Seriously this team would look a lot different with even half the pitching injuries.   It makes you wonder if there's a systematic issue or if it's just bum luck.   I do think it should affect how Pierce is evaluated, good or bad.

It seems like this goes back 20 years. Maybe it’s recency bias but I swear damn near every season since 9/11 we’ve had a pitcher with some arm issue.

So I guess the terrorist won.

I can’t name one quality pitcher we’ve added through the transfer portal since it began. Marcus Olivarez I guess for the 2022 season?

We've been much better with bats. Antico, Messinger, Brown, Guillemette.

Does Andy McGuire count? He was a really weird situation but turned into a decent closer for us

This is the exact same thing we said last year though. We had one starter going into the season.

I dunno if anyone was more negative than me going into the season. But with the offense being better than expected and the way DP teams generally develop, I just don’t see a reason to panic yet.

I mean it's not though. This team has pop but the fielding is just bad and has been all season.

I'm just not seeing how they turn into a contender.

The fuck is this? Bizzaro world? Hobbes pumping sunshine and ztejas shitting on us? March baseball is tearing us apart

I just can't do it this year. These guys looked shitty as soon as I saw them play. You and @Hookem2147 can keep beleiving - you might be right - i just can't do the "just give them time they'll gel" this season. They look awful.

When we win tomorrow, we won’t let you back on the bandwagon. You only have yourself to blame

True, and he's certainly come up big in other games (Miami, for example), but I never have a good feeling when he starts. That's my cross to bear, I suppose, but he rarely seems confident with his stuff.

I'd be pretty psyched having him as a Tuesday starter or long reliever, which is where I think he'll end up if Boehm or another guy shows progress.

Go ahead. Keep talking shit about Hurley. Do your part, buddy

I know via secondhand that he needed to rally basketball stakeholders around the firing and it was far from a consensus.  I also think that part of it was because he was personally reluctant and hoped that Beard could somehow exonerate himself or that some alternative option (to firing) might present itself.

That said, I think there was pressure from other donors and from the Presidents office and his attorney acting like a giant asshole didn’t help.

Anyway, to bring it back to Pierce, I don’t think the investment is there (both because he’s not a CDC hire and because a Mack Brown like cultivation of donors is unusual).  He’s clearly a good coach and the team usually improves as the season goes on but he may be a relatively inferior program manager to other options.

That last paragraph there, yeah there aren’t really any Augie’s or Coach Gus types out there anymore. Jay Johnson I guess? But he’s no where near those guys. Kind of like in college football right now without Saban. There’s no clear cut best in the country right now.

Is Pierce the best coach in the country? No. At the moment do I feel like he’s the right fit? Yes. Let’s get the next 2 recruiting classes on campus and see what he’s really got

This is an old callback, but it’s Tuesday and I am coming down from coaching a tight 9U-10U late game, so okay.

Arizona was a power for a very long time. They won multiple CWS and have one of the winningest programs in CBaseball history. They’ve put more guys in the majors than like 6 programs. Sadly, they’ve won a CWS more recently than us. They can be a giant in the sport any time they give a shit enough to hire someone worth a damn.

They’re far more than a kinda power for a spell this century.

Thanks for the history lesson. After I posed that I went down Wikipedia and was like “oh shit! Didn’t realize they were that strong of a program.” Lice and learn. Thanks for the history lesson, ctj. Truly appreciate it. I’ll soak up anything college baseball.

Speaking of do you, @BillyGoatHill @Beau Vine or any of the other college baseball crew over here have any good books on college baseball history?

“Arizona wasn’t exactly a powerhouse but they were a solid ass program since 2000 or so.”

So did you just start watching college baseball around 2000 or so? Or what?

Well, I turn 31 in March. So yeah pretty much. My first Texas baseball memory was going to an alumni game in like ‘98 or something. Followed the next 3 teams closely. Then I had a family friend playing for us in 02 so I went to an ocean of games while he was there from ‘02-‘04. And an ocean of games since then.

So basically yeah. My dad filled me in on UT baseball history from the 50’s to the end of the Gus days. That’s a lot of where my college and Texas baseball knowledge comes from

Pierce isn't going anywhere. I can live with that. He's turned this team around before and I hope he can do it again. But goddamn it's getting frustrating.

We're young and we have a lot of good freshman talent that might blossom in the next few years but we're Texas and we don't like waiting. Pitching looked good before this past weekend and now most of our bullpen looks like shit. My hope is that he now has more of a set plan on who to start and who will be the backbone of the bullpen (*cough* BOEHM *cough*)

Does Porter Brown have an ugly girlfriend? Get that dude's confidence back up somehow. Take these guys to the Landing Strip but not the night before a game.

Was just talking to @B00Mabout this. How much longer can we trout him out in left with his shitty defense and can’t hit a beach ball at the plate? Is Blake Peterson ready for the spotlight? Cause I can’t handle watching Porter in left. It’s just painful

I just watched a game at Disch Falk Field where almost 1 out of every 3 people that attended were rooting for the other team.

Not sure vandy and Florida and Georgia and South Carolina are going to travel as well as a school 90 miles east of us or LSU or Arkansas. Just a hunch
