    On ball placement:

Aside from the examples above, there seemed to be an unnatural location for spots throughout the game for UW.

What I mean is that in the normal course of a game, you see a play, you see the spot, you make a mental check, ok and move on.

In this game, there were many times where I thought, "that's not quite right".  On over half I would say there was no replay shown to provide confirmation. It just felt a little weird. I would say mostly in the first half.

i can almost guarantee you that if you go back and watch, almost all of those mental notes you made in the first half were ball spots by the linesman on our sideline.

good point.  so what the officials said is you can shove a guy after the whistle(dead ball) and it can be picked up if the original call was block in the back(during play).

I can already see the discussion

flag ref "I have a block in the back"

white hat Big 10/Wash ref " are you sure?  was it during the play?"  " I think so"

other big 10/Wash ref "I have it after the play"

white hat "was it unnecessary roughness?"

flag ref "well it wasn't egregious"

white hat "got it. we will pick it up since it wasn't roughing"

good to know for the future.

i edited above but i mis-stated.  should have been 1st and 20 if a block in the back.

i really don't attribute malice here when incompetence will suffice.  the notion that big 10 officials would consciously or subconsciously favor washington seems like a stretch to me.  with the exception of the line judge on our sideline...he was really bothering me all night as he seemed especially bad at his job.  being big 10 refs, that game had to feel like it was in fast forward the whole time and they were likely struggling to keep up.

but the conversation as you have played it out has to be something close to it...there really isn't another plausible explanation.  and if that is right, then they are too fucking stupid to keep their jobs.

this.  the only incorrect move is to pick up the flag, which they chose, because Big 10/Wash.  It needed to be first and 20 or first and 25.

it should have either been 1st and 20 (for illegal block in the back) or it should have been 2nd and 27 (dead ball unnecessary roughness/unsportsmanlike) after the play resulted in a two yard loss.

Awesome.  I’m a former poster on ancestral boards, created an account to post in a thread @immamacstarted in $9.95, seemingly to solicit honest feedback about what plagues him, he segregates my comments in a new thread I didn’t title, and I get negged into oblivion by @PenelopeWitherspoonand other cunts like her.

I’m at the Ritz in the Quarter, beyond pissed about what I witnessed tonight down the street. I don’t know most of you in real life, and so for the people monitoring this thread, you can go fuck yourselves.

clearly rex/porterhouse/whatever the fuck else.  no one else is a big enough douche to work so fucking hard at projecting such a pathetic caricature.

CR is the board where definitive declarations must be supported by reputable reporting, or opinion clearly identified as such. It is where reputable reporting is challenged, with substantive criticism. Folks wanting to post unsupported talking points are met with negative consequences. Folks who claim otherwise are misinformed.

IMO, the real beef with CR is that the above structure is not hospitable to R narratives. And that is unacceptable to Surly posters who don’t want the R narrative exposed, who don’t want the D narrative posted, who can’t ignore the board, who refuse to use the ignore function, and who cannot scroll past posts they prefer not to read.

    this is very well put.

Outside of a couple of plays, last night's performance by our secondary was more of a product of Penix Jr's pinpoint accuracy and Washington's WR's ability to make contested catches than egregiously poor secondary play. Their receivers simply refuse to drop anything and on top of that they make plays for their QB on the rare occasion he's off target. I still can't believe we still had a chance to completely burglarize last night's game, because in all honesty, given the mistakes we made in terms of penalties, turnovers and simply not having the ball, we were extremely lucky to have a chance to win with the last play. Speaking of, has Quinn Ewers ever really thrown a fast ball. I can't remember him throwing a ball that wasn't of the feathery variety. If he throws that last pass on more of a line there's a good chance we come away with the win.

this is dead on.  that was what kind of blew my mind as well.  i really wanted to be the 4 instead of the 3 because i figured washington was our worst matchup given how bad our pass defense has been outside the numbers all year.

but as fucked up as it sounds to say when you just gave up the fourth most yards in cfp history, our pass defense wasn't horrible last night.  they did not get toasted and there weren't many wide open plays that we gave up so many times this year.  we forced the washington wrs to make plays and they just did.  they played out of their minds.  and penix was unbelievably accurate.  that isn't to say that our dbs played a great game or anything, but it wasn't what i expected.  we had decent to good coverage on a substantial number of their big plays.  they just made the plays.  and given how ineffective our pass rush was on top of it, they hung in there okay.

game was frustrating.  turnovers and penalties really got us.  quinn being having jittery feet and terrible release point in the first half.  sark with some seriously bad playcalling in the last four.  and washington's skill guys just making freaking plays.  frustrating.

also, i am so sick of 6th year qbs.

That's not actually similar to what I asked, but OK.

I specifically recall some people predicting that schools like UGA and 'bama would not be able to keep up.  This doesn't seem to be the case.  I'm just wondering if I'm reading it wrong.

    it really is.

uga and bama will absolutely be able to keep up and whoever said that is wrong.  any team with a dedicated fanbase and significant enough sized alumni group that is committed to football success is going to benefit and people in alabama and georgia would rather the dawgs/tide win than eat every day of the week.

however, anyone questioning if texas has benefited from it needs only to look at the 2022 class coming off a 5-7 season and a loss to kansas in sark's first year.  in december and february, we signed the 5th ranked class in the nation and arguably the best oline class in the nation (at the same time that some folks here got a $50K per olineman salary mechanism going)...along with getting the top qb transfer to come from ohio state.  then, after going a disappointing 8-5 in 2022, we signed the number 3 class in the nation.  the fruits of that are just now beginning to be realized.

I've thought about it, but that is forever known in our household as the "free baby guitar" so I can't let go of it.  I'm sure I've told the story, but since I'm old, imma tell it again.  The day of Mrs. F's baby shower, a friend called me up and said, "Hey, you want to go check out this guitar shop up in Lewisville that's going out of business?"  You know the answer.  I asked my wife, "How much is this baby going to cost?"  She said the deductible has been met this year.  Won't cost us a thing.  So turns out the first shop was picked clean, but the R6 was hanging on the wall at the local GC and they were trying to get rid of it as it had been there for a while.  I was their man.

The R8 I'm pondering on.  I'm about to head out on travel, but if anyone wants a solid R8 that has grovers now and better than original (though I didn't do the replacing) pups, let me know come mid Jan.  The neck is just a hair thick for my tiny mitts.  So if I could find a thinner r9/r0 with the same basic look/sound, I'd swap.

i would be happy to sentimentally recall how you and mrs. fuck did not have any deductible obligations when your kid was born so you spent it at guitar center instead every time i pick it up to play as well. ;)

I don't pay a whole lot of attention to recruiting:  how is NIL's effect shaking out?  When it was announced, the consensus was that schools like Texas, USC and Notre Dame would start to dominate.  It doesn't seem that's happened yet, although 7-5 and 9-3 seasons probably didn't help those other two programs much, either.

That said, ESPN has Oregon's class ranked #3, which might hint at the power of $$$.  Thoughts?

lol, jimmy, this is genuinely akin to someone wandering into the guitar pron thread and saying "so hey guys, what's your take on this whole new thing with guitars plugging in...what do you guys think the impact of this sound like chuck berry is going to be?"

yes, nil has been officially weaponized in an organized fashion and the entrenched superpowers of college football are benefiting greatly.  the disparity between the haves and have nots in their recruiting and transfer hauls is getting significantly greater.  steve sarkisian specifically has been a significant beneficiary of the timing of this change.  but not all blue bloods have equally weaponized it in the same fashion for various reasons...

Now for something completely different. I decided to treat myself for my birthday/Christmas. 2000 54 LP Custom reissue with the staple neck pup. Been looking for a while but I made a lowball offer and the guy accepted so what is a guy to do? I think I have a new house favorite.

    One with the stablemates.

The neck is somewhere between the baseball bat of the R6 and R8 and the fairly skinny profile of my 82 LP Custom. Fits like a glove. Haven’t done a lot of overdriven tones as I just got this evening and I don’t want to wake the neighbors. But it does clean real nice.

Now if I just had more time to play it.

looks like you're out of room and need to unload that goldtop.  i could do you the favor.
