Again with this shit. I can think of lots of things worse than losing players to Notre Dame. For starters, losing to OU on the field. Losing players to OU. Having a neighbor who graduated form OU. There list goes on and on.

I agree. Doesn't move the needle for me. At least a kid that claims to value academics didn't turn around and sign with LSU.

Does it exist?  A no visit policy?  Well, if it did, it don't exist anymore.  Leal has opened the gates for all "committed" aggys now.

Pretty true. Now our staff can say, "Jimbo didn't have any issue with Leal visiting us, why shouldn't you be able to see what we have to offer? Also, free stay at the Four Seasons. Who doesn't love bathrobes."

Seeing the value of recruiting the QB position yet? It was definitely a recruiting issue - you pass on Andrew Luck and RGIII for Gilbert Godfried, Case McCoy, and a bag of Ash rocks,  then you're going to get f'ing rocked.

I love what Herman has done with QB recruiting. And we f'd up evals, development, and roster management of QBs over the past ten years.

No one's saying we don't have multiple issues. We do have a lot of problems. And just because a street has 10 potholes is no reason to ignore one say "Meh, we don't need to fix this one because shit, there's 9 others." It's easy to say we'll recruit better if we win fucking games, and it's probably true, but that that's the same kind of maddening shit that drove most of us crazy as Mack Brown under-performed here even at the height of his success after 2005. In fact, it's a pretty legitimate and logical argument to say that BECAUSE we've been an under-performing shitshow for so long, it's more important than ever to plug all the holes we have in all facets, including recruiting, because we don't have any margin for error. You want the kind of roster to get us back on the top, well, we need to recruit well everywhere.

Personally, the whole fucking attitude of fixing one thing that should help the others along is maddening to me. I don't care if we win 10 games, why don't we fucking fix ALL of it and become like Ohio State, and Alabama, instead of pontificating on how Giles will be a good recruiter again if we fucking win games. It's fucking stupid bullshit. Excel at fucking everything, or die trying.

The problem with the conversations is that they get so convoluted. There are too many points in there. I don't disagree with a lot of what you wrote, but don't ever lump me into the win 10 games crowd you fucking asshole.

As much I and others have ragged on the coaches today, talent acquisition and evaluation has absolutely been an issue for this program as well.

Do you think the instability and coaching changes torpedoes talent acquisition and evals? It's the only way to explain how other schools do more with less. Do you think Herman's staff, despite their shortcomings, is doing a better job of recruiting fits to a system than late-Mack or Charlie?

Don't muddy the water with fucking logic and facts, sir.

I don't think we're arguing different things. I'm saying we've had a lot of problems that have nothing to do with recruiting. We haven't finished the season ranked in the top 15 since 2009. The consistency of our underperformance is impressive.

You see the worst case scenario as being the second most talented team in our conference.

But what I SEE, when you say that is the absolute worst case scenario, which is being behind fucking Oklahoma at anything into perpetuity. Fuck that motherfucking cunt ass shit.

JFC, I'm making the point that we don't have a recruiting issue, and I wasn't talking about anything in perpetuity. We've out recruited OU a lot the past 8 years, and have little to show for it. I would rather beat them and win conference championships than out recruit them.

What is your interpretation of how the DL recruiting process went down?

I don't have one. I'm saying, don't say, "the reality is..." and then explain away recruiting results because they don't align with your predispositions.

The truth is somewhere in the middle.

The reality is we missed out on a lot of our top targets and were able to salvage a good class late.  A guy like Ojomo won't pop up with two months to go every year. Carson and Williams are projects. We don't get Ossai if there's no coaching change, and we were fortunate Coburn went to Westfield.

You realize this is an interpretation of reality.

Giles is a good coach, Orlando is still on the staff, and the staff overall seems to be pretty good at evaluation. I would not be surprised to see our 2018 DL class be the lynchpin of future Big 12 championship teams. But our aspirations are higher. Coached up 3-stars (although some of the guys last cycle were certainly underrated) can only do so much when we're going against teams with coached-up 5-stars.

Let's learn to crawl before we walk. And I'm not talking about an entire roster of 3-stars. I'm saying good player development makes the difference between Jackson Jeffcoat and Breckyn Hager workable.

  11. 1 minute ago, Machinator said:

Yeah, last year was fine, but we succeeded in spite of Giles, not because of him.

Hopefully our player development is better under Herman. If a few of these 3-stars turn into NFL players, I think we'll all relax a little bit.

Herman hasn’t won me over yet. This year makes or breaks him at Texas. It’s funny talking to other Texas fans. Most have drank the kool-aid as most fans do with a new coach. They want their team to win. They want this hire to be the right guy. I do too. I just haven’t seen the results and have seen some questionable decisions.

I'm one of these fans because I feel like he came in with a plan to optimize the institutional advantages at Texas. It's passive income. Plant the seed and let it grow. I don't think he's beyond reproach, though. He's made staff hiring mistakes. At some point, we need to give a coach with a good plan time, let him make mistakes, and see if he can grow into the job. I really hope Del Conte helps with this. He's seen what worked at TCU.

I don’t see any inconsistencies in there. I think they win in spite of idiocy with staff personnel on offense because of familiarity between the staff and players in year 2; a weaker conference slate; and an excellent defensive coaching staff. Likewise, I think Texas signs a great class because: they’ll win 9-11; they recruit at Texas; and there are some great recruiters on this staff and Herman has an excellent recruiting plan.

None of that changes the facts that Herman has made horrible staff decisions; didn’t read his team when he showed up; and we have some terrible recruiters.

I agree with all of this, but the fans that freak out need to consider the floor. If Texas wins 7 or 8 games and signs a 25 man class, there is no way it's ranked lower than 10-15, IMO. I think it's important to remember that our worst case scenario is having the second most talented roster in our conference.

Cade Brewer looked promising. That's all I got.

Yeah, it's weird when a late offer comes in, plays immediately, and looks like he belongs. It's like... just find 25 of those guys every year.

Gosh it's tough to have such an unethical bagman like BC on staff. aggy's right, it's really eating away at my soul supporting this kind of cheating and evil.

We should start photoshopping Brewster into all of these. You know, since he's in BC's head now.

I see us looking at Vaccaro after May 12th.  I'd like to also see what Eric Reid wants but Jerrah won't do it because he's such a big pussy on the kneeling issue...... smh.

... and just remember the lengths he went through to get Greg Hardy suited up.
