  1. Febres had microfracture surgery and only came back the last 3rd of the season.
  2. Why are people posting in this thread instead of creating a game thread?
  3. I like the purposefulness of the offense to start out.
  4. Has recruiting ever been this concentrated amongst just a few schools? I don't follow it as closely as I did in the 00s, but I don't remember a time when 3 or 4 schools routinely locked up such a high % of the top 100. Bama, Georgia, & Ohio St dominate recruiting like no other period of time before. They get 3 or 4 five star players seemingly every year. Then throw in another 15 years of SEC propaganda and lesser teams like Kentucky tend to recruit way above their historical weight which hurts schools like Michigan and Michigan St that recruit Ohio kids who dont go to Ohio St.
  5. I remember Anthony Johnson but had no clue we ever had a Charlie Williams as a WR coach. I would've lost money on that trivia question.
  6. So 2 of the 5 teams were within the top 40% of D1 basketball in terms of pace and another was essentially smack dab in the middle (358 teams in D1). All things being equal most fans prefer an aesthetically pleasing style of play, but we prefer winning over any and everything else. Beard is my archetype of a college coach in terms of his personality, urgency, organization, and even marketing acumen so I'm not going to be too critical of his preferred offensive style of play. I mean it would probably be too much to ask for him to hit 10 out of 10 on my dream coach checklist so I'll settle for 9.
  7. Weird that it's showing up blocked when I can see it free and clear. Here's the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQxp-A5uvkA
  8. I've watched that highlight a million times and have seen a screen shot of the moment before Romo flings the pass. Beasley is wide ass open over the middle for a first down on that play. But in all honesty I loved Romo for attempting plays like that and it's what made him a favorite of mine. He was just snake bitten. I imagine Cowboys fans a bit older than me feel the same way about Danny White. Here's the play here: Beasely is lined in the slot on the right side and you see he's wide open.
  9. Forget about the Dez' catch the real turning point in that game was DeMarco's fumble. Not only was it a momentum changer, but Murray was going to go 59 yards on that run and put us up 21-10 in the 3rd which would've given us a 2-score buffer for the exchange of TDs between the 2 teams over the next few drives. Could've sworn the Rodgers on one leg game was during the 2016 season playoff game with Dak at the helm?!?!?
  10. All the best WRs in the NFL right now fit the Xavier Worthy profile as opposed to the Julio Jones profile. 5'11" to 6'1" with great route running, speed, and quickness. Obviously if you find a unicorn like Julio Jones you take him, but he better be worth it in terms of his athleticism.
  11. A team with a deficiency in talent should play slower and limit possessions and vice versa if the case is the opposite. I don't know whether Beard played that way due to preference or as part of a strategy to compensate for the talent gap. Time will tell, but at Texas he'll often have way more talent than his opponents so playing a style of play that increases your chances of being upset doesn't seem like the best strategy. Regardless his defense is suffocating enough that we'll always be competitive irrespective of how slow we play or how much talent we have.
  12. I'm just glad we've finally entered the modern age of football and stopped chasing after 6'3+ WRs who cant get a sippy cup open. You would have thought our 2007 through 2009 WR core would've taught us a lesson about what works for today's passing games, but it still took us another decade plus to process those lessons.
  13. Yeah he's a kid I wondered about after Beard took the job, because he originally committed under Smart as a preferred walkon with potential to eventually get a scholi. Glad he still came. His high school highlights looked like he had good potential to turn into something worthwhile.
  14. If it we played at a quicker pace, resulting in getting more shots up, it would probably help to mitigate some of the issues with the number of capable players we have.
  15. Oh it would've eventually happened, however, given all his personal failings Herman is a good coach. If he were ever to overcome his insecurities, overall hubris, and the personality quirks that hold him back he'd be a great coach.
  16. Herman is/was an asshole, but does anyone seriously think he gets fired if the EOT stuff never happens. Just having a controversy (made up or otherwise) like that in the public space did as much to kill recruiting momentum as Herman's personality.
  17. DJ Riggenberg has a little something and I've felt Cowlishaw was a good fit for the Ticket since he started appearing with the Musers. I never listened to his show back in the day, but he seems like he has a good sense of humor and interest in things outside of the sports world. Plus he's a Texas Ex which is always good.
  18. https://www.nba.com/stats/players/touches/?sort=TIME_OF_POSS&dir=1 Luka currently leads the league in both time of possession/ gm and average seconds/touch at 9.4 minutes/gm & 6.19 sec/touch respectively. James Harden at even his most heliocentric state of play for the Rockets never averaged over 9.3 minutes of possession per game. And even his seconds/touch were below Luka's current 6.19 more often than not while with the Rockets. For comparison players like Steph Curry and Lamello Ball average 5.5 min/gm, 4.25 sec/touch and 6 min/gm, 4.18 sec/touch respectively. Even without these stats you can see the difference in how these teams play vs our Mavs. The ball constantly moves and players continuously move around stressing the defense as they do it. Maybe our style of play has more to do with our atrocious personnel rather than Luka's preferred style of play, but whatever it is this shit needs to change.
  19. Kansas, Okla St, & WVU are all pretty typical of what you'd expect from a major conference team. Few major conference teams will be in the top 50s for their Non-conf SOS. Shit, even though they're not in a major conference look at Gonzaga. They've played us, UCLA, Tech, Duke, and Bama yet have a non-conf SOS of 238.
  20. I didn't pay much attention to Tech so I don't know whether Beard typically schedules an early season tournament or a set of show case games, but the lack of those extra 3 or 4 games against the likes of a Davidson or even a California or a Texas A&M type level team would probably push our SOS up 100 spots. The reason our non-conf SOS schedule sucks so much is that not only are we not catching any teams in the 90-199 range, but pretty much every non major conference team we've played has been in the 240s or below.
  21. Typically you're not going to see a lot of major conference teams at the top of the heap of Non-Conference SOS rankings. High non-con SOS rankings are reserved for the likes of Prairie View, Jackson St, and a bunch of other HBCUs or small schools that spend the majority of their non-conference schedules getting bashed by major conference teams. A good major conference non-conf SOS is going to be in the range of 75-200. Even Rick's last 5 years at UT consisted of non-conf SOS rankings of 2011-143 2012-198 2013-204 2014-213 2015-234 *according to kenpom.
  22. This is Bead's non-conference SOS rankings at Tech 2021-283 2020-296 2019-307 2018-309 2017-351 2022 (Beard at Texas) -358 While BWG's motives are questionable it's clear that he has a point on this subject. Beard historically puts together trash ass schedules.
  23. Totally agree. I was actually surprised we didn't hear reports about his discontent prior to this.
  24. Saban changed the perception of LSU for their instate talent. They used to not even receive a second look from kids like Warrick Dunn, Ed Reed, or Marshall Faulk. Pre-Saban, Louisiana kids left the state in droves and the SEC propaganda back then was non existent. The confluence of Saban having quick success at LSU, the lack of in-state competition, and the SEC becoming a destination for high school talent has all worked towards making most Louisiana kids look towards LSU first before looking elsewhere.
