  1. So what about people who actually rent/own homes in the CHAZ or have businesses in the CHAZ? Seems like if I'm one of those people, I'm pretty pissed about the CHAZ.

This too.  And as to the answer on accessibility, I confess that my experience is just in Austin....but it's available at numerous relatively central hubs, many of them along public transportation routes.  In other words, even for people who aren't white suburban professionals, there's a lot of access.  Granted, it used to also be at several grocery stores, and I THINK the state banned that (not sure exactly -- something happened), and that should definitely come back.  The one place most people go in a given week is the nearby HEB etc.  A mobile voting center in the parking lot of most grocery stores should be a no-brainer.

I remember a few years ago, one was set up at the HEB at 620 and 2222.  For some reason, I was out that way and needed to stop in the store.  I did, saw the trailer in the parking lot, swung in and voted while I was there, and headed home.  It literally put voting on par with picking up a gallon of milk in terms of difficulty.  It should be that way everywhere, all the time.

    Agreed, especially your last paragraph.

That being said, there are a ton of people, that even if we make it that easy, they will not do it.  How do we get people engaged and interested in understanding the candidates, the issues, and then making an informed decision?

Seriously, people in this country know more about what is happening with the Kardashians than they do in the halls of power.

I agree. The article should have. It also should point out that Texas' percentage of tests positive number is going up fast meaning the uptick in cases probably isn't just a function of more testing. It's a bad, low effort article.

Feel free to post that data.

Even if you don't buy the data on cases, Houston has had a massive spike in hospital admits. They could be in trouble. Click bait article headline but the article and the politicians aren't wrong in the notion that Houston has a problem.

Then why not point to the hospitalization numbers rather than positive cases?  Also, I think there needs to be more focus on demographics of those hospitalized.  Are they all of a certain age group?  Are they folks with pre-existing conditions?

Again, rather than calling for mass lockdowns, there should be something more pointed.  Use the fucking data.  Don't just freak out and shut everything back down.

Stacey Abrams really should use her organization within Georgia to push the message about Early Voting. Really shouldn’t have to come to that result if the early period started May 18th.

I do not understand why more people do not take advantage of early voting.  This happened in Houston in 2018 as well.

By that logic, and this is not a shot at you but rather the prescription for alleged prevention;   why not make masks mandatory and open shit right the fuck up?

If people are throwing social distancing to the wind( lolz) and the risk is still minimal, then WTF?

This is my opinion.  We don't have spikes due to the mass protests in NYC, there is ZERO excuse to keep shit closed.

I posted this Bloomberg article in the non politics thread.  Now, I am going to comment here.  From Lina Hidalgo herself:

    Quote

“We may be approaching the precipice of a disaster,” said Hidalgo, the highest-ranking county executive. “It’s out of hand right now. The good news is it’s not severe out of hand.”

I believe that Hidalgo and Turner are playing politics (and Hidalgo is using hyperbole), and I feel that certain politicians have lost sight of what the lockdowns were meant to do (EASE PRESSURE ON HOSPITALS).  You are not going to STOP this fucking virus.  Further, it seems like a part of the jump in cases yesterday (312 total), was because of a backlog in data (or at least per what I saw the City of Houston announce).

I had a bad feeling about Lina when she was elected.  Glad to see she is proving me right.

  8. Never heard of this story of Elijah McClain. 23 yr old black man killed by Aurora Police a few months ago while walking home. Dude would spent his free time playing music for homeless kittens.
Video of part of the incident is below. One of the cops is caught on camera telling another cop to cover their body camera. Nobody charged, nobody suspended, all officers still on the job.

More attention needs to be given to this.
  9. Add San Marcos. They did a great job. Everyone was respectful. A quick march, great speakers, mixed crowd. Ended with live music from local artists. Very impressive. Went with my 18 year old daughter and a good friend.
Temple, Killeen, and Belton I believe all had them as well.
