  1. Enjoy your fanboying. It's really going to payoff. Folks always like to post that quote as though Ehlinger wound up being some sort of wizard. He went 1-4 against OU and 32-17 (.653) as a starter at Texas. He was fine as a college QB and battering ram. Putting him on the Major Applewhite Pedestal for Average QBs Who Become Folk Heroes at Texas is a choice, I guess.
  2. There is a legitimate possibility that Yormark is intelligent enough to realize that the only shot the conference has in terms of getting some of that sweet, sweet CFP largesse is if Texas wins out. I actually think that's why the officiating seemed closer to decent against TCU. It's $6M to the conference, I believe, should a team make the CFP. Is that enough to matter? I don't know. It's enough to give pause, however. I realize the unfunny consensus on this board is that Yormark is a thoughtless imbecile and that Texas will always be fucked with Big 12 officiating. Those posts can be spared. We all get it. Just throwing out the possibility that a rational human being might look at circumstances as they're presenting themselves and say "maybe we should just focus our 'fuck yous' for OU since Texas has a chance to make all of us some money?"
  3. It's all manufactured silliness from someone trolling for clicks. There is no more veracity to the notion of McMillon looking around than there is of the existence of sasquath or the Loch Ness Monster.
  4. Fisher, while deeply flawed in so many ways, could recruit. The "NIL" they have access to didn't hurt, but that little elf could sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman wearing white gloves. Traylor was a solid recruiter on Herman's staff. He'll be fine at ATM, should he get the gig, but he's not on Fisher's level. Obviously, his staff will be key in that regard as well. Elko was a good recruiter at ATM, but that was via leaning heavily on Robinson. He'd be able to keep most of the class together. No matter who lands the job, gravity is a bitch. This would still be a transition class for a new hire with no momentum at an unhappy, moribund program trapped inside the triangle of major recruiting powers around them, all with better momentum. That will weigh things down. I think it is safe to assume that there will be further attrition in the class and the future additions will take a hit in quality.
  5. I don't really give one fuck what an NFL analyst thinks about Richardson. The guy is fucking terrible and he's also unable to stay healthy. Mike Leach was right when he talked about not being to fix inaccurate. Some ailments are fatal.
  6. Biff Poggi at ATM would be too much for me to take. I think I would bust a blood vessel from laughter.
  7. I didn't post anything like that about Ewers because I didn't share that outlook. I'm about as far from the "players don't develop or improve" mantra that is absolutely common with posters on college football boards. That said, when you know, you know. I called Garrett Gilbert, Tyrone Swoopes, and Caleb Klubnik, all for similar reasons, with the same confidence I have in Murphy never getting it done for a P5 program. Improve? Sure. It's hard not to expect that if he's being coached well. To expect enough improvement that he'd be a starting P5 asset, however, is folly.
  8. Anthony Richardson was a terrible pick by the Colts, nonetheless. Just an obvious disaster that will be mocked for years. The good news, however, is that, sure, he can just change positions and start absolutely mauling WRs as the world's largest CB. We'll just have to disagree on this one. I think he's got a lot of unfixable shit going on and don't see him ever being anything but a poor man's Joe Milton or Ryan Mallett, and that would be the best version of him maximizing what he's working with and not playing scared shitless in the pocket. He would have looked like shit playing against LSU's defense. Nut yourself over advanced stats all you'd like, but they have no bearing on how Murphy played. He was bad bad bad bad bad irrespective of opposition.
  9. Mostly, I was reacting to whoever had misinterpreted the draft grade for "Murphy" being about Maalik. Obviously he isn't draft eligible and I was being ridiculous, but I do find the notion of Maalik Murphy ever going anywhere near the 3rd round in a draft to be laughable.
  10. I don't think anyone here wishes anything negative for the guy. But this is a recruiting thread and evaluating honestly is part of the deal. He's going to transfer, and I hope he crushes it wherever he goes, and yet I also have no problem on this one and saying that he won't crush it wherever he goes.
  11. He's not good. He has two valuable assets that are unteachable - physique and arm strength. Beyond that, he's not just mediocre at most other facets for a QB, he's off the charts bad at a lot of them. He's scared of contact. He imagines pocket pressure in ways that make Quinn Ewers envious. He's immobile to the point of being a statue. He has the touch of drunken step parent and the accuracy of a storm trooper. He can read the field the way a kindergartner can read James Joyce. He's got Garrett Gilbert's long striding down pat. In short, he's got a lot of unfixable problems and he's never going to be a productive QB at the P5 level.
  12. Is this a bet that interests you, sir? Let's do this. Maalik Murphy couldn't pull off a sub 4.5 forty at the combine if they let him go for it on a dirt bike.
  13. That recruiting update is fucking outstanding. That guy is not just offering hope, he's pushing improvement in the ATM class. As multiple recruits are planning visits to numerous other schools now, Brauninger is dismissing the notion that any of them will walk, and then promoting the notion of a decommitment coming back into the fold. I don't think that kind of audacious gaslighting could be pulled off with any other college football fanbase outside of ATM. Holy shit.
  14. If Jesus Christ came down from on high, walked into my office right now, and showed me the 3rd round grade for Maalik Murphy himself, I still wouldn't believe it. Standing offer for the board - I will take the opposite side of the bet for any amount of money you want to place on Maalik Murphy getting drafted in the 3rd round or higher in the 2024 NFL draft. I will keep this offer open up to the day of the draft, just let me know.
  15. I got behind on this thread, so apologies if this was posted already. I thought it was funny.
  16. Biff and Charlotte took Memphis to OT and lost this past weekend. They stand at 3-7 and play Rice (4-6) and South Florida (5-5) to close out the season. Two teams fighting for bowl eligibility and Biff stands in their way. Rice has to beat the fighting Biff Poggis and then the flaming Tom Hermans to get to 6-6.
  17. Texas has never pushed for Bussey. They recruited him, but he didn't mesh well on his visit, he doesn't have a definite position, and he's always been a "is the juice worth the squeeze" recruit for Texas, with the answer being "no". McKinley has the issues discussed in the past that kind of make his recruitment similar to Bussey's. There is a belief that he's looking for a reason to stay put with ATM. Good for them, I guess. Offensive Tackles with serious shoulder injuries should simply be avoided. Can they come back from them and be fine? Sure. Can they wind up total busts in part because of the nature of the injury? Tommy Brockermeyer. Texas would have absolutely taken Myles Davis and they simply got beat in that recruitment. Texas would have absolutely taken Corian Gipson and they simply got beat in that recruitment. Given where things are trending with Filsaime, there's an argument to be made that Texas would not take either of the other guys at this point. Don't call me a liar if Texas lands Filsaime and still also takes Davis, but they'd have to feel like they have nothing to lose by adding him at the last minute. Obviously, landing Filsaime is the big deal and not a sure thing at all. Regarding Gipson, there is justified concern about recovery from a serious knee injury, even in 2023. Regarding DT, Texas likes what it sees for its roster in 2024. There isn't the kind of urgency that people were begging for heading into this cycle. Between the guys coming back and the guys they are signing, apparently things look good. Someone significant in the portal wouldn't stun me. I'll be stunned if Murphy returns, personally. Panama Red Bryant can go fuck himself.
  18. I remember stating repeatedly that he was gone on the coaching carousel and Urban Meyer threads as time passed. I understood the handwringing, but folks involved were steadfast. Tom Herman was right there with all of the folks who didn't buy that he'd be fired. He thought the Meyer stuff was a joke and Internet rumor until several of his staff members sat him down and said "hey man, they're really talking to him." He was equally stunned when they sat him down and told him he was fired. I've always taken a small amount of pleasure in that, sadly. I don't like to root in favor of someone losing their job, usually, but that asswipe earned his unceremonious exit.
  19. "What's special about this CycloneFB team ..." How about nothing? Like, not a fucking thing is special about a P5 team sitting at 6-4 with a loss to Ohio on the books. I cannot imagine being a fan of a program where that kind of mediocrity is celebrated. We've spent 13 years wandering the wilderness of CFB in some version of fandom hell and more than half the records during that period are better than 6-4. We fucking hated it all. Holy shit that is pathetic.
  20. The current aggie staff members are telling players that it's Elko and to hold off on transferring because most of the staff won't be going anywhere.
  21. No kidding. This thread is a fucking disaster. Damned near every time I click on it and try to catch up, I wind up scrolling back up with "wait, what thread did I click on?" in my head. It's just a wall of splattered poo coming in from all directions and the heinous miasma hovering along with it.
  22. That was the word and no one has ever edited the story. CDC didn't want to fire Herman after year 3. No clue as to the veracity, but the info came from folks who have been right on a whole lot of shit when it comes to Texas and CFB. I don't hate Campbell. I don't care enough about the guy to have that kind of emotion. I think he's a thunderdouche, sure. In any event, it wasn't Campbell's fault for Herman staying on as HC.
  23. Korie Black is a good ballplayer for OSU. I've watched him a few times this year and he's done well as far as I can gather watching a CB on tv. He likes their pretty colors. It's like the women and kids who like Michigan because they think they have cool helmets.
  24. There is a very good reason he is sitting on his announcement. I wouldn't worry about anything associated to that recruitment.
  25. Worrying about Gary Patterson as a HC anywhere from this point forward is just dickless handwringing. His approach was failing before the portal and NIL both took steroids. The notion that he’d suddenly turn over a new leaf and start crushing it again is absurd.
