Yea I stand corrected. I was going from memory and his similar six year stretch wasn’t the last six. It’s a few years off. The point I was trying to make is that Augie at the end was not leading a competitive program, and Piece still hasn’t returned it to the stronger performance of the earlier Augie and Gus years. Maybe the program never gets back to that.
Are you talking ‘06-‘12 or ‘13 then? Those were some rough years. Still won the conference I think 5 of those years. But the drop off was significant after the ‘10 team lost in the supers. Went from Rupp behind the plate to Jacob Felts. Our starting rotation of Jungmann, Cole and Workman went to, well, Jungmann and I honestly can’t remember who else. Huge talent drop off either way. And the 2011 team couldn’t hit a beach ball. It’s pretty close between the ‘11 and ‘14 teams being Augie’s best last team. But yeah it got real shitty real fast after 2010

Schuessler’s bat has been one of the pleasant surprises of the season so far but it’s been offset by his inability to even be average behind the plate.
Yeah I figured it’d be the other way. Good to great defensively. Shit at the plate. Really need Galvan back

Anyone subscribe to d1baseball.com? If anyone would know who would be a potential candidate for Texas, if the job should become available, it would be Kendall Rogers. It would be interesting to pose that question to him.
Kind of depends. Are you talking after this year or in 2-4 years down the line?

Augie also had 5 CWS titles, Pierce has 0.
And it took him 5 years to get number 3. And no I’m not saying Pierce is Augie. Just sometimes it takes a sec to get the right players in and all that shit

Recruiting has been his weakness. I like what I see from this freshman class.
The next 2 are supposedly even better.
@Hookem2147 and @texifornia would know a bit more about that than I do

Pierce will not win a natty at Texas. He'll do enough to not get fired for awhile - a Super/CWS appearance every couple of years - but he will not win a championship. He's just not the guy.
I think he can. We were a cunt hair away from winning it all in ‘21. And that was with a roster he assembled. He can assemble another roster like that again. Shit look at our freshman and next couple recruiting classes. We’re gonna be 02-09 level of talent here pretty soon.

Porter Brown?

Pierce’s six years have been pretty similar to the last six years of Augie, which was a drop off in the program’s historical performance. The program has slipped.
It’s no secret I have never liked Pierce as the coach. Pierce has this year and next year to demonstrate improvement, or will likely be looking for another job imo.
Except not at all. I don’t remember Augie winning the conference or hosting post 2012 (other than the super in 2014). We’d look ok to start the year then get ass raped in conference and finish like 6th or 7th or something. Nothing was more frustrating than the 2015 team. Returned an ocean of starters from the ‘14 team and we just shit the bed. Simple as that.
So no. Not “pretty similar” at all. Now the program has dipped, I guess. But we’ve still won the conference 3 of the last 4 seasons and have gone to Omaha 3 of the last 5 full seasons. So yeah. Nothing like Augie’s last few years

Too soon? Absolutely. Revisit if we don’t make the tournament. Do not melt down if we lose to aggy.
That’s going really piss me off if we do though. Can’t stand those mouthy cocksuckers.

My yearly expectation is we go to Omaha. And that’s what it should be. Acting like we should win the thing every year just ignores reality though. DP has met expectations with his ability to get to Omaha.
I mean we’re kind of saying the same thing. Hosting means we’re pretty damn good to great which gives us a pretty good shot of making it to Omaha

There needs to be an expectations reality check along with everything else being discussed. This program deserves high standards but we’ve won 4 titles in the last 50 years. As much as it sounds cool to say winning championships is the standard it very much is not.
My yearly expectations are win the conference and host. Then let the chips fall where they may. Baseball is weird. I thought we had a national title level team in ‘06 and ‘10. Just the way baseball is

Biggest blunder of the offseason we didn’t realize in real time was not taking a catcher from the portal or juco ranks.
Not sure how I convinced myself we were okay at that spot but I did. A raw Rylan Galvan and a walk-on coming off an injury in 2023.
Well, Galvan is going to develop through the year. Schuessler is like a Petrinsky lite. That homer was nice, but he’d hit like .230 on the year as an everyday starter.
Galvan on the other hand could be good to great. Just needs more reps. But yeah, not having a legit 3rd team catcher is murdering us. Why don’t we have a Teagarden, Rupp, Tres or Silas ever year? That’s our standard

If you've actually watched every game then you'd know that our pitching, both starters and bullpen, have looked pretty damn good this year despite the opponent. Yes Cal Poly sucks, but a shutout sweep has only happened for us 3 times ever. If your opinion is that our pitching hasn't been good before this weekend, then you don't know a fucking thing about pitching.
It’s almost like we shut out a team all 3 games in a series for the first time since nam

Not really. We had both our starters run within 4 innings this weekend. San Diego was good but the rest of the competition was pretty garbage at hitting. Our closer blew a lead. The sky isnt falling but the pitching isnt "pretty good"
Ok, what about kind of good?

sounds like I picked a good game to miss. Pierce is in a bit of trouble. Pitching is extremely meh, catching a bit suspect also. not a good recipe.
Gonna take some real coaching to get these guys to a Super.
I’d kill for DJ Pertrinsky right now

Probably so haha.
However, it'd be really nice to get an early lead (like 8-1) and let both Harrison and Witt throw with absolutely no pressure.
Is this the “absolutely no pressure” you had in mind?

Not a lot of run on this nerd's fastball. Pretty flat/straight. We should tee off on him.
And if we don’t, time to bring back T-Nic

Washington got their first win of the season against Whataburger Aggie in Corpus Christi.
Stanford is 1-5 to start the year and has been outscored 58-24 in those games.5 hours ago, WBT said:Our buddies the Toreros just hit a grand slam in the 7th to go up 6-3 over Arizona. They already beat them in Game 1 last night. Should be good for the rpi.
That’s astonishing. Zona wasn’t exactly a powerhouse but they were a solid ass program since 2000 or so. Stanford is a huge WTF there. Could be they are taking the David Pierce rout of “who gives a fuck before conference play…” but shit, being outscored like that is fucking insane. Then again, our ‘21 team looked like ass through the first 6 games and we were a cunt hair away from playing for it all. Who knows with this beautiful, crazy ass game

i just keep praying he goes the cedric daniels route and gets talked into “stepping down for family/health reasons”.’
do i think this will happen? no. is it possible this will happen? also no. fuck we are so screwed.
So basically, you want him to whip his dick out in front of some cheerleaders pregame. Noted

Hell yeah. Back to back shutouts. I’ll take that every game please

So DP personally ripped off Mercers arm off and make Luke Storm quit like a bitch? Those 2 would’ve seriously helped last weekend
