably the best you could hope for is that a ton of soccer moms show up, vote for Beto, and Cruz wins here by only 5 or 10 points.

Do you guys think this huge spike in statewide turnout will bring any tangible benefits to the Dems?
fletcher vs culberson = Harris county ? Win?
Allred vs sessions = Dallas county ? Win?
jones vs Hurd= Repubs are spending there again. Competitive now?
getting even one seat in Texas would boost the Dems chances of taking the house by a bit.

the paul ryan led PAC had a $100 million war chest coming into this election cycle. If we don’t win, I hope we drain that as much as the democrats have been drained in the past. I think the Dems started at 5 million this cycle by comparison.

Virginia should be a blood bath for the GOP.
The guy at the top of the GOP ticket is a white supremacist who loved the Charlottesville riots.
everyone thinks Comstock is a goner already. Dave brat is a smarmy geek who mentions “Nancy pelosi” in every other sentence he utters. Scott Taylor had people on his staff work to get a democrat on the ballot as an Indy to split the vote, they even added dead people on to the petitions. The guy in district 5 Riggleman actually likes big foot porn.
i can’t imagine why republicans in Virginia would be motivated to vote this year with that shit show on the ballot.

Unless EV slows way down this week, which is the opposite of what typically happens, GA may get close to it's 2014 total vote cast. We're 200k+ past the 2014 EV total.
Some republican insiders are already expecting a run off. That could be good for abrams actually. I think she is hella good at getting out the vote and the blacks would be motivated to elect the first black governor in the south.

Same in Oklahoma. Edmondson (D) is a bad choice for governor for the following reasons:
1) He appears to be a replica of Nancy Pelosi (this comes from some bumfuck editorial article from bumfuck Guthrie, OK in bumfuck 2011 I believe)
2) He's a career politician, specifically like Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi.
3) He wants to expand Obamacare (anti-Obamacare is still a thing in this state)
4) He backed Hillary over Trump, yes Trump (that's verbatim from the Stitt TV ad, though it should be noted, all of these things are spoken by a cow. Literally.)
The entire message for statewide office in Oklahoma revolves around 1) Liberal 2) Pelosi 3.) Hillary
And people wonder why this state is a stand-in for Arkansas when it comes to cousin-fuckery and meth lab ingenuity.
At least they legalized medical weed.
its still illegal in Texas because of Abbott and potty Patrick.

It sucks that there’s a governor race this year in Texas.
if Abbott wasn’t on the ballot, those idiots would be getting a lot more attention ( indictment Paxton, potty Patrick)

Im willing to admit that I would’ve gone if I was in the area. Just for the lulz.
I already voted. Pretty much straight ticket democrat except for the governor race I voted Abbott because Lupe can’t put a sentence together. I’m a centrist dem who thinks the tea party is nuts, but I would’ve been laughing my ass off at the latest breitbart conspiracy theories.
