  1. This is rich! Claiming I have IRRATIONAL feelings towards Brown while simultaneously admitting you not just loathe him but the newly introduced, megaloathing of him, is next level pot/kettle shit. Irrespective of that, I just disagree with you. That's all! I don't hate you. I value your contributions to this board and your bball insight. I realize the inclination to use any disagreement one has with you as an opportunity to claim martyrdom is strong within you, but it ain't that serious. When I think of God given talent I think of innate expressions of athleticism like running and jumping, or quickness. Or even traits like size and strength. A skill that even the best have to work on obsessively, like shooting, just isn't in that category for me.
  2. What exactly was "god given" about J'Covan Brown's talent? Especially compared to Isaiah Taylor? Brown was slow and unathletic yet consistently got to the basket with guile, change of pace, and intellect. His game is the epitome of the type of game that is the fruit of hard work and countless hours spent playing. Taylor is among the fastest and most explosive PGs we've had over the past 20+ years. Just because Taylor was lowly ranked relative to Brown doesn't make him a "try hard" who overcame athletic deficiencies. Taylor's poor ranking was a product of playing for inferior, low profile AAU squads. As well as a result of moving from California to Texas late in his high school career. However he had plenty of athleticism. He was similar to Ja Morant in that once people saw him, his talent was readily apparent but it was too late in the recruiting process for a lot of schools. I forget whether it was Bob Knight or Larry Brown who alerted Barnes to Taylor late in the recruiting cycle since we had an extra scholarship, but I can't thank either one of them enough. Brown may have been a knucklehead at times but he isn't exactly a guy I'd describe as "blessed with God- given talent".
  3. Why do they have Gabe Muoneke's picture next to Albert Burditt's name? And no Lasalle Thompson or Johnny Moore?
  4. Eh, I take all of this as an early season attempt to build camaraderie. So what if Kidd allows KP a few more touches in the post to start the season. Who cares if the ball moves around a bit early in the shot clock rather than having Luka do his best James Harden impression for 20 of 24 seconds. The fact remains that the roster is meh, but we have an alltimer who makes us a threat on any given night. We need KP in a good head space so that he returns to the defensive presence he was early in his time in the metroplex. His offense, while a nice bonus if it comes, isn't the deal breaker for having a good season. It's what he does on the defensive end that will actually give us a shot at advancing in the playoffs.
  5. Yeah I think BWG was looking forward to the possibility that we'd get an offense-first coach, but in his defense BWG has hated both Beard's style and theatrics since he first showed up at Tech, so the disdain there isn't anything new. However, the hate for Beard after 6 years of the scorched earth defense of Smart is hard to swallow. As for offensive coaches available I don't know that there were really any potential candidates out there other than Beilein. Guys like Mussleman and Nate Oates had just as much potential to throw up offensive stinkers on bad shooting nights as Smart. People pretend their offenses are diametrically different than Smart's but after 30 games of watching Longhorn teams coached by them chunk up forty plus 3s a game fans would've soured on them eventually provided there wasn't consistent success. I like the fact that Beard is actively embracing the student body and I never understood why Smart didn't attempt the same. College basketball more than any other sport gains a clear advantage from a raucous crowd, so it serves a coach's interest to get the students on their side and excited about the product from the onset.
  6. Pretty much sums up Eli's 2 Super Bowl runs. He never even won a playoff game outside of those 2 seasons.
  7. Tell you what, when you don't have an X and Os advantage on the bench the lack of talent on our roster becomes starkly apparent. Especially compared to an Atlanta roster that has an over abundance of talent.
  8. I don't know about all of them. Donnie, certainly should've been gone a long time ago and Ive had my problem with Carlisle's inability to develop young talent. However, I would've liked to have kept Haralabob. Seems like if he were employed in the right manner he offered us a competitive advantage. That being said, Cuban's chaotic approach to structuring the Mavericks' org was the real culprit behind our inability to amass talent through the draft over the past 20 years.
  9. Honestly Gallup's injury will hurt him on the free agent market. He's not going to get the $12 to $15 million he probably would've gotten after an injury free season. He may be amenable to a 1 year deal to rehab his earning potential.
  10. Fucking awesome interview with Haralabob. He actually comes off as much more likeable than all the reporting intimates.
  11. I really hope we keep Cooper throughout his contract. It can't be overstated how much of a chemistry enhancer to the locker room having a WR of his talent and intellect not only not be a diva, but offer route running insight, and be a role model for how the WR room should conduct themselves.
  12. Diggs' hands are what set him apart from any CB I've seen in a long time. Lot's of DBs get their hands on balls, but they don't have the ball skills to finish the play consistently. If the ball hits Diggs hands he's controlling it for the INT 95% of the time.
  13. He graduateding a year early? I think we all forget how young he is FIFY
  14. Could've sworn the Duncanville coach was Anthony Black's stepfather for awhile now. I guess his mother and the coach aren't married but she's had a relationship with him for as long as I've heard of Anthony Black which is at least 2 years now.
  15. He made it seem like something happened to a neighbor of his.
  16. Quoting players who are (understandably) being careful about what they say about their boss who has (had) a 100 million dollar contract isn't exactly a ringing endorsement. I could pull quotes from Keyshawn Johnson and other players whose jobs are no longer under his control who might have differing opinions.
  17. The ball went forward because his empty hand hit it on the follow through.
  18. The fucking ref threw his hat down. How is that forgotten about during the replay only minutes later?
  19. Any word on Jacoby Jones? I felt our run defense and overall defensive front went to absolute shit after he went out. Brooks did most of his work off tackle where Jones is usually positioned.
  20. I went ahead and put money on it when we were on our transfer shopping spree during the spring. I think I had 15-1 odds at the time.
  21. Not sure but Texas Ex and former UT basketball player Carlton Dixon's company outfitted the entire team for their pregame suits.
  22. This and the fact that Reece threw out the "We didn't instruct them to say SEC" makes me believe that they absolutely directed the crowd to chant SEC.
  23. You aint lying. That shit took me by surprised. I fooled myself into believing our fans would have enough pride not to resort to that crap.
  24. No doubt but Ohio as a state takes high school football much more seriously than Michigan which results in a large disparity in the number of D1 players that come from each state. Typically Ohio outpaces Michigan in D1 signees at a 2:1 ratio. So while their populations are similar their football production is significantly different. A more severe example of the same phenomenon happens in the Northeast. The state of New York is much more populous than New Jersey, but New Jersey produces twice as many D1 signees for similar reasons.
