This time doesn't even seem like a social justice stance. I think these players are just saying screw this coaching staff, we're out of here. I mean how many have stayed after other games this year? (honestly don't know but I'm guessing a lot more than 1)

    About 5.

Yeah, if this was the case all season it’d suck, but it hasn’t been.

i wasn’t going to die on the eyes hill, but I’m not doing anything with texas football until this cancer is purged. To be clear, not the cancer of people expressing free speech, but all the fucking cowards that used it as an excuse to leave the field for the first time today.

Same thing happened against UTEP except it was Sam and a few other players.

There could be some truth to this.  As we move into the new era of name/likeness/image bullshit where we are heavily selling the come to UT be popular on social media, do things outside of football, enjoy the city, we are going to attract a certain type of athlete.   Recruits that go to Alabama, LSU, Goergia etc, aren't going there for any of that. They are going for the NFL draft and to an extent potentially winning a championship.

I don't think Texas gets zero of the latter group, but we certainly appear to get more of the Hayden Connors than the Donovan Jacksons. (no racist)

This is nothing new and I think there is a lot of truth in it, mostly because we've run out of reasons.  It's the only thing the football program hasn't/can't change to get out of the dumpster fire.  It has been discussed before.  Austin, Texas offers a lot of distractions.  Oh, and Longhorn Network.

So I'm not going to rewatch the TCU game, but did anyone else feel like the defense played much better after Mitchell was ejected?  Our fucking walk on with athletic limitations makes better reads, fewer penalties, and better tackling than Mitchell.  We gave up 14 points with Mitchell starting very quickly.  Once Cort got in, we held them to field goals multiple times in the redzone and seemed to play much better outside that wide open QB draw play that resulted in a TD.

I'm okay if I never see Mitchell play another snap at Texas.  He's terrible.  Time for Ford, Hullaby to grow up quick.

Didn't seem like we missed much of a beat.  I think Cort got most of his snaps in the fourth (after Dele got some time) and the only thing I see keeping him off the field is his speed compounded with playing in the B12.  Here's a play you won't see show up on the stat sheet:

I can get on board with this.  In the first half, I definitely thought the refs were out to get us.  In the second half they made a few no calls in our favor:  Jalen Green PI/hold close to the endzone and a late hit on Duggan out of bounds.  That said, the refs sucked across the board and we got the worst of it.

Yes, we got screwed, and yes, I'm quoting myself to see what you guys think about these two plays we may have gotten away with.  Both are close.  The first one looks much more like PI/holding from the replay angle compared to real-time play.  That was definitely a game changer non call as it was 3rd and 5 with a minute left before half.   The second play pissed me off because I expected it to be called given how the refs were screwing us and it displayed a lack of discipline. What say you Surly?

Guess this fits thread title...  "Win or GTFO"

Guess we still have a culture problem here.  In addition to this, Coburn was asked about Cort Jaquess in today's media availability and he said teammates were "complaining" because he was "working so hard" on the scout team.  I'm sure it was somewhat in jest but still...

The problem for Texas is that the best we can ever hope for is average refs who don't blatantly screw us over.  The refs all live in the big 12 territory.  Anyone who follows college football in this area either loves or hates UT.  They can't put UT fans out there as refs for our games so they are forced to use refs whose favorite teams are our rivals.  We have more rivals than any other team in CFB and so it's almost impossible for there to be unbiased refs against us.

How you combat this is to do what Mack did.  Befriend the refs but stay on them the whole game about calls with the tirade over the occasional egregious call.  It's no coincidence that the refs became very biased against Texas after Mack left.  That's because both Strong and Herman sit there looking dumbfounded without ever saying anything.

Good point.  IIRC, Mack also brought in officials to ref practices.

Same with mutha hustla. She was saying stuff during tech game and tcu. Her son gets no playing time so make sense why he should transfer.

Byron Vaughns is a total head scratcher.  He looks the part but somehow can't manage to make it on the field (outside of ST) in his third year with a depleted LB corps.

  9. Last year, Herman had a guy - Fernando Lovo - on the sideline to corral him in when he was mouthing off at the refs.  Saw that dude almost every game but haven't seen it this year.

I would like to believe this, but things are getting a bit ridiculous. In all honesty I can believe that Texas is subconsciously fucked over by the refs and if that's the case then we're probably deserving. Would likely have something to do with our admin being dicks all the time.

Seriously, when have you seen a clear and obvious holding penalty that clearly affected the play right at the point of attack get actually called in the Big 12 and then get waved off? That doesn't happen.

The line judge saw the hold, he called the hold immediately, and then they waved it off. That's absurd.

Leaving your feet and lunging are what leads to missed tackles.

Agree in some instances, but this was a Sergio Kindle knock your helmet off Tech type of sack that could have happened.  I don't think Duggan gets the ball off if Juwan goes for a tackle.  He loses so much momentum breaking down and approaching the QB.

What’s kind of intriguing about the defense yesterday was how many times Texas was a step too late in hitting duggan for a sack or more probable incompletion. It makes me wonder if the DBs pressed more to throw off timing, if we would have been more successful. Maybe not, but who knows

I think our guys are being coached not to leave their feet when approaching the QB, instead of lunging for a tackle.  Watch the video below carefully.  Notice how Juwan stutter steps when he's a few feet from the QB and loses momentum in the process.   WTF?  Why does he not leave his feet and lunge for the tackle?  I've seen Ossai miss a sack or two in previous games because he didn't leave his feet too.  My only explanation for this is them being coached not to leave their feet in hopes of a deflection.

well hell, can he play tackle, and guard and maybe center?

There was speculation last year he could grow into an OL.  I see it.  He's an extremely good blocker, possibly good receiver with average speed, and plenty of room to grow.   Probably could excel at both positions in college.

Unpopular opinion but I thought Sam was one of the only players on offense to play a good game.

Somewhat agree.  He played OK and this loss was far from his fault.

  15. this play sucked.  could have been a penalty on OU for blocking before catch but that's a hard one to call.  and wouldn't have made a difference.  the optimist in me says that's why Mitchell was late to the throwing lane though, he should have been scooting right earlier

Adimora get clowned in the film room after getting run down by a fucking right tackle with several blockers assisting him?
Nice pick though and great effort by the OL on the tackle.

You definitely wanted to see a pick 6 given how much space and blockers he had escorting him to the sideline.  But there's a huge silver lining - by him not making the touchdown it allowed our Offense to score and take time off the clock, leaving Tech with 40s left on their last possession before OT.  Blessing in disguise and not exactly something I would coach.

BTW, Chris has a seemingly odd stride I can quite put my finger on.  Not exactly fluid.  Looks like a rampage of sorts, almost like an RB.  His acceleration after the catch was impressive.
