  1. (Edit: Transcript of an IT video. Did it so my head wouldn't explode because of all the crap on the last few pages.) The Recruiting Breakdown July 11, 2023 GERRY Hills: Feels good about RPM; thinks LSU wants him, even if they say the don't; checks all the boxes; Texas big time favorite Jayden Jackson: NIL big factor; OSU, Ok, Texas; Texas and OSU favorites; tougher than Hills recruitment; element of surprise (not told any school as of last night). OSU 191 miles away, so distance-wise, OSU makes sense. Family in Houston. NIL key factor. Miami making a run at Jackson and Lindsey. Wingo: More like and AD Mitchell / Neyor outside receiver; Wingo is like Cook, inside/outside, versatile. D'Antre Robinson: Thinks Texas over Florida, feels pretty good about Texas; don't see how he doesn't end up a 4 star prospect. Not been in much contact with Fla. TJ Lindsey: Texas or Aub. Miami/A&M also trying. If Lindsey decides before July 20th, positive for Texas. Else, Texas/Aub visits end of July, becomes a coin flip. Dominick McKinley: Wants to announce at UA. As of now, doesn't think LSU. Or OSU. Will LSU/Ala get Official Visits? Mom likes acads (she commented grad rates among DLs has gone up, since Sark - not an easy to find data point.) Hills: July 12th Jackson: July 13th Robinson: July 21st Corian Gibson: July 22nd Lindsey: Late July McKinley: UA game Simmons hanging out with JJR and others somewhere. Not much info on Zino; thought it would be done by now, but slowed down. Texas confident. Simmons - nothing changed, very street smart, media savvy. Believes Texas in the lead, depends on where he shows up end of July. Visited Miami, Oregon, SMU - not going there. Thinks Texas, LSU, Aggie. Last weekend of July important next step, if still uncommitted. Danny Okoye: Into fall. Will Mom show up at OU BBQ? Jordan Ross: Not expected to go to FLA. Visited Texas, liked the visit. Mom into Texas/academics. Tennessee big player. Wardell Mack: Texas team to beat, decision maybe late July or Aug. If he goes to Fla late July, could change thinking. When does he commit? Does he then visit LSU? Numbers buster for LSU, that talented. Kobe Black: May go into fall Selman Bridges: Ark. Myles Davis: Aggie lean. Corian Gibson: Would be an upset if not Texas :-)). Not told Clemson he's not coming. Thinks Texas/Clem, OSU not a player. Thinks he entered June knowing where he was going. Brandon Baker: Thinks decision late July or Aug. Oregon slipped. Now, Texas, Ohio State, Oregon. Sark/Flood zoom call tonight. Plays right tackle. Jones leaving, playing time positive. When moved up timeline, called Texas for OV - thinks positive data point. Blake Ivy: Aggie favorite over Texas, LSU right there. Sark/Flood zoom call with him too. Wanted tackle, realizing guard is where he may be long term, Texas was honest. Acad/business, Texas/Ag avantage there. Eugene Brooks: Not recruiting any longer. DeAndre Carter: Visiting for Kansas game. Aub, Texas, Mich State, USC/UCLA - recruitment going into fall. Good communication. Q - will he leave the West Coast? (Baker will - will Carter?) Tackle - Ory Williams, Westin Davis, Poton(sp?) still on the board. Still think 16/17 by end of July … JUSTIN Wells going to meet Wingo; Texas has really pushed; Sark has relationship; different predictions, no one knows for sure; IT thinks Texas (Gerry - he had said ESD, but may not stick)
  2. F Ketch, but the underlying issue is one I've been concerned about - the dilution of the "4-star" ranking (and 3 star too, I suppose). - You have around 32 5 stars (currently 34 in the composite) - 4 stars extend to ~ 448. So around 414 4 stars. - The quality of recruits ranked in the 40s/50s/60s is way different from those ranked in the high 300s and low 400s. If the industry could just move to a consistent and reasonable definition, star rankings would once again regain their meaning. I don't care about the NFL, but since they do, one option - since they seem to obsess over the NFL - is to divvy up the 256 or so picks (regular plus compensatory) across the star rankings: - 1st round - 32 recruits - 5 stars - 2nd/3rd rounds - next 70 ish - 4 stars - 4th through 7th rounds - (150 ish) - 3 stars Remainder - 2 or below. I suppose the risks would be a) greater likelihood of analysts missing b) schools bummed over not getting artificially inflated 4/3 stars. Crap.
  3. Four-Star OL DeAndre Carter talks official visits to Auburn and Michigan State, Texas up next It's shaping as a three-team race for the talented offensive lineman with Auburn, Michigan State and Texas making a push. Greg Biggins
  4. Per On3, the number one IOL in the country ... is a guy from Texas, named Casey Poe. Offers/visits - Bama, Georgia, Clemson, etc.. Looks Bama bound. We didn't offer him. And that Aggie QB commit - Miles? Went from unranked to #58 overall (#6 QB).
  5. On3 updated their rankings. Struggling to think of a more negative rankings update ... pretty nuts. COMMITS Santana Wilson: Dropped (from 90 to 95) Jerrick Gibson: Dropped (from 43 to 117) Aeryn Hampton: Dropped (from 145 to 159) Daniel Cruz: Dropped (from 150 to 171) Alex January: Dropped (from 217 to 231) Freddie Dubose: Dropped (170 to 235) TARGETS Colin Simmons: Rose (from 5 to 4) Micah Hudson: Rose (from 9 to 8) Dominic McKinley: Dropped (from 14 to 17) Wardell Mack: Rose (from 28 to 19) Terry Bussey: Dropped (from 16 to 37) Brandon Baker: Dropped (from 30 to 40) Kobe Black: Dropped (from 51 to 68) Corian Gibson: Dropped (from 67 to 71) Danny Okoye: Dropped (from 63 to 76) Blake Ivy: Dropped (from 78 to 91) Ryan Wingo: 97 (not sure where he was before) Selman Bridges: Dropped (from 69 to 199) D'Antre Robinson: Rose (from unranked to 272) Zino Umeozulu: Dropped (from 191 to out of the 300) Hunter Moddon (decommit): Dropped (from 121 to 278) Also, in the new Texas Top 25: - 0 current Texas commits - 15 committed to other schools - Of the 10 remaining, we really don't recruit 4 (Durham, Tatum, Poe, Williams) - So we are recruiting a TOTAL of 6 guys (including Hudson and Bussey ... ) We know we are in the running for several elite recruits, many from outside Texas (Simmons, Black, Wingo, McKinley, Baker, Carter?, Mack, etc.) ... but we better land these guys. UPDATED TOP-25
  6. On Jayden Jackson, this was Friday, from OU 247: Also:

  8. This is from the guy whom they consider - believe it or not - their in-house skeptic and purveyor of negativity. The screengrab of the - ahem - understated headline below. After that is the complete "article" (in the spoilered section), for gluttons of punishment. 2023 Texas A&M profile: Veteran QB Max Johnson could start almost anywhere else Jeff Tarpley
  9. 1) MOST may not prioritize or even consider academics. But " ... a single recruiting report ..." ? Are you kidding me? You don't think academics were a factor in Justice Finkley coming here? Or Hayden Conner? Or in Elijah Higgins and that OL picking Stanford? 2) Someone saying academics are important means they should disregard every other factor and make a choice on that basis alone? Choosing a great blend of academics and football ... that's not consistent with academics being important? If playing close to home and family are important to Colin Simmons ... why is he considering schools other than UNT/SMU/TCU ?? 3) Oh, btw, in many areas of engr, and Comp Science, Texas is up there. (In CS, they're #11 in undergrad, and #8 in grad, per US News.) You know who's not ranked ahead of them in CS? Duke. Northwestern. Vandy. (Debating Texas' academic ranking versus those of the other schools you mentioned isn't central to the point, anyway. Just saying if you wanted to pick elite CS schools (rep/ranking ahead of Texas) that play competitive football, then other than Stanford, pick Cal. For elite CS schools that DON'T play high level football, go with CMU or MIT. Duke/Northwestern/Vandy don't belong in either category.)
  10. McKinley's mom sounds super impressive ... quite an interview. “My biggest thing was academics, and they answered all of those questions. I had a one-on-one conversation with the academics of his choice. It was very informative.” McKinley plans to major in computer science at whichever school he picks. Elite DL Dominick McKinley's mother goes in-depth on Texas official visit Hank South
  11. Interesting comment from Cooper Pategna. (The guy's a National Rec Analyst at 247 now, but has been the Rec Coordinator at Michigan, Director of Player Personnel at Washington, and Rec Co-ord at Oregon.) And then lots of praise for Sark/Texas recruiting from Josh Pate.
  12. Lulz. I could hardly tell on the live feed ... he did the switcheroo.

  15. In his latest Whiparound, WIltfong talked about the Aggie pool party and being in on a bunch of top recruits (attendees likely to be McKinley, Bussey, Wingo, etc.). Gag. He did reiterate that he liked Texas for Wingo (Sark, development and history with receivers, etc.). He said Wingo will be visiting Tenn, Miami, Aggies, etc. so far from a done deal.
