Shit, that was outstanding.

I have compassion for him, and I get that he was undeniably angry. However, trying to incite other to violence, and committing violence yourself, makes you no better than the 4 cops who took George Floyd's life.Yeahg, I'm drawing the line at having any semblence of compassion for the molatov cocktail duo.
Protest all you want, practice peaceful civil disobedience, but violence and vandalism only detracts from the cause.-

Suggest starting this at 8:15 for some perspective.
Taking the NY Post article at face value, those two face 5-20 years for damaging police property. There is a significant chance they serve more time than the officers that stood by and watched George Floyd be murdered on video. At the very least, you can be 100% sure that the system isn’t working for those two right now in the same way it is for the George Floyd’s murderer and his accomplices. You do realize that these two did not just send Molotov Cocktails into the police car, right? They were actively trying to get protesters involved and were trying to pass these out (no one took them). What they attempted feels like incitement.

I am still trying to figure out the Molotov-Cocktail throwing lawyers' motive. Definitely not right wing folks.

I think this gets to the heart of the argument.
Are too high a percentage of Americans too stupid or ignorant for democracy?
I agree with you that they should be able to run opinion labeled as opinion from pretty much whomever and it's the responsibility of the people to be intelligent enough to decide what is obviously not in the best interest of themselves and the country.
Unfortunately the brainwashing of the republican party on unsuspecting idiots in vast numbers begs to question if now too many Americans are too dumb and if the institutions have to switch to saving America from American stupidity. Which of course is not democratic at all.
This is an interesting very difficult issue.
Unfortunately, you know the answer. Yes, a high percentage of Americans are too stupid or ignorant for democracy.

As a white person, I have been the victim of crime but never called 911. My wife has never called 911. My parents have never called 911. This is a recent phenomena of fucking wierdos who expect a third party to fix situations that make them uncomfortable or angry. If a person feels like they are disrespected in a store they call the cops. If a store owner gets into a disagreement with a customer they call the cops. This isnt about race. Its about regards. Regards have decided that cops are umpires and they summon them to mediate disputes. This has some awful consequences.
This times 1 million.
The only times I have called the cops willingly were either when my car was broken into, my apartment was broken into, or this one time, in Houston, when I heard an alarm going off (sounded like a fire alarm), but could not identify the source. I called the non-emergency number, told them what I heard, that I did not see or smell smoke, and could they come investigate. Come to find out, my back neighbor had a shed where he had some old fire alarms from when he replaced them in the house, and the batteries were dying, so they were going off. It was all very nice, but I was worried someone could be incapaciated or having an emergency. I have had plenty of disputes with people, but I either remove myself from the situation or try and deescalate it.

Goyard. And I think your phrase is Je suis ___________. Suis is the connation of the first person singular (Je, or I in Englsh) for the irregular verb être (i.e. to be).
So basically, Je suis reine translates into I am queen.
Nous sommes Surly. We are Surly.

I stand with women who can wear lululemon. I have respect for women who can't and therefore don't wear lululemon. Nature's balance.
I just do not like their stuff, and find the quality for the $$ lacking.
I like Define your Inspiration (Houston brand) and Sweaty Betty.

And now for the comment. Even if EVERYTHING Svetlana said is true, why the fuck would you call the cops? I mean, just go somewhere else?

AHHH, NO CR Penelope!
In all seriousness, I would expect 150mm Americans to vote this November, surpassing the previous total by 10mm.
But there's a big reason I don't think that's gonna happen. and again, no CR you fucking morons.
75% of polling station volunteers are over 65 years of age. They're rightfully concerned about their health by spending hours a day in tight quarters at the start of flu/Covid season.
We're just not gonna have as many polling stations operating this time around.
Then perhaps we all need to volunteer. Might be a good way to get involved.

I mean, they're literally marching in the streets to protest injustice, but sure lol
Let's see if this translates to voter turnout in November. It should, but I have a bad feeling it won't.

My issue with the looting isn't because I've heard the media talk about it (tonight was the first time I watched anything, and it was pretty even toned). I was constantly awakened by sirens and phone alerts when shit was going down near me, until I finally gave it up and got up at 5.1. Because I worked from like 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. And the NYPD isn't going to arrest my peacefully protesting white ass unless I literally club one in the face. Using my privilege to advance the rights of minorities and all of that jazz.
2. It's nothing but awareness, in my opinion. Suburban white people pay attention to people in the streets. My 60 year old mother in rural Texas posted a black square on her Instagram today (something I didn't know she knew how to do). She sure as shit hasn't done anything even that small in response to the hundreds of other black people innocently killed by police officers. I've been donating to the ACLU, Campaign Zero, BLM, etc. for years, and nothing changes. And, frankly, given factors that we aren't allowed to discuss in this forum, things likely will not change this time around either. But at least voices will be heard.
3. To be clear, I wish the looting weren't happening. It clearly distracts from the cause. But not worth the disproportionate attention it's receiving from the media and bystanders in my opinion.
Further, I detest theft and vandalism. I always have. Been victim to it too many times, so it leaves a real bad taste in my mouth. This especially does because this is my neighborhood, and it is frustrating.
Oh, so you have work hours like me.
Awareness is fine, but change has to come. Awareness is not enough anymore.-

Some do. Some don't. After the shit Sunday and Monday night, I think it is in the best interest of the protests, and it will really keep the message on point, to limit it to the hours allowed under the curfew (i.e. head home at 8PM).Just spitballing here, but maybe some of them actually have jobs?
Then have large, well organized, peaceful marches (we are seeing thousands and tens of thousands, but I think NYC could get it much larger) on the weekends.
-
Why not protest during the day? Why do it at night when the legitimate peaceful protests provide cover to these roving criminal groups (less than the last two nights due to closing off Manhattan, but still happening).Due respect and all that. Spending post after post decrying looting because your neighborhood got hit by idiots last night is, to me, counterproductive and contributing to the problem. Crying about crumbs on the table while your house is on fire.
We're just fine down here in the village. Our lower floor windows are boarded up as a precautionary measure, but we and many others were out peacefully protesting the real, systemic issues well past 8pm. And will continue to do so. The looters and agitators are a minuscule percentage of the people taking to the streets, and do not deserve to receive the lion's share of the attention.
I'm very concerned that this shit sets us back with reopening, which will make the anger and suffering worse in the city.
And how exactly are these protests going to result in REAL change? This is the part that seems a lot less organized, similar to the yellow vest protests. There should be better organization, but there is not.
-
Sorry. My sarcasm/everything else reader is broken at the moment.Yeah exactly. Did you not read my last few posts? It’s mostly manufactured bullshit. I got into a fruitless pissing match with someone saying NYC and DC are terrible places to own a business because of this, shitting on it as a place to live and apparently you can get a 2+2 with private garden for $400k...so it’s just as good as bumfuck Dakota. I’m on your side here.

Stop with the taxing out of state workers shit. That is how things work in states with income taxes. I had to pay state taxes in tons of states when I was a consultant. You’re missing the narrative of how NYC is a shithole. See the covid thread regarding taxing out of state healthcare workers, sending ill people back to nursing homes, etc.And the nursing home shit was a state decision and I believe a few others did it.

The curfew here was at 8 pm. They are still out. The peaceful protests are giving cover to looters/crime.No curfew?
