A 68-year-old oil billionaire, Dunn seeks to transform Texas into something resembling a theocracy

68 years old.  Looks like I have another death to root for ASAP. We’ve been lucky enough to rid ourselves with trash like rush Limbaugh, Sheldon adelson, and Antonin Scalia in the last 10 years or so.

still eagerly awaiting the passing of Dan Patrick, Mitch McConnell, and now this guy.

    • 4 point shift left for Dem Brandon William's district (D+1 to around D+5)
    • Some tweaks that would make Pat Ryan's district bluer and Mark Molinaro's district redder (Ryan is in a D+1 that would get bluer and Molinaro's EVEN district would get redder)

Unfortunately, it appears the commission does not want to aggressively change the maps to avoid legal challenges (no Hochulmander).  But the legislature can still veto the maps.

Legislature needs to veto. Everyone there is so afraid of a hochulmander……. Fine.  They should still be able to fix the map where it’s 20-6 or 19-7 in favor of the dems. Need to gain a few to offset what happened in NC.

Pubs are attempting a last ditch effort at impeaching Mayorkas this evening, in my mind more or less conceding that it will get more difficult after tonight.  Even if impeached by the House, it will go nowhere in the Senate.  They are counting on absences in order to do this due to the weather, a generally speaking pathetic attempt to impress their idiot base with, "See we are doing something!".  Johnson is such a feckless twat with the political savviness of a pet rock.  Hopefully, this somehow is another embarrassing failure for them, but even I can't imagine them being this stupid without having it locked in.

Man I hope one of their members suddenly gets extremely sick or hurt to where they can’t walk or there’s some kind of transportation issue that cancels flights or ices roads. Anything to make them hold off the vote until they just give up.

Also we probably have to win the next Supreme Court race / hold on to the Supreme Court indefinitely in Wisconsin because I wouldn’t put it past them to reverse it first chance they get.

wisconsin republicans are the meanest, nastiest, and shadiest republicans out there. I remember when they tried to help bumbling idiot kanye west get on the ballot in their state when everyone with a brain knows that guy has no business being in politics at all.

I just looked at the recent state polls of Wisc Penn Mich Georgia and I am not encouraged at all. Inflation/cost of living is a huge Biden problem where most voters either dont care or dont want to understand inflation was due to COVID stimulus, war and other supply chain issues. As a country, we absolutely deserve everything we get if Trump is elected again.

My only hope are the polls this cycle arent accounting for Swifties and young pro-choice women much like the 2016 cycle didnt account for hatred, racism and fear from a significantly larger percentage of white people than previously thought.

Hoping the 18-30 year old crowd votes in greater numbers than ever before is a record Ive listened to many times and we all know how that turns out.

    "Heil Trump" I guess.

As a white male, Ill put up the good fight in 2028 when only our votes are counted.

Polls don’t mean Jack this far out anyway.

Yeah, the good ol' media bias to the left will be in full force, no doubt about it.  The polling shows Suozzi ahead by 4 points.  Biden carried the district with 8 points in 2020, but there is some oddity to this district.  It would be great if Suozzi can win by that 8 point margin, as local races seem to be more competitive than national ones.

Fingers crossed.  Exceeding that 4 point margin would be a great sign.

I want to win the seat just for any sliver of momentum it might bring and to make it harder for repubs to impeach Mayorkas. I’m not a big fan of Mayorkas or anything. I just like seeing the repubs fail and look incompetent.

Sad but slightly enjoyable watching Sen Lankford yesterday realize that the GOP is not about progress but only getting Trump in office. Didn’t he get the  memo because the rest of the GOP is aware of that.

The sad part is while I don’t care for this guys politics, he did seem to give a honest attempt at bipartisanship for a partisan issue, and the right is going to kick him to the curb for that sin.

He’s a marijuana hater so fuck him.

True, but Cubans don't have large families in Florida.  We forget that Florida voted Blue just as recently as 2008 & 2012.  And even 2016 was within just 1%.  I don't know that Taylor can make that big a difference but this new notion is just this forgone conclusion is weird to me.  Yes DeSantis have a markedly puzzling victory margin of note in 2022 and 2020 federal elections weren't competitive.  But it's because old people vote and Florida prides itself now on being even more stupid than ever.  I wouldn't count on it in 2024 for Biden, but I think it swings back to being uber-competitive  after that.  What neither party understands is the whole key to Florida in federal elections (Senate & POTUS in particular) is the Tampa/Clearwater/Saint Pete metroplex.  Every single Floridian political jockey I know fights tooth and nail for that area but the state party and national party just ignore it for some reason.  Every other spot is pretty much locked in their position (Jacksonville, Panhandle, Miami-FTL-Palm Beach, Fort Myers-Naples, Orlando-CenFla, et. al.).  Anyway, here's to hoping the DNC doesn't piss too much away in 2024 and focuses on other states 'cause I don't think it's that competitive right now but it will be again soon as it was for decades prior.  We just forget our history.

Wish I could agree with this, but look at miami dade / broward county and that part of Florida in 2016 compared to now. They might have actually flipped it red. It’s sucks, but I think we need to focus more on making Arizona, georgia, and Wisconsin as blue as we can.

Unless you’ve actually engaged a Trump cultist in an attempt to reason with them, you have no idea just how beyond redemption most of them are. It is one of the most befuddling experiences in my life.

Giant?  Have you not been paying attention?  He's a Munchkin Coward.  A 'Munchward', if you will.

It really is remarkable how much tailwind he had and how fantastically flamed out.  I'd prefer a Biden 2nd over a Haley 1st, but you gotta give her some credit.  She's got some fight in her.  She's the literal embodiment of every fucking person who Trump appoints/endorses who actually executes on her job, realizes what a fuckstick he is, and then leaves...only to have him throw her under the bus despite his moronic worshippers think, "Oh, he only surrounds himself with the best people!"  Well, here she is.  An actual intelligent person he once appointed to a very important position.  And now she's calling him out on his shit, and he can't fucking handle it.  Okay Donald, if she's so crappy, why'd you appoint her in the first place Commander Dipshit?  It can't go both ways like your wife does.  Nikki is doing the yeoman's work here.  What Biden is above doing because he's actually real shit to do.

My biggest worry, and it's a legit one, is that Nikki will be threatened behind the scenes to drop out after Super Tuesday, far earlier than she should...which will derail her efforts to truly bash Trump and his followers before the convention.  But I wouldn't blame her, they are going to come for her kids if she's not careful.  There's a 50/50 chance she and her family have to live with a security detail for the rest of their lives.  Which sucks, but is the political reality of challenging a cult.  Fucking hot damn though, she's mixing it up and I for one respect her for it.

It already feels like the primary is over.  If she can last until Super Tuesday and actually force trump to play ball in a bunch of those states and focus on her until then,  we might’ve got more than we expected coming into this thing.

Do y'all consider NC to be fool's gold for Democrats, at least in 2024?

I had NC, PA, MI, WI, GA, AZ, and NV as the 7 states that matter. @Dnaguy made a list in the Trump thread and excluded NC. Its 2020 margin was smaller than MI and NV, about the same as PA. Figured this is a better thread for discussion.

Obama did really well there in hindsight. Outright winning NC against McCain and coming really close against Romney. Cal Cunningham was going to win there and really help the dems in the senate, but he just couldn’t keep his pants on.

It sucks that Roy Cooper has no power there as governor. Maybe they can convince him to run for senate in NC?  Although some prior dem governors haven’t had the success they hoped when they ran for senate afterwards like Bredesen and Bullock so it’s no guarantee.

i’m always hopeful or optimistic when I look at the voter numbers in NC before the election, but on Election Day it’s always a loss for team blue it seems like.

florida and North Carolina really know how to disappoint or elude the democrats.
