So here's a crazy idea, assume Lebron goes somewhere other than Cleveland or Houston.

Cavs go into tank mode and firesale assets. They start at 104m with Lebron gone, so slightly over the cap, but not in the tax. They want picks and young players to move forward, and want to get value, but Dan Gilbert also wants to save money. What if the Cavs send Kevin Love and Tyronn Lue to the Rockets for Ryan Anderson and a 2020 1st to the Cavs. The Cavs take on 41m of salary in total, but they drop Love's 50m remaining and the 21m off Lue's deal onto the Rockets, which doesn't hit their salary cap or cost luxury tax. The Cavs end up with another 1st round pick for their troubles, and rid themselves of Lue who they would likely fire and pay. The Rockets upgrade from Anderson to a true stretch 4 that can hit 3s, and have a player Morey can potentially trade if needed. Sure it costs Fertitta 21m to do this, but at least it's not luxury tax!

Another option may be to send Love to a team with space like the Suns for a mid 1st in this draft, Anderson to Cle, and Lue to Houston for money savings.

So your idea is that the Cavs trade an all-star and a coach for probably the worst pick of the 1st round and one of the worst contracts in the NBA? Who says no?

I could possibly see that but feels like Lebron sees the core of a team as a Big 3.  It's sort of what he's used to and with salary cap restraints, what's generally possible.  You definitely could be right, but feels like he'd be like, "okay, trade for PG (who reportedly really likes Westbrook and OKC and may stay), sign me and then trade for someone like Kemba Walker or Bradley Beal.  Or maybe if Cousins would sign a slightly under market deal, maybe trade for him and get the core big 3 in place.... Something like that.  I don't know, just thinking aloud.  Don't love the Kemba idea but also hard to see what "star" may be available if the rumors of SA and Kawhi mending fences come to fruition.  I don't think he enjoyed the trying to mesh on the run experience of this season and would want the core in place by the start of the season....

Yeah, I think the Kawhi/Lakers stuff is a pipe dream at this point. I think if Lonzo, Ingram, and Kuzma continue to develop they could be used to sign and trade for bigger star once Deng is off the books.

I may be too swayed by Bill Simmons, but I just think Lebron sees himself as larger than the game. He may really be thinking of himself as a player, brand, media mogul, etc. If he's thinking like that, there is no way he goes to Houston, San Antonio, or Philly. LA would allow him to have multiple life plans going simultaneously. Also, LA has nice weather.

I don't think Lebron is interested in rebuilding with a club.  Wherever he goes, the mission will be to have a ready to roll team next season.  If he goes to LA, who has a young core, it'll be to trade off some of those youngsters for win now guys.  I don't think he wants to wait around until he's 36 to challenge for another championship.

I shouldn't have said a few years. I mean I think he'll start out playing with PG, Ball, and Ingram next season before they figure who to trade away.

  4. Aside from the physical traits, I find Bamba's interest in self-assessment encouraging. He seems determined to get better by working hard AND smart.

2 years 50m for Love is pretty steep. Not sure what the market would be for him, but they will have a tough time moving that and getting less salary in return.

I hadn't realized Love was only 29. I bet if he finds a better fit, he'll have a little career resurgence. There's an "old man" element to his game that I love.

The Ringer brought this up today: if LeBron wants to be a Celtic, he'd probably only need to ask. Just has to tell them to trade Kyrie for him (in a 3-teamer, obviously, since there's no way that Cleveland would want Kyrie back for a lame duck year; so maybe bring in New York or San Antonio). Easy path to the Finals, can immediately compete with Golden State (and probably looks better on paper), set up to win big for the rest of his career, can still dominate the ball with complimentary young stars around him, can save his energy on defense, AND gets to fuck over Kyrie.

    jt would be very displeased.

This would be awesome. Also, all of Boston's future picks would help sprinkle in young talent... something the Cavs never could do.

Attach a guy like EG and maybe even add PJT as well to it along with a first or two..... Someone will probably take it.  It's the NBA and half the organizations have shitty management.

EG would definitely be interesting for a lot of teams, but how do the Rockets do that without matching salary?

They don't see a bust in the bunch and when coaches are honest, they can almost certainly identify a bust risk within the first 48 hours of check-in.

The most significant thing written on this thread. Exceptional news for restocking the roster, and a good sign for Herman's evaluation process. I wasn't worrying this year, but this makes me feel even better. There are so many good players out there. Hopefully Herman's first round went well because of his process.

Lulz. That is not a Top 2 recruiting class OL group.  I'm honestly surprised Jimbo is willing to sign off on the Marine settling so much between the 2020 OL commits and the possibility of grabbing a guy like Trainor this early in the cycle.

Also, good to see Hamm conceding Shepherd. Whenever Hamm gives up on a prospect, you know aggy's in a bad spot for him.

A general question: I know Florida State turned out alot of NFL talent, but was there OL development worth a shit? It doesn't seem like they did very well there.
