I will say this, I hope she does well in New Hampshire because the longer they have multiple candidates in the race, the longer it splits the donor money.  I read that they collectively spent $124 million in Iowa, that's war chest money down the drain infighting.  With a good enough performance in New Hampshire, that keeps her in at least until Super Tuesday.  If her, Ron, and he who shall not be named wind up in a dead heat in New Hampshire, all the better.

Totally agree.  I’m starting to worry that this could end before Super Tuesday which would really suck. Need to at least keep Trump off Biden until March.

On a scale of low numbers don’t matter because virtual incumbency to low numbers means no enthusiasm, I’ve talked myself into the latter.  These candidates poured record amounts into this and clearly told their supporters they expect them to come out.  Nothing on the ground was telling people to rest because it is foregone conclusion.  This people were inundated with ads pleading them to come out.  I think it matters.

I’m hoping NH turnout is significantly lower than 2016 as well.  Then we’re definitely onto something.

  3. This is what some repubs are saying now that it looks like Trump will get the nomination.

    Quote

the oldest voters from 2020 have died especially from COVID

now, you will have a vast cohort of first time voters who were 10 years old when Trump took office. anyone think those are going to vote Trump by a majority!?!

add in Biden already has the largest war chest of money ever raised, and trump will not be getting mass amounts of big donor cash and money from DeSantis supporters.

GOP will lose the House and likely not gain the Senate as well with Trump at the top of the ticket. but at least they have good parties at Mar A Lago!

Georgia is still facing another legal challenge, but this won't matter in terms of 2024.  I still think there is a very good chance the court approved map is overturned on appeal, but in all likelihood won't impact this year.  It's still a screw job.

Good thing Georgia is trending Blue. I’m hoping repubs can’t win there anymore by 2028

    Interesting development in Louisiana

    And a reply

Cajuns knew they were going to lose like Alabama did and are just biting the bullet. Fine with me. Of all the court cases, I was most optimistic about Alabama and Louisiana. Their maps were both extremely obvious racist screw jobs.

Florida ended up being a loss because democrats have done so poorly in the state since Obama left. Repubs controlled literally all levers of power. Georgia was able to simply tweak their map without giving up any seats. I don’t think we will see anything come out of the remaining South Carolina / Texas lawsuits.

I’m amazed that our country as a whole still gives a shit about Iowa. And I’m not just talking about last night’s caucuses.

It probably helped that it’s below freezing nearly all over the country and the caucus was on a Monday night. Lots of folks probably had nothing to do but try to  stay warm and watch the shit show.

Weather or no weather, noncompetitive primaries/caucuses always have low turnout. Honestly, it can just as reasonably be framed as an accomplishment to get almost as many voters out as you did in 2016 in a negative 12 billion degree snowstorm to vote in a race that's already decided. I really would not spike the football over primary turnout.

I hope bama is right. Hopefully a big chunk of his base died due to old age or covid. Would make elections easier to win.

  8. Totally random story, but I don’t care.  I was real curious about how Florida would vote in 2018. I really wanted to see the dems get a major governor seat in the south. Obviously it didn’t work out very good.

i remember watching this news report where they had a mixture of Florida voters and the guy most loyal / Republican to Trump was this 60 year old white dude who said everyone needs to “ get out of the way” and “ let trump fix everything”.  Total delusional trumper.

The weather may in the long term prove beneficial to us.  If there is a record low turn out, everyone will just chalk it up to the weather.  What they won't consider is that there was a record low turn out due to weather combined with a lack of enthusiasm.

Fingers crossed anyway for such a result.

Anytime Trump is disappointed by turnout,  I crack a big ass smile.  I hope I’m smiling later this evening.

What I’ve never understood about the whole GQP strident opposition to accepting federal dollars for Medicare expansion is….why? It’s there for the taking. It will improve the health and productivity of your citizens. Is it just the steadfast unyielding position that anything that even remotely sniffs of “Obama” must be opposed?

I mean…I know that’s the answer. It’s just so. Fucking. Stupid.

Because the GOP will never turn down the opportunity to own “ or arrest” a black guy.  Even if said Black guy has been out of politics for nearly 10 years now.

I realize everyone responds differently but I usually bite off half a 25mg gummy every night and I get a tiny buzz (equivalent of one beer) and sleepy.

I've also taken oxy-whatever after a herniated disk in 2017 and 2022 and the high is about the same.

How anyone would make both illegal (or in the latter case, available by prescription) is regarded.

    Dan Patrick sucks.

All five at least have medical. It's getting tougher break new ground. Although, North Carolina and Georgia seem ripe for the pickings.

My analysis of the map and future opportunities is as follows:

Hawaii, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania are only a matter of time. All 3 states have had detailed conversations, votes, and they seem to be trying to sort the last few things out.  It’s a “when” not “ if” thing here.

North Dakota and South Dakota seems like they vote on it nearly every election cycle. If they continue to allow votes on it, it will eventually break thru and that’s 2 more red states we can add to the pile. Every 2-4 years people in these states get it on the ballot thru the ballot initiative process.

West Virginia seems to be trending to the “when not if” category.

I’m still Skeptical on Florida. Florida is both Republican as hell and crazy as fuck. They have used the Florida Supreme Court to stop it from getting on the ballot before and may do so again. Desantis is a 70 year old man in a 40 year old’s body. For some reason, he really doesn’t like this stuff. You’d think anyone under 50 wouldn’t be hostile to marijuana, but there are lots of idiots in the US population.  In addition, Florida needs 60% to pass ballot initiatives and recreational is still considered somewhat controversial so I’m not sure it could get 60% statewide in Desantis land with the GOP trying to stop it there.

Georgia and Wisconsin are considered “playing the long game”. We flipped the Supreme Court in Wisconsin, we are fixing the maps, and hopefully we can take control there and get abortion / weed legalization passed like the majority of Wisconsin residents desire.

Georgia we need to continue to have liberals move there for work. We need more black Georgians to get over the age of 18. Georgia is competitive like we were hoping Texas would be by now. The demographics in Georgia seem to be trending in the dems direction.  Take the legislature / governor in Georgia and they could pass it.

Activists have tried to get medical on the ballot in Idaho, Nebraska, and Wyoming, but they’ve had trouble with either collecting enough signatures or the Supreme Court / republicans have stepped in and killed it.

there are still lots of wins out there to be had and fight for. Like I said,  I wish Dan Patrick would croak so maybe Texas could join the fun.

You're not wrong, but the answer needs to be getting rid of gerrymandering nationwide.

Same shit is about to happen in New York.  Nearly all dems hate Elise Stefanik, but we’re going to Hochulmamder the maps where we get 4-5 seats back and make Stefanik’s district even redder.

Republican West Virginia senate president talking about legalizing marijuana relatively soon because his state is getting hammered by the opioid epidemic.

West Virginia legalizing would be huge for several reasons. WV is the reddest state in the country. Would send a message to other republican states. WV going legal would fully surround Pennsylvania with legal states and put more pressure on them to legalize. New Hampshire is an island of prohibition as well, but prohibition seems to be holding on by a thread in that state.

your possibilities for 2024 legalization appear to be :

Florida, Hawaii, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and South Dakota.

24 states fully legal. 26 to go. Just want to see this sham of a prohibition die.
