Indeed. Granted I don’t have the calendar memorized. Also, don’t take my. Moment to mean I won’t enjoy a golf oompah or big band night when my kid isn’t 6.
I hear ya. Played there many times back in the day. Nice hall.

Just checked out the new Dale Watson album on Spotify. I'd read good reviews of it, but it is not what I was expecting at all, very acoustic, blues oriented. Digging the hell out of it actually, nice change of pace for Dale.

E Hogan addresses upcoming changes
Listening to it now, no announcement on personnel (still working through it apparently), just talking about financial and signal issues

No, it was a rockabilly band or something…
KILLBILLY
Killbilly was a Dallas, Texas-based band active from 1987 to 1994, which described its music as being a mixture of bluegrass and punk.[1]Critics have variously described the band's style as a "fusion of bluegrass and shred metal",[2] and as "a genuine bluegrass band playing straight, fast and loud."[1]The Dallas Observer's Robert Wilonsky described the band as "irreplaceable" and their breakup in 1994 as the "end of an era".[3]
KillbillyOrigin Dallas, Texas Genres Bluegrass music, punk rock Years active 1987–1994 Labels Flying Fish Records, Crystal Clear Records Past members Alan Wooley, Craig "Niteman" Taylor, Stephen Trued, Harris "Stealth" Kirby, Richard Hunter, Michael Schwedler, Rhett Miller, Murry Hammond, Mark Rubin, Danny Barnes ”Ranchero Brothers” are Murry & Rhett playing (acoustic) guitars and singing without Ken & Philip. They do they own songs and covers and I think that Murry gets to sing lead on more than 20% of the songs.
Killbilly was kind of a precursor to the Bad Livers (Danny Barnes, Mark Rubin, Ralph White), good friends with Mark even though he is living in New Orleans now, did some session work with him for the Newton Boys soundtrack, good guy

Missing my brother something fierce lately, he introduced me to the Old 97s and actually was a roadie for them. In fact, the last song on Drag 'Em Up (No Mother) describes his death, how is that for a pepper upper? Regardless, I appreciate Rhett and all the guys for doing that, it meant more to my mom and me than they will ever know, even though I can't bring myself to listen to it without totally losing it, so I don't.
I still love the band though and they have brought me a lot of joy, so for Joel, let's fuckin' rock this joint. Alcohol may have been involved in this post.

Grabbed a bunch of LPs in an online auction the other night, run by an antique place three blocks from my house so went and picked them up this morning. Except for the Monkees (expected) everything else was VG to Mint, just a few light scuffs on a couple. $52 including auction fee and sales tax, not bad. Got most for $1, I think the highest was the McCartney Russian album, paid $6 for that. Got into a bidding war for a copy of the Xanadu soundtrack (don't @me, I'm a huge ELO fan...), price got up to $10 so I bailed. Got outbid on lots of others but nothing I couldn't live without...
The John Denver and Manilow are for my wife, btw

Can confirm on the Catholic side. I grew up in very white (like literally 99% White in my county) very small, and very German Catholic town in rural north Iowa. While we did get our share of awful Midwestern jello salads, the main course was always some kind of excellent pork product. In the summer it was always brats and kraut with plenty of cold beer, and in the fall or winter it was always roasters full of smoked pork loin. From what I could tell in neighboring towns, the Lutherans were far more apt to have some kind of mush casserole be the center piece.
The next county over had a lot of Czech communities, and their Catholic events were always centered on brats, jaeternice and potatoes, and kolaches.
May-Oct is prime church picnic time here in CenTex. Played a picnic in Ammannsville on Father’s Day, at the end they were selling leftover fried chicken (huge pieces) for a dollar apiece and a gallon baggie full of smoked sausage for 5 bucks just to get rid of it…

I watched the first few minutes, got bored, moved the slider over to around 7 minutes, and she was repeating the same thing like a broken record- about how he consistently and continuously ignored border laws or whatever.
And I am sure that was verbatim - because "he consistently and continuously ignored border laws or whatever".

Has the Fairfield Lake debacle been discussed here? My FIL is a huge outdoorsman and has been following this pretty closely. Keep in mind, he's a pretty staunch GOP'er and my MIL watches Fox News quite religiously (or did until my wife started pushing back on Fox's lies to her parents directly) and will vote Republican no matter who is on the ballot. He hates Paxton but still voted for him because the Dem candidate wasn't "qualified" in his mind. Ridiculous.
At any rate, according to FIL the state had myriad chances to buy this property in the past but Abbott fiddle-farted around and a Dallas-based family developer purchased the property for $100M+. Realizing his mistake, Abbott is now taking the property via imminent domain. Looks like the state has offered $25M to the family.
I post merely because this appears to be another black eye on Abbott/GOP "leadership" in this state.
