I reported it stolen to the police. They took pretty detailed information and said the detectives will probably want the security video and screenshots of all conversations, which I will happily provide to them.

I doubt I ever see the package or the money again. I also kind of doubt she will actually see any legal consequences because she can deny it. When she is shown on camera holding it, she can claim it's a different package since the video is not high enough resolution to show the label. Regarding the person selling the items on Facebook, she can deny knowing her or giving her those items. I sort of doubt the police will devote much time to pursuing it, but at least if they make her life miserable for a period of time and she gets fired from her property management job, that's some form of retribution.

I will have my wife talk to the online retailer to see if they will do anything, and it was purchase on a Chase Sapphire Reserve card which also has theft protection, so maybe one of those will be helpful for getting some money back.

Maybe nothing happens. But Karen the Thief is probably shitting bricks and will for a while. So IMO it's worth the effort to report her.

this thread is as good as any to put this...

we are on the way to Vegas/California from Denver and today drove west across CO and Utah on i70 with my driving stint starting after lunch in Grand Junction. driving across CO was a piece of cake, our first time on the western slope, very scenic, but...

HOLY SHIT i was COMPLETELY unprepared for the Utah leg of the drive.😲

i mean...just holy holy holy shit. Utah has officially taken my breath away. literally, and multiple times. for the first time EVER in my entire life i had an anxiety/vertigo/panic attack, a stretch of what felt like 80 miles or so, starting just west of Green River...i came thisclose to having to pull over. speed limit is 80(!) and i slowed down at one point to <60. an absolutely surreal landscape on all sides as far as the eye could see...at one point it felt like we were  surrounded by deep giant canyons on all sides and i swear to god i was fighting not to drive right off the side!!

i had to focus on my breathing and attach my eyes to the trailer hitch of the vehicle in front of us and just could not even glance offroad...but my eyes felt like they were being pulled to the horizon! i felt like i was literally going to just yank the wheel off the interstate, and that feeling in turn caused near panic...this was that long stretch where there is nothing...like all the signs say 'seriously - there is nothing for the next 100 miles'.

nothing but my god the landscape. 😲

i mean seriously, i have driven over huge bridges, the Makinac and Golden Gate, been through RMNP countless times as both driver and rider, to the top of Mt. Evans, Sandia Peak, have ridden in a car AND a bike down Haleakala...i have NEVER felt like i felt today! incredible. 😳

i have never seen such jaw-dropping scenery...and we just barely drove by/skirted the NPs! i love the Rocky Mountains and Colorado is so beautiful...but Utah blew it away today. i have seen so many pictures, i follow several National Park accounts...but nothing prepared me for what i saw today. just wow wow wow.

i cannot wait to actually visit some of the parks. i see you, Utah! 👀

I drove with family from Phoenix to SLC via Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon. I had that same kind of amazement/vertigo type sensation. We were switching out drivers every 30 minutes because everyone had that same discomfort.

  3. I have a medium-sized 1-year-old puppy in good health. He was however bit by another dog randomly last week and I ended up with a $1,500 vet bill for stitches. I looked at getting pet insurance a year ago but decided against it as he was young and healthy. Dumb move. Anyhow, I want to get insurance for the future and there are dozens of companies and I don't know the quality of one versus another. Any recommendations are appreciated.

this goddamn practice of teasing customer with a discount/coupon, that apparently excludes every product on earth.

i returned an amazon.com package to kohls (rather than dropping it off with a shipper), and they gave me a 20% off coupon.  cool.  turns out, it aint valid on shit.

buying something from saks fifth avenue, which says 10% off the first order.  here's the exclusion list:

Rage for sure. But what could you possibly be buying at Saks? Weird ass store.

  5. That shit happened to me, except it was my work iPhone. A little after 4am-ish stumbling back to hotel after a night out, and some innocent seeming dudes came dancing up to us. 7 seconds later I realized my phone was gone.
I was only a third year law firm associate at the time, but my firm remote wiped the phone and sent me a new one the next day. Can’t let a single billable hour potentially go to waste…
I was in Zurich years ago and spilled a beer on the firm MacBook. The partner I mostly worked for laughed on the phone and said to get a new one there on them. Derp.
  6. I'm at 48 countries, most solo, and typing from Australia at the moment. Half or so were Europe, the rest South America and Asia. I could easily retire in BA eventually. The top of my bucket list is parts of Africa, Beirut, Cairo, and India.

The wildest yet most rewarding place so far was Port-au-Prince after its earthquake in January 2010. I drove from the DR where I lived in a Uhaul type truck with medical supplies three days after the quake. It was eerily calm yet pure chaos at the same time. I also went six months before the quake to volunteer for a week and really enjoyed PAP. Watch Conan O'Brien's remotes from Haiti in 2018 and you'll see it was a really vibrant and fascinating place with wonderful people that has since tragically descended into the abyss.

  7. Don't have vapes at school.
pretty simple to understand, but then the handwringing over arrests and shit.  Meh.  They know they aren't supposed to have it just like we knew we weren't supposed to have booze.
That's just one of the (questionable) laws that brings idiots to light for their stupidity.  Don't bring vapes to school is pretty straight forward, no?  Even with full legalization, it's not going to change the schools equation, especially with regard to minors.
I guess we just have different views on the acceptable amount of government involvement in our lives.

Texas high schoolers caught with legal delta 8 vape pens sold at gas stations are getting arrested because the cops can't determine whether the juice contains the legal or illegal form of THC. When in doubt about whether a teenager's conduct is even illegal, I reckon it's always best to arrest them, suspend them from school, and generally try to fuck up their lives with a felony charge. Possible cause is the new probable cause in Texas.

I got so ragey just now reading that. I wish prominent people with big social media followings would post stories like this with the names and photos of the petty officials involved so that at least there's some public shaming that might deter others.
