And once a week is sufficient for both.

That might be the sweet spot for this thread too. If only I had more self discipline to not take a peek. It's like I know I enjoy football less when I visit here, but I can't help myself. It's like checking twitter during the games. I have a need to wallow around in the toxic waste.

Can't wait till November once Beatty gets fired and hired by Herman.

So if Beatty takes an Assistant Head Coach title, do we make Kliff the sole OC with an assistant HC title as well? Just trying to get my ducks in a row.

i have good news and bad news.

Good news: Wilson is not interested in Aggy.

Bad news: Wilson is still solid to OSU unless Urbs is fired.

In Texas news, yes, Mehringer told Wilson he was better than all of our current receivers right now and would be a starter at Z or X from day 1. It did not have the intended effect on Wilson or his parents. Good thing for Texas that Coach Naivar is Wilson's lead recruiter and has a great relationship with Wilson and his parents. I believe in Naivar. But think we need a little help from OSU along the way and beating USC would probably open the right eyes and ears.

I would think tOSU can keep most of their class even if they fire Meyer. I mean they can promote Day and still have a staff with Kevin Wilson, Schiano, and Grinch. Urban has put together an amazing staff.

It could be. My mind was more on the thought that as much as we hope Herman is “The Guy” that he may just be the next step to finding “The Guy”.

Im not making a definitive pronouncement or anything. Just thinking about how rare it is for even major programs to hit on their next great coach so quickly.

Yeah, our athletic program culture seems to cause boom or bust with coaches. My wonder with Herman is what does our program look like with a head coach that can recruit and manage the QB room, an organized recruiting department, and an AD that supports him? There has to be something between all time great and Charlie Strong that we can all enjoy. The past 8 years haven't even been "pretty good."

I have to tell you, I hope this works out because I’m tired of shitty Texas football. But I see Herman as possibly being our modern Mackovic and Charlie was a modern McWilliams. Not personality wise as exact fits, but with with the general offensive and defensive malaise with Strong, and Herman’s clear offensive chops and hubris.

Maybe the outcome to Herman's tenure will be something we haven't experienced before.

Different circumstances. Our class was fucked because everyone knew Charlie was on his way out. Little and Chaison were the only major targets we still had a chance with after firing Strong.

Ok, so let me know which years count as "normal" and then we'll rank them and see how objectively terrible the situation is this year. Or we could not. We could just hang out for few more months and see how things shake out.

Maybe you don't remember, but 2017 was a transition class. Little and Chaison were the only ones that really stung. Most of the other guys weren't even considering us. This year we've lost Nana, Bragg, Wilson, Leal and Wright, all guys who were considered Texas leans at one point.

Dude, you obviously know your stuff. The 2017 in-state class definitely wasn't stacked at positions of need. Nope. Didn't sting at all.

So everything's fine and all we have to do is wait for aggy to aggy? It's not just about A&M. I don't remember us ever taking this many kicks to the groin in a single cycle. 2017 sucked, but we knew it would be tough after going 5-7 and firing our coach. This year we're just getting punked.

It's impressive you were able to remember all the way back to 2 years ago when things were worse. "I can't remember the last time I ate today, well except for lunch 3 hours ago."

Let's get this thread back on track. I hear that Texas pulled Wright's offer weeks ago and he basically had no choice but to commit to aggy. We've also got bigger names on our board like McCoy so Wright isn't really a loss.

Gallagher envies your ability to stick to a bit.

damn houston nutt for ruining those 37 member classes for everyone.

and wright reminds me a little bit of brennan eagles - big dude that can run that looks incredible getting off the bus but the production seems a little lower than it should be. crazy high ceiling, low floor kid.

I wouldn't worry. Jimbo has a good track record of taking highly ranked WRs and helping them not get drafted.

Herman didn't do that though. He didn't do that because he couldn't pawn Mehringer and Warehime off onto anyone else's staff, which he attempted, so he kept them and firmed up his offensive woes by adding Hand. He chose what he perceived to be the least of the evils - keep the staff in tact, help the offense, and deal with weakness at DL recruiting. Frankly, they've decided that they can help on the DL late in the cycle and with late developers that non-Giles staff members can bear hug into signatures. It worked last year. Let's see if it happens again. It fucking sucks missing on top guys though, and that's trending not only for 2019 but 2020 as well.

Do you feel like Herman gets the current landscape better than Brown and Strong? I see a lot of good organizational signs, but I totally agree with these staff criticisms. I just think for a young coach, they are totally forgivable mistakes in part because they can be fixed so easily. If Herman doesn't fix them next offseason, I'll have a bigger beef. But some on the board read your info and think responding like Veruca Salt is some sort of insightful analysis. So in that spirit, I think Herman should correct all his mistakes and maximize ever inch of the program because I have high standards.

Did someone post this on 247 or is this your opinion? Our DL recruiting is crap, but I think Catalon is ours as long as we win, with or without Carter.

It's just like every year. "These guys all want to play together." Nope. "Better player may follow lesser player." Nope.

Bill Connelly previewed A&M today: https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2018/8/6/17573446/texas-am-football-2018-preview-schedule-roster

There's enough in there to convince themselves that there's good reason if they don't impress this year, while keeping the roller coaster going up for next year.

I'm interested to see if their complex offense clicks because Ole Miss, Miss State, and Arkansas are going to put up points if you're constantly going 3 and out. And by interested, I mean interested in watching that plane crash into the side of a mountain.
