6 months ago we were all celebrating a staff of elite recruiters. It’s not like this program is in the gutter we won the sugar bowl 3 years ago and we’re 7-3 last year. We’ve started putting players in the NFL again. Now we have big news about the SEC. Where our recruiting is makes absolutely no sense. I do get the feeling that Sark is a bit too laid back with recruiting. He needs to be to know how to close. Our alumni base and AD need to figure out how to get these dudes paid ASAP. We are going to need to buy our way into being a competitive program like UGA, aggy, Clemson, Oregon. It’s clear that the Texas brand really doesn’t mean that much right now with everyone negative recruiting us and us hiring a twice failed head coach. I really hope Sark works out because he has flamed out in big fashion at his previous stops. We also need to figure out a bag game and NIL deals some. This program cannot afford to have another shitty recruiting class after the dud we put together last year.
Preach on, brother

Appreciate the info. Helpful. Seems like there is more to it though as that update would not be anything that “couldn’t be shared now”, assuming maninblack knows something (which I think he does). Coupled with a CTJ post in the recruiting thread it seems there is.

From OB
Not the best update to start off on a Friday, but I'm hearing Trevell Johnson was back on the Texas Tech campus this week. That makes the third visit to Tech for Johnson in the past two months. Obviously, this one isn't trending particularly well for Texas and it's a situation we'll be monitoring very closely.
I've tried to reach out to Trevell this week to see if he's coming to Austin for the pool party, but he's gone silent on me, which isn't the norm. Sometimes those small things can be signs as well.- 1

The Trevell Johnson news has not hit here yet? I am starting to believe our staff (coaching/support/administration wise) on the recruiting front has some fundamental problems that can’t be fixed.
too much keeps happening to believe otherwise
-
All fair criticism of the wheeled one, but on this day can we remember him for his roll (pun intended) in helping move Texas out of the 12 to SEC?

If I have this correct, since the announcement on Wednesday of the move to SEC:
decommitment of Jaylon Guilbeau
Denver Harris and Perkins decide to skip Austin for college station pool party
lose locked in silent commit 5 star keyonte in basketball to Baylor
missing anything?
why are our pets heads falling off?

It’s pretty simple. Good news = they know what they are talking about. Bad news = they don’t know shit

Doesn’t seem to made it in this thread yet but news breaking in multiple places that it is Baylor for Keyonte.
very strange considering all that has transpired with months of confidence. A one and done person probably doesn’t care about conference affiliation, but as discussed Beards bag game should not be taking a back seat to Baylor.
-
Lot of confidence in this thread re Anderson which I will gladly consume. But someone feel free to explain why Aggy keeps winning the last visit award. Pool party weekend - Texas followed by aggy; visit in the fall for a game - Texas opening game followed by subsequent game in college station (per obloods). Typically not a favorable data point.

Something is off here. How is there not a 2000 word post on why Texas would never join the Sec because of some bizarre holier than thou rant that includes historical writings.

This is different because it isn't coming from the athletic program or specifically Texas boosters. Maligi and Howard have been dropping bags for years and years and have their own networks. Same with the guy who pulls the Canada players whose name I'm blanking on. So I don't think there's any takeaway from Beard's activity for football, which is also shown by the guys we're whiffing on there.
Appreciate the comments. Money has to come from somewhere, though. Presumably from someone with a vested interest in Texas being successful. No way that these coaches just up and transfer bag dropping to any school they go to.
as I write this my guess is you are talking shoe money which isn’t school specific and explains my above questions
hopes of being good in football now squashed
-
To pivot this discussion a bit, because we are in agreement that Beard is either continuing the rule bending of his predecessors or taking it to the next level, can we assume that this will be the model for football. I mean if we are truly stepping up , I have to think cdc is aware or at least signaling that he is ok being ignorant of it. If so, is this a test case for what we can and will do for the football program where it is sorely needed? Is football held on such a mantel that it is off limits for such actions? Is it a case of the proper alumni doing what they need to do in basketball but not football?
thoughts welcome

Which would complicate IT’s assertion that Anderson is concerned about talent in the class. Unless Anderson is exclusively concerned with OT or WR. Then he sort of has a point.
Forget where I picked it up - maybe an aggy site- but I thought Anderson is being sold on see the talent up front defensively which will make your job on the back end easier. Is it an easy sell on what aggy is bringing on the DL compared to Texas?

CTJ was confident on Anderson. That’s the last fact keeping me from considering him gone to A&M.
Same here, although is my memory correct that he had confidence in Banks also?

I mean…they got Hutson and Robertson, knew Sexton was out and hinted at Miller. Banks and Williams were god awful misses, but if you are waiting until they get something right, you can stop waiting.
I think it’s absolutely fair to be critical of IT. It’s a paid service ffs. But, they will always know more actual facts than you. Discerning between the facts and bullshit, and reinterpreting their predictions through the lens of a person living in reality is the game, imo. Even today, “Texas leads, but” is an indicator they’re not very confident. Just use them. They use you.
All true. I think my issue is that the Banks miss was so bad it’s hard to understand. Every other outlet (Texas and non Texas) had it correct that it wasn’t UT once he moved up the date. Those tits ignored the obvious up until the end. In that case they definitely did not know more than anyone (me included).
im not giving them shit on Williams. Everyone had that fucked including our staff most likely. On the OLs - that is a low bar for being correct. Again everyone knew what that choice was way before any announcement.
I’ll get over it, for sure, but the job they did on Banks was considerably bad. It reminded me of 3figs level reporting. In any event it gives me pause in their Anderson reporting.- 1

Something doesn’t add up with IT on Anderson and Guilbeau. You can’t have one looking around and the other with UT ahead in the recruitment. They really have no clue and/or just forgot the original bullshit they contrived about the two.

IT has shown it really doesn’t know shit based on Banks. This should be assumed until they get something correct. Hopefully Anderson is it but I don’t get the warm fuzzies when aggy gets the last word.

IT on Manning
External markets are catching up to UT being a real player for Arch Manning. Good for them.
The giant sleeping in the market said UT might make the top-five for Arch and that Inside Texas was overplaying its hand but really UT is in the top two. Imagine not knowing that. While you wait for that Futurecast prediction to Clemson, we’ll continue.
Those in charge at Texas will never count out Alabama but Clemson is the main competition.
Buzz within the player community is very favorable to Texas. Player buzz is once removed from Twitter so we only give it a cursory nod. But you’d rather have it than not.
This is one of the rare ‘all hands on deck’ recruitments and we feel strongly the right people are involved which helps UT.
You already know how Texas profiles favorably to the family. We’ve broken the that down for months. Most outlets are all, “hey, he potentially likes Texas. It’s crazy.” We’re giving you the why and that’s how UT is in position to close this thing out.
If Malachi Nelson picks OU on the heels of Levi Holstein picking A&M, it will increase pressure on Texas to land Arch. You will pee yourself a little. But as you know, the Mannings are cognizant of the importance of committing to a school early to help build the class.
If IT ever ends up in a network where predictions are a real thing our collective first one might potentially in theory go towards Arch to Texas.Does getting a qb (Levi) (Eli) name wrong diminish the credibility of the report? Probably not any lower after the Banks turd.

Carrington wanted a clear path to an on-field role. Sarkisian thought he was going to be able to bring in his bag guy and build infrastructure, and they didn't know how much they valued Carrington. They gave him an offer to stay anyway and he wanted to leave. He also quit on his fucking job and did Texas no favors during the transition. So, in any event, he can go fuck himself for the time being.
This reads as Sark is unable to implement what is necessary to compete with programs that land top players that may have a sudden “change of heart” and choose Aggy, Oregon, Georgia, etc after a visit to those schools and a meet with the built in bag man.
Does this change your previous take that we are implementing a type 2 recruiting infrastructure that you described?

All this talk about aggy cheating is fine and dandy.
The real issue as I understand it that payment to players is essentially legal now with NIL. Fine. bring it out in the open. Establish once on campus x type of player should see y amount of money.
Presumably (I hope) we match or exceed what aggy bama or any other SEC team pays. I will say that out of the gate I am concerned that we may not take full advantage the new environment and continue to try to win with one hand tied behind our back. Seems like we are pretty much fucked with the 22 class. Maybe we get our ass in gear for 23.
One thing seems clear though that payments will continue to kids not yet on campus, ie high-school recruits. Payments for visits. Payments for signatures. I have little doubt this is where Texas will continue to get beat up on the recruiting field.
Will the 5 star or other top talented kids wait to get the money once they step on campus (at Texas) or will we continue to lose kids that can get the money early and then again when they step on campus ( at a school other than Texas?
