I moved to Fluid view last year (thanks for the rec) so I could remove from view the CR and DT and I only move into view when big things are happening and it has improved my mood and BP immensely. Ask my wife, I’m a much more pleasant person to be around. Are things more fucked up? Possibly. Are we more divided now because of the internet? Absofuckinglutely.

Your point about people coming here for recruiting news is valid. My point about you spending 99% of your time trying to avoid pissfights between left and right (DT and CR) could be solved by shelving everything into a single forum. I’m on lots of other forums that are similar in they exist for a single topic, but they keep anything news/politics to a single forum, and nothing bleeds. Fence the left and right in to a single playground. As it stands, you have divided the board left vs right into two separate boards.

I agree, that a lot spills out of DT. But at the same time, the folks that complain you handle the DT posters differently because they only post in DT can also be correct (and when I say you, I don’t only mean you, its all the mods). This could all be solved by merging the forums.

Contain the shit to a single forum. Nuke everything outside that forum.

I understand the suggestion, I just don't think it'll work here. Thunderdome works some places, but I think this one it would just be about the loudest and most active people and it would actually kill threads. DT threads aren't supposed to be a bunch of people arguing and huge engagement. It's supposed to be current events, news, shit that happened that isn't for lulz that people can make fun of or keep people in the know as a sort of human led aggregator vs AI slop feeder.

There's a minority of posters that want to inject themselves and their opinions everywhere, that can't happen on a board like 9.95 or football because mods and cultural rules and how many other posters there are that will self police. In DT it's a smaller number of regular users that wouldn't be able to self police, and obviously can't, when things go off the rails mods have to be a lot heavier handed than the other way higher population and trafficked boards.

Man, do you truly not get why people would be annoyed or upset by the “take it to CR!” then locking the CR thread move? To teach the people who are already keeping what you’ve deemed to be CR discussion there a lesson? What lesson, exactly? And what recruiting traffic are we running off in the CR thread?

I know you don’t think I care about this place and I’m clearly not going to convince you otherwise. But this place, all its assholes aside, has been a shockingly enduring community for a very long damned time now, full of people who care more than any of us would generally like to admit and has genuinely been capable of doing good in the world. I don’t want to see that fucked with because running the site is eating at you.

I wish I had a solution or some help to offer, but all I’ve got as a normal user who was happy to contribute my tree fiddy for the last five years is this ain’t it man. Just nuking dozens of posts that happen to rub you the wrong way is in no way conducive to maintaining a healthy online community.

The solution is to quit when shit is like this instead of being a dick and doing more. The solution is to follow the rules when moderators come in and a thread is clearly super off the rails and needs to be intervened with.

Stop acting like I'm a regular poster and things are my opinion when it comes to running the board.

You have an opinion, I have a responsibility to moderate the site. No one, not a single time in the mod team has said any discussion is off limits, just that it needed to be in the appropriate place, we don't control the message, we don't shape threads, we don't edit posts to say different things.

What ain't it is acting like this happens all the time for everything. What I am doing is saying to knock it off repeatedly and a handful of posters just can't fucking help themselves.

What ain't it is posting over and over in a thread after you have your post deleted because it was clearly way out of line, and way off topic.

What ain't it is being so toxic that you had to come in here and put out how terrible you think I run the site and that you canceled your sub.

So I read that as you threatening to memory hole more shit in a "I'll fuckin do it again" way. Apologies for misreading that.

And dude. You kidding me? It was more having a laugh at how pitch perfect the critique is and how good Lucas' vision was 50 years ago. You do know that Star Wars ('77) was modeled after the Vietnam War, right? The rebels were modeled after the VC, and America was the Empire. George Lucas himself said Star Wars is supposed to be anti-colonial

    https://screenrant.com/star-wars-george-lucas-vietnam-war-inspiration-explainer/

That's pretty explicit and direct from the creator.

Its a fucking TV show dude. This is everyone's point. It's a fucking TV show. If you wanna talk about the deeper meaning and all the politics and whatever start a CR starwars thread holy shit.

Have you ever thought that some people just watch it to see cool star wars shit?

@immamac its a thankless job, but at some point you are either going to have to combine DT and CR for your own sanity or delete the boards altogether. Our current cultural climate in this country means everything is an tangled mess.

    Unleash the thunderdome.

This is not true. I think some of you live in a weird internet bubble and read force fed news or are getting curated nonsense that is driving you to think everything is political.

Are things super fucked up right now? Moreso than 2001? Moreso than 2008? Moreso than 2020? Moreso than 2016?

Just because some of you are more interested in politics and let it have a deep impact in your personal life doesn't mean a bunch if people who come go this site for FOOTBALL RECRUITING NEWS, and maybe a little bit of a funny take on current events or a crowd sourced news thread that goes further and more diverse than any machine learning based solution would pump to you.

That's the magic here for 90%+ of posters. Then there are 10% of posters who legitimately cannot divorce themselves from politics in any facet of anything. Stay in the fucking cloak room, no one asked you to stop posting there. People repeatedly ask, and the rules have been the same since the inception of this community that politics stays off the rest of the board.

Did you move any off of that thread?

Not since the PC when I split the thread. I believe some posts that were overtly political got the axe from Blacklab and that was accompanied by a timeout.

What you don't get is that you have such a small sliver of the picture.

You're setting a standard here that objective facts like meeting minutes that explicitly say WHY a critical warning was not delivered and reporting from the Associated Press is verboten outside of the Cloak Room?

I don't disagree with a news thread being a news thread, but I don't see how what I'm posting there is anything but news. Yeah, it's pretty much all shitty news. Don't shoot the messenger.

I never fucking deleted any god damned posts from the DT thread or gave anyone time off. YOU ARE MAKING SHIT UP. STOP

I am genuinely sorry to hear things here bleed negatively into your personal life. It’s a persistent, passionate group of habitual line-steppers you interact with who you may not otherwise. Regulating that is fraught, and possibly not worth the exorbitant profits.

It humerus be weird to be thrust into a quasi-journalist role of editing content. I’m not sure what you got into thus for but it probably wasn’t that.

I appreciate that, but my honest question is how could an avid user of this site not know that it is like that? (Not saying you specifically)

The crazy thing is some of you think I make any money off the site.

Its one thing for some lurker to say some stupid shit, its a whole different thing for someone who knows better to be doing stupid shit and just being oblivious to what it is doing to the community and the people running it.

Man, you literally locked the CR thread. Then nuked the new CR thread complaining about that. Then nuked the posts here complaining about that.

I can’t speak for others, but all I’m asking for is some consistency. You’re going to wake up tomorrow and realize how ridiculous your behavior tonight was. You’re acting like Elon in a k-hole trying to moderate Twitter per his fleeting whims.

Read your post dude and then tell me I'm the one being a bad person.

I'm literally getting better news updates from the CR thread. DT is great if you want more updates from Facebook posts and Mystic text chains. The transcripts and meeting minutes? The fact that the State of Texas had just validated their emergency planning two days prior?

It's not that they're being an idiot, it's that they're politicizing the tragedy by refusing to look at the fucking causes for hundreds of people getting killed in the most flood prone valley in America. You're setting the Overton window at the point where asking "why our government approved a plan that gave zero warning to a camp full of children" is """PoLiTiCaL""".

    For real?

Dude, just stop, seriously. You are allowed to like the CR thread better I'm happy thats what you like. The DT thread is what other people like. You don't have to like or participate in both or either.

That's the fucking point. The point is there is no rule restricting conversation. Your job isn't to fuck up the DT thread because you disagree with what it is, you have a fucking place to post and read stuff you align with or are fine reading because it's politically charged.

Get the fuck over it and stop fucking with the rest of the board.

  8. You really just don't get it and that's honestly the entire problem.

Why don't you think long and hard why your posts got deleted, why this one didn't.

I deleted a bunch of stuff after I locked the thread because it was stupid and not funny and not a real gripe and nothing was broken.

I locked the thread to prove a point of how pointless the conversation that was happening in that thread was. There was nothing of substance posted in that thread or the new thread after and miraculously after I unlocked it people started posting about what was going on instead of bitching about how I'm protecting the maga posters and everything in DT should be politics because you wanna say mean shit to people you disagree with instead of just moving on with your life and you know actually posting about the topic of the thread which is much much larger than your stupid beef with a bunch of maga morons.

A bunch of accusations thrown my way for coddling maga and treating them better etc. I cannot tell you how many times I've said being an idiot isn't against the rules.

Your gripe right now isn't a real gripe, you cancel your sub and act like you give a single fuck about this place, but all you are doing is making this about you, the entire time you are just screaming for attention, we get it you are mad, you are sad, whatever.

I'm sick and tired of this shit. Do you know how fucking disgusting it is to own a message board where anytime something major happens it not only personally affects me but it ruins my fucking day and most likely week because of people like you who I constantly have to babysit and moderate? You don't think about any of that shit, you just spew a bunch of toxic nonsense.

But sure, yeah I'm a fascist, I'm a thin skinned bitch because you have no fucking idea what I'm going through or what my situation is. You just think it's cool to talk shit on the internet to make yourself feel better.

"laws signed and proposed" is the same thing as "previous decisions made by people who are in charge". They're both public policy.

By your yardstick here, should I be banned for citing meeting minutes when the county leadership decided to not invest in sirens? That's critical context to WHY this mass casualty event was primed and filled with children to sacrifice on the altar of MUH TAXES.

One is context and factual one is opining based on some bullshit and doesn't need to be in the thread.

They can be similar and one can be framed to provide context instead of be an opinion.

It's just absolutely hilarious mental gymnastics these poor dudes put themselves through to appeal to the dumbest posters on this site.

Like how can you possibly discuss solutions to a problem that can literally only be solved by public policy without discussing politics?

That's what this thread is for, not that thread. How many mental gymnastics are you gonna do when the rule is clear?

In this day and age? Virtually nothing is news that isn't political. And you can thank trump and Republicans for that. They have fucked it up so badly over the last decade that nearly everything that happens has their fingerprints and corruption all over it. Or them making things that have nothing to do with politics political by making up lies and propaganda to blame Democrats. For everything.

This is one of those things. Their corruption and unwillingness to take the safety of their constituents into account due to gangster politics is what allowed this to happen.

It's just the way it is now.

There's stuff that is definitely blurry and worthy of news thread inclusion, then there's obvious shit that isn't.

The problem isn't the blurry stuff, it's the other stuff and people repeatedly knowing that they are taking direct partisan and straight up political talking points and injecting them into a discussion about an event.

It doesn't move the conversation forward and it doesn't inform anyone who's coming in as a lurker about information they should have about the event as a news story. The discussions about what should happen etc are all very political by definition, what has happenned and why is also political but part of the factual basis of what happened and is important context to the event.

A really easy way to figure out what isn't in the grey area is thinking about the discussion in a frame of

"am I opining on what should happen and what political things need to happen to make that happen?" That's CR.

"Do I think previous decisions made by people who are and have been in charge directly provide context into the event?" That's CR

"these were the laws and here's who signed them or proposed them and what were actions that led to the event" not CR and important context.

Its really easy to see how 2 don't belong in the news thread and how they belong in a thread like this focused on discussion.

News/major event threads should be summary commentary, new developments and general reactions. Discussions shouldn't really be the focal point of the threads that are predominantly there for active events.

There are threads in the daily Texan that are all about discussion and opining about things, but event threads and active breaking news threads don't have that focus for pretty obvious reason.

  12. I got @ by jimmyjazz over some stupid shit I'm tired of hearing about from people that post in here.

The egregious offenders of talking politics outside of CR outside of the stupid maga outbursts where people just cant help themselves and self immolate are people that post A LOT in here.

So no I am not lost.

  13. Guys shut the fuck up, this isn't hard. Stop putting partisan bullshit that isn't news and is straight up political discussion in threads that aren't in CR.

Having meeting minutes from a real meeting that happened come out showing that they declined warning systems isn't political and it's not being moved, this thread already exists. Stop bitching and acting like I'm shielding anyone from anything. It's not fucking weird or strange for someone to not want politics injected into every fucking conversation that happens. As much as all of you want to blame everything that happened on someone, there was hundreds of fuckups that led to this and any one of them could have made he situation better.

I am seriously considering shutting down the board anytime something like this happens because none of you can fucking handle it anymore, you've all become broken brained idiots who can't fucking do anything but talk shit to people in a community that's not fucking growing. You aren't on fucking twitter or Facebook there isn't a billion users. There's the same people that have posted here for decades at this point. You aren't changing anyone's fucking mind, you aren't enlightening anyone, nothing you do here fucking matters for things outside of Texas sports and recruiting where this is a very large contingent of the internet community.

Are there a bunch if thin skinned morons who are clearly maga bitching about shit that hurts their feelings? Yeah, so what fuck them.

I'm tired of babysitting all you fucks who think it's okay to go and put fully political opinions in news threads. Not everything is political and if you have that opinion you aren't being silenced this board and thread is perfect for that.

Some of you seriously don't, or can't realize that the recruiting thread updates over the same time period as this topic has 15x the views.

I want discussions outside of football and sports to take place here, but there are perfectly reasonable asks related to keeping the board clean and topical to the sections. This isn't a crazy ask, this isn't a conspiracy theory where immamac and the mods are pushing a conservative agenda. We aren't protecting anyone. Stop being such whiney thin skinned little bitches and just follow the fucking rules that have been in place for well over a decade.

  15. If some of you can't handle being able to talk about whatever you want in appropriate threads then you can stop posting here. No one is deleting shit and no one is saying you can't talk about whatever you want, this isn't the thread for it it's not a difficult concept and it's one I'm tired of reiterating.

    Me:  "The internet."

The two girls found in a tree phone call I received was from a friend who I’d been working with since about 7am. When he and I split up, he stayed there and waited for his brother (first responder). I relayed what he told me, via his brother. I asked him for confirmation, and he told me to hang tight. That’s when I posted.

The linked in the post that I copied went hand in hand with what I’d heard, yet not yet confirmed. I made the mistake of thinking that link was the confirmation needed.

Now, it’s untrue. I don’t know how a game of telephone can get that fucked up with as close as I was from the source, but it did. And I can’t apologize enough.

I’ll continue to post what I see first hand from here on out. Take it for what it’s worth. I guess I got too overwhelmed with some good news for the first time in three days.

    Hope is a dangerous thing.
