  1. My last trip to Paris was 4 nights in Paris followed by 3 nights in Blois this past April.  In Paris, because it was over the Marathon Weekend, my favorite hotel was booked, so I rented an AirBnB.  It was absolutely fantastic. The only downside was it was on the 2nd floor (3rd floor in United States parlance) with no Elevator, and I had a number of large bags as I was traveling for work right before.

In Blois, I stayed at Fleur de Loire, a 5 start hotel and spa with a 2 Michelin Star restaurant by Christophe Hay. I visited Chateau Chambord and the one in Blois (after Chambord, the other fell flat), and basically just relaxed most of the time. I want to revisit the Loire Valley when I have longer.  But if you are looking, I highly recommend Fleur de Loire.  It was great.

So we're thinking of an October France trip and I'm favoring 5 days in Paris and 3 days somewhere else in France that's smaller but close enough to get back in time to fly out.

My wife thinks 5 days in Paris is too much (bear in mind she's been twice without me, first time for me).  I can't imagine 5 days is nearly enough time in one of the worlds greatest cities.

Anyone want to make recommendations on anything in particular?  @PenelopeWitherspoon?  We don't really have a budget but I'm not spending $3k a night on a hotel that we'll be using to sleep and shower and that's it.

I think 5 days in Paris, if you have been there before, is fine.  But if it is your first time, I think that is not enough time.  I would stay in Paris the whole time and take 2 or 3 day trips.  Then you have more time in Paris, but get to see other things as well.  Also, you lose time traveling.

With that being said, and something I did not know on my last trip, you HAVE to go to Notre Dame.  And it now requires a reservation unless you want to wait in a massive queue (I chose not to knowing I would be back in Paris soon).

If you are doing Notre Dame, you should hit up Sainte Chapelle as well.  There is a great restaurant right near Notre Dame (Les Deux Colombes) where I have whiled away a few hours with a bottle of wine.

For hotels, my go to is Le Roch Hotel & Spa in the 1st, though I want to stay in Hotel Marquis Faubourg Saint-Honore (in the 8th but just...right where Rue Saint-Honore flips from the 1st to the 8th) and Voltire (also on Rue St. Roch near the first hotel).

I have a lot of other recs, but I need to sit down with them.

To those with Pride parades, did your cities seem to have more secondary/tertiary “grievances” like Gaza and ICE movements? Curious. Chicago just had theirs and it seemed like they saved most of it for the end of the parade.

New York's is today, but I didn't go. Had work calls closing a deal. 😢

Goldman and Nadler should do this better… go in there with a fucking swat team surrounding them and force their way in, get arrested if they have to.

Being politely denied access by some goon in a Guinness shirt doesn’t make you look strong.  Fucking Democrats

Which SWAT team? NYPD? Given that they all live in Staten Island and largely vote Republican, good fucking luck.

Video of the exchange is on the second frame.

That is my Governor. Hochul, Pritzker, and Walz did a great job. Hochul isn't perfect, but she is so much better than Cuomo. And she absolutely has been standing up to Trump since Day 1. He keeps wanting to fuck with New York, and at least our state officials are telling him where to stick it. It is too bad that Eric Adams is a selfish coward. So glad he has a snowballs chance in hell of being re-elected.  Now if we can just kick Cuomo to the curb as well.

Great article from New York Magazine about how truly fucked we are if we have to go to war.  Playing Secretary:  As war looms, Pete Hegseth’s Pentagon is beset by infighting over leaks, drugs, and socks. How long will Trump stand by his man?

The article (https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/defense-secretary-pete-hegseth-pentagon-leaks-signalgate-trump.html) is paywalled, but here is the free link: https://archive.is/xG4FF

Personally, I often have trouble determining who in this administration is the biggest dipshit.  It keeps me up at night.  Noem, RFK Jr., Linda McMahon, Bondi, Lutnick, Gabbard?  I'm getting cold sweats just thinking about it now.  Well, after reading this, you win the award today Pete Hegseth.  Congrats, but for those others that are now trailing, there's always tomorrow.

Hegseth is by far the worst of a shitty cast of incompetance that is the Trump cabinet. He never should have been confirmed, and if we go to war, which this bullshit between Israel and Iran might mean we do end up doing so, will mean that American blood will be on the hands of every Senator who voted to confirm (all but three Republicans plus JD Vance).

But I will say Noem, Lutnick, Biondi, RFK Jr., Tulsi Gabbard, and Kash Patel are also absolutely horrific choices as well. Gross.

Maybe start communicating with Democrats in Congress that millions of Americans were ready to fight tyranny on June 14th and they need to get the message and start becoming a very vocal opposition force. Call out the media for not covering this regime truthfully. Call out all of the trump unconstitutional bullshit. Look to muck it up for Republicans at every possible opportunity. But it needs to be very visible and very vocal. Be the leadership this country can rally behind. Stop treating this like politics and start fighting for the American people.

Democrat politicians have just come off so fake, cowardly, and regimented in the face of this attack on our way of life and government.

Because in the end this country will need people to vote for to get these fascists out. And people to fight tooth and nail to make sure we get that opportunity to vote fairly.

I believe a lot of the Democrats in Congress were out protesting with folks. I know in NYC, Schumer was at the Brooklyn protest (which I understand was absolutely massive as well...the one I was at was only ONE march in Manhattan.  There were multiple events in the city).
