  1. Stan for Evan Stewart all you’d like, but I don’t want that motherfucker anywhere near Texas.
  2. Eleven Win Etienne sprints free! If Seven Loss Steve pulls off the conference title, I’ll retire all derogatory nicknames until he loses to a 2-4 Arkansas team without a head coach next season.
  3. I’ve watched enough of Rogers to feel comfortable saying that his standing is a mystery to me. I cannot figure out why he is well regarded. He put up numbers in Leach’s system, but that’s the only positive I’ve ever seen.
  4. In classic aggie fashion, they have hoisted themselves by their own petard. They have serious buyouts for some of the assistants. They don’t want to pay those too, so they’ve convinced themselves that the assistants weren’t the problem - just Ritz Bit. They’ve allegedly been looking for someone who would leave the defensive staff alone and most of the offensive staff too. That might be one of the key reasons that Traylor wasn’t a fit. That whole setup sounds legitimately ridiculous to me, so I am entertained to see if it is true at all. If so, wow. If not, one thing that I know is true is there are some buyouts that are going to hurt.
  5. Tech is still angling for a cut of the PUF. They’ve been plotting about it in the state legislature recently. UT wants to get as far away from Tech in every possible way since announcing for the SEC. Tech has gotten extremely petty and have tried to weasel their way into guaranteed games and series “or else” and Texas has weathered that behind the scenes and when dealing with media pressures on it. Fuck those people and that school. Sarkisian knows the expectations for this game, from on high.
  6. It's not a good counterpoint, outside of humor. The "Evan Stewart is committing to/decommitting from/going to sign with/transferring to Texas" saga has been hashed 1000 times on the recruiting board. It's tiring. Suffice it to say, the guy is a quitter, a drama queen, only out for himself, made of glass, and big time into weed. He pushed Jimbo Fisher around like he had his hand up his ass. I don't want that shitbag any closer to Texas than he is right now. Alabama is looking to overpay in the portal this cycle, apparently, and Stewart is a target. I'm hoping he eats up a chunk of their budget and then pulls his bullshit there and attempts to burn the whole program down because he's not getting his way. Outside of QB, WR is the most talent rich position in the portal every single year. I doubt that ever changes because of the prima donna/high demand nature of the position. Texas will be one of the magnets for the best WRs out there. Let Stewart go take a heaving dump on someone else's future.
  7. Alabama is going to overpay for Stewart and multiple other players in the portal, specifically if they're not in the playoff this year. I think Saban is gearing up for one last big run. If they beat Georgia and get into the playoffs, who knows?
  8. 1) What is nice about Fisch's NFL resume? He never stayed anywhere for long and it's hard to give him a ton of credit as an offensive mind given the people with whom he was also on staff. 2) I understand the general disdain for Bill O'Brien that people carry on this board, but the guy has actually accomplished some things. He did well with longevity in NE. He salvaged Penn State from Tartarus and made them credible. He went to the playoffs multiple times as HC of the Texans. Fisch has a hell of a long way to go before he's even close to that. I was thinking Angry Blumpkin.
  9. Well, the lack of trust is merited, given that they did exactly what you're talking about to TCU in 2014. That considered, while Michigan and OSU are 2 of the top 5 or 6 brands in CFB, UW and Oregon certainly aren't TCU in terms of brand value. If Michigan is the 1 loss non-conference winner, I don't really see how there'd be any support for them getting a nod over a conference winner with 1 loss. Ohio State over UW or Oregon, maybe. I don't see 12-1 Texas or 12-1 Alabama getting screwed by a one loss non-title winner, given that they're top 5-6 brands too.
  10. Unless all hell breaks loose in the next 2 weeks, it seems highly unlikely that a 1-loss team that did not win their conference will really even be considered. There will likely be at least 4 conference champs with 1 or 0 losses. Michigan won't get any benefits of the doubt and Ohio State wouldn't have much of an argument after letting fucking Iowa win it. We haven't had a big upset weekend all year, so maybe the next two weeks will give us mayhem. It would be the chalkiest CFB season in history if we don't get any.
  11. Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Die Hard 2 is absolutely not a Christmas movie but set during Christmas time. It may be one of the most absurd movies ever put to film. I watch both each year. Lethal Weapon was a great addition.
  12. I was watching the second episode the other night and my 8 year old sat down next to me and watched the whole thing. He had been in the kitchen getting a snack or something and a monster scene immediately had him interested. I haven't seen anything in this show that is a problem. I rewatched it just to make sure as well. You should be good to go, although I am guessing seeing Skull Island will be helpful for later episodes.
  13. It's a bizarre persecution phenomenon to witness with CU fans during this period. The idea that only negative stuff has been said about Deion Sanders is laughable on every level. 1) None of the other coaches have been lauded as saviors and had numerous hagiographic stories written and aired on them in the same vicinity as Sanders. He's got to be more than 10x past the other guys combined on that front. 2) Hugh Freeze is getting run over, backed up over, and then run over again repeatedly right now, and in ways that Sanders has not. Dillingham became a meme earlier in the season with his 1000 yard staring speech about playing to win. Fickell has been mocked multiple times this season, not the least of which for the Wisconsin embarrassment against Indiana. 3) Not listing Northwestern is a convenient oversight given that they completely destroy the entire narrative. As well, Louisville was going to fire Satterfield when he suddenly took the newly opened Cincinnati job. Including Brohm in this work-up also makes the whole thing look laughable. 4) Fuck off for posting incorrect, sobbing, gaslighting nonsense. Negged. The dude from Northwestern should be on there. Exactly, but that would make the entire notion moot.
  14. Had a conversation with a friend who has gotten involved with ATM over the last decade as he's made a fortune and donated. He helped land Fisher and the 2022 class and has been involved with "NIL". He's whip smart and a very likeable person, but he's also a killer in the business world and a full-blown red ass. He got a call to help out on the Fisher firing and told them he'd help if they'd open up a matching amount of money for academic scholarships and fire everyone involved with Fisher's contract. They decided not to take his money this time. There is a faction that wants Kingsbury and no one cares. There's a faction that doesn't want Traylor. I don't know how much those groups and guys like my friend all overlap, but NIL at ATM is highly likely to be taking a hit for a while.
  15. I was making fun of it as much as criticizing that he was still seriously overweight and he was going to have limited snaps because of it. I don’t see how those aren’t obviously true. That doesn’t take away from his performance other than we’d all like to see more of it. I’m interested to see the analogs for Sweat as we head towards the draft. There are more interested and brighter guys than me on here, so this might be way off, but I’ve been assuming Terrance Cody could come up. That would be both good and bad for Sweat. I’ve asked on the NIL stuff to folks who would know and apparently Gerry is pure national scouting and Texas content, not involved with rankings or NIL assumptions. On the rankings end, I think he wants a lot of distance from what they’re doing. Not sure about Bobby on the NIL tool but he has no say in rankings either. To the rankings issue, does anyone know who On3 is saying handles those? Or is it a secret?
  16. At this point with the portal and NIL, it's just prudent for anyone who is graduating with eligibility remaining to walk, so they get the ceremony and memories in, and then take a look at what options present themselves. The portal this cycle is going to be really interesting because NIL is getting somewhat exhausted by all schools. You're effectively in year 3 of it. You've got recruiting classes now and prior coming in expecting to see something if they're worth a shit. Then you have roster performers and roster promise. Then the random graduate or two that you'd also like to retain. So how much is left and who is worth it in terms of bringing them in as a transfer? We're trending towards the notion that most guys hitting the portal are one of the three U's of recruiting concern: Unhappy, Unwanted, or Unexperienced, or all three together. Maybe there are good reasons for a guy getting, like his coach sucks or he's got an NFL guy in front of him, but there is a higher degree of risk on the portal guys this cycle than when it was more a novelty. A massive factor in portal NIL and retention NIL in this cycle for Texas is going to be the level of corporate NIL resources that can be tapped into.
  17. I've been tracking this since we used this thread to make some predictions before the season. I've spoilered what I wrote in early August below for my own entertainment. I feel like 7 out of 10 at this stage of the season is pretty good. I had USC, Iowa and Utah in my top 10 instead of Oregon, Missouri, and Louisville. I don't think anyone picked Mizzou or Louisville in the preseason, so, yeah. I said the Pac 12 was kind of interchangeable at the top and I'd prefer to bet on Williams over Nix since the rumor was that the USC defense was improving. Welp. Things that piss me off as a fan with these rankings: a) Penn State - They're 11th in the AP. They're going to finish the regular season in the top 10 after some upheaval in rivalries and conference title games ahead of them. Why does James Franklin continue to get the benefit of the doubt from anyone? The Big 10 is a bad football league and that fucking idiot shits the bed any time he plays someone of consequence. I don't think PSU would beat another 1 or 2 loss team in the rankings besides Iowa, again. b) LSU - They're the highest ranked 3 loss team. LSU has a good win against a good Missouri team on the road. Besides that, they've lost to the other 3 teams with a pulse on their schedule: FSU, Ole Miss, and Bama. The rest of their games are mostly blowouts against objectively terrible to mediocre teams. c) Oregon State ranked ahead of Arizona - Arizona has a bad loss, at home, in the season opener against Mississippi State. They lost that game in OT by one score. They've lost two other games by one score each, one being in overtime. They've since won 5 straight to get to 8-3. One of those wins in that streak? Oregon State. OSU has 3 losses and the loss to Wazzou is marginally better than the UA loss to Miss State. All 3 losses are close, but head to head should matter. Some of these voters are lazy and likely forgot about the H2H in the first place. d) Tennessee - This team has no business being ranked. UTenn is 7-4. Each of the 4 losses are by two scores or more and 2 of the losses are outright blowouts. Tennessee has beaten: Virginia (3-8), Austin Peay (FCS, they should be ashamed playing them and I'm not looking up their record on principle. It's FCS, fuck you, Tennessee), UTSA (8-3, Frank Harris was hurt this game for UTSA), South Carolina (5-6), ATM (7-4), Kentucky (6-5), and UConn (2-9 - These pussies played UConn and an FCS school.) They finish the season against a pathetic Vanderbilt (2-9) team and will head to a bowl at 8-4. Their signature win is ...??? ATM? UTSA? And we'll get to hear about how tough they are. They'll get matched up in a bowl against some middling, shitsack of a team from the Big 10 or ACC, win the bowl by one score, and then help the SEC declare CFB hegemony yet again.
  18. Godwin's Law proven out effectively on this week's thread quickly on the 4th page. Impressive. If you thought KSU would be an easy win with a backup QB who couldn't hit the broadside of a barn on 50+% of his throws, that's on you. This ain't that, with Texas or Tech, however, so it's a very bizarre comparison.
  19. "Out west" means that Liucci is a monkey throwing his own poo at the wall and seeing what sticks. There is nothing to interpret from his comments. When he has an actual clue what they're going to do, and he'll get it from the money involved, we will all know very quickly. He's making things up out of whole cloth right now. Of course, that all said, one thing that amazes me about the ATM job opening so far is that no one has mentioned Seven Loss Steve as a candidate. I've been waiting for that kind of nonsensical self-own the entire time and have been disappointed in a lack of creativity on the part of numbnuts to put that out there.
  20. 1) Gerry has never found a prospect that he couldn't ding on arm size. 2) Sanders isn't coming back. 3) Looks like On3 is serving up a mixed bag for Texas recruits in this update, so that actually feels like a positive. 4) Raisin Bran was always a good choice. 5) Fuck Cheerios and the well-meaning, unfun parents insisting on serving them. I find Cheerios at my house, usually from the little variety boxes, and they're getting dropped straight into the trash.
  21. I think you should keep firing off as much condescending parenting advice to Sydney as you possibly can. If we work together on this, there's a legitimate shot that his head might explode before Thanksgiving.
  22. "Should I really say 'never won anything' since they won a title 84 years ago? Even the most autistic of the usual fuckheads will understand what I mean and go with it, right? Yeah, use the artistic license and bet against pedantry." And then pedantry wins. People like to say that pussy is undefeated, and I have a hard time countering that. Nonetheless, a cage match between Surly pedantry and pussy might go more rounds than any of the non-pedants think.
  23. If that dude is out, Tech fans should just go ahead and light the cigarettes now, because they've already been fucked. That would mean heading to Austin without 3 of the 4 best defenders. They were a weird defense to begin with, in that half the starters were good and half of them really sucked. You'd want the shitty ones to be the guys getting hurt, I think. Jesus. Never mind. They should have been lighting the cigarettes weeks ago. If Tyler Owens is a big time contributor for you, you were fucked walking into the season.
  24. I haven't thought about it much until you asked this question, but I *think* my behavior at this point is valuing the schools who are putting real effort in on a recruit over anything else. I only really follow the rankings at this point for the vanity side of things. When Gerry and Burton and Howe were really involved with the work at 247, I thought they were just destroying anything else out there, but that's been over a decade. I've become pretty disillusioned about the rankings across the board over the years. Hearing the stories about On3 and Rivals lately just has me shaking my head. Some people think that Rivals is just waiting to see what the other services are doing first and then just mixing the list up some and peppering it with favorites from some of the publishers with the most subscriptions to their sites.
