Water broke just before midnight. We went to the hospital, they checked and admitted her about 130a Thursday morning, epidural at 7a, baby came at 126p. Visitors started showing up around 3p thru 9p. Wife was exhausted and sleeping. Baby has reflux so I was trying to stay awake to keep an eye on him, but around 1a I had been up for 41 hrs straight and couldn't stay awake anymore so they came and took him to the nursery until my wife woke up. I passed out on the little couch. Woke up about 11a on Day 2 and left for a bit to go get my paycheck and put it in the bank (Friday) and didn't feel like driving an hour to get home and then come back. Grabbed some take out and went back to the hospital. They released us Saturday morning.

Wife had on a hospital gown and that's it. I had on regular clothes - jeans, shirt, etc. You don't touch nothing disgusting - even cutting the cord. Baby comes out all slimy and is dropped on mama while they start wiping it clean, then you cut the cord and they take it give it a bath and you go watch and listen as they show you how to do it. Then they wrap it up like a burrito and give it to you and you take it to mama who has been cleaned up.

Unless your wife has a history of running marathons on a broken leg, tell her to get the epidural early. My wife - who has a low pain tolerance - decided she wanted to wait and see if she could handle it with the first kid (water broke but contractions hadn't started yet, kid came 6 days early). It was rough holding her still when contractions were hitting so they could get it in. On the second kid, she told them to send the epidural guy in as soon as we got to the room (scheduled inducement, kid was 6 days late). And a thing new dads can forget - while your wife will have a bag packed for her and the baby, make sure to have one for you too. I was in the hospital with wife and baby for 2 days wearing the same clothes because I didn't think to bring anything besides a phone charger.

I'm ask my wife tonight if he's still taking it and why not if he isn't. My son's current teacher is very Type A in control of her classroom and once her and my son understood each other it got much better. Rarely ever hear anything from her about his behavior except for the time he decided to show someone his butt in class (he likes being the class clown).

I have two perspectives - first, I have a 10yo son who got diagnosed with ADHD and was often in trouble for disrupting class or not doing what he was supposed to be doing (despite being smart as hell and always getting good grades on tests), and second, my wife is a special education teacher (AISD) who usually only works with those with more pronounced issues but is knowledgeable about the allowances they give those on the disability plan. We made the decision last year (3rd grade - started at age 8 and turned 9 during the year) to start him on Ritalin or whatever the equivalent is. It helped a bit, then they increased the dosage and it's helped a lot more. I wasn't sure I wanted to go this way despite my wife, his teacher, and the counselor thinking it was a good idea. Like you, I didn't want to medicate for what I saw as normal kid behavior, especially for someone in the higher IQ range for his age and was probably bored at times. I was the same way as a kid and would probably have been recommended to be medicated if it had been popular then. We had a conference and I quite bluntly asked, "Are we doing this because it will help him, or because it will help the teacher deal with him?" I didn't want to do it if the answer was the latter, but everyone (including my wife) said it would help him focus better and I can see it has. He's 10 now and isn't taking it nearly as much (if at all) anymore and I think his 4th grade teacher has adapted to suit him and it has made a difference. We had several meetings at the beginning of the year about his behavior and upped the dosage then, but I don't think he's taking anything now and his teacher isn't contacting us all the time either. And we just found out she's going to be his 5th Grade teacher next year so that will be good. It doesn't sound like your son's "disability" is severe enough to need services from the Special Education department, but if y'all do have ARDs or anything you might ask about things that can be done to help like maybe having a TA in the classroom that can quietly help keep him focused (as well as help the teacher with other stuff). If he's really smart and might just be bored, perhaps talk to the teacher about giving him challenges (that aren't graded) that he can work on while others finish their work. My son's teacher has don't that - challenges - and he likes being able to do something the others can't do (yet).

The worst part is that the tiger was hungry again 30 minutes later.

"Babe, haven't you seen the news about all the layoffs? Nobody is hiring. Gimme $40 for smokes."

You don't own a screwdriver or anything? Unclog you're own vacuum. I don't know how many times I've pulled crayons, small toy pieces, etc out of our Dyson.

My niece's husband - the sole breadwinner in a family with 4 kids 8 and below - claims 6 on his W2. Then doesn't understand why his tax refund is so low. I've tried to explain multiple times but he thinks he's beating the system because he gets more each paycheck. That would be good if he actually put it in the bank and earned interest but since he spends it on stupid shit throughout the year, he has nothing to help with that expensive car repair that inevitably comes up.

Platypuses/platypi (there is a debate over which term to use) provide milk to their pups, but they don't have nipples. They secrete the milk thru their skin and the babies lick it off. -
I (aged about 11) was at a garage sale with my mom and told her to look at a brooch (rhyming with cooch). And my parents like to entertain my wife with stories about the time I was giving them a tour of school during a 1st grade Back-To-School night and showed them the teachers' lunge.

Wife tried to cut my 8yo daughters' bangs. They are crooked, uneven, too short, etc. Her: Well, I think they look cheek. Me: Cheek? Her: Wait, what did you say? Me: Did you say they look 'cheek'? Her: Yeah. Me: Do you mean chic? Her: (realizing she said something stupid) ooooohhhh. You're going to post this on your site, aren't you?

Not to be a Debbie Downer or to see things that aren't there, but have you thought of having an evaluation for Autism or one of the lighter versions of it? My wife is a special education teacher dealing with Kindergarten down to 3yos. I had her read your description and she didn't necessarily think 'autism' but thinks maybe an evaluation might help. Autistic kids - from high functioning to severe - take comfort in familiarity: familiar surroundings, familiar people, familiar routines, etc. Moving into an unfamiliar place or around unfamiliar people (even people they've met before but aren't around a lot) can cause major meltdowns. It helps to really about the unfamiliar event multiple times over the few days before so they can get comfortable with the idea. Again, not saying this is what's going on with your kid, but you might want to think about it if it continues or gets worse.

My wife is reporting golf ball sized hail near Burnet/183/Steck/Mopac, clearing up now. When I asked her how big the hail was she said "about half a baseball". Me: "so like a golf ball?" Her: "oh yeah, like a golf ball".

Angie Harmon's dog shot and killed by Instacart driver

Just saw this thread. As some of y'all know, I work in delivery for Amazon, Target (via Shipt), and UberEats - among others. Some perspective I gleaned from the story: - the driver was getting fired regardless just because he had a gun with him. That's a big no-no across all platforms. An Amazon driver shot a homeless guy who attacked him with a knife and even got stabbed, but was still fired. - the fact that he got to the door, delivered the food, then shot the dog after means that either the dog didn't get out until the driver was going back to the car or wasn't perceived as a threat. It also means the guy had his gun on him during the delivery because if he had to go back to the car then he could have just gotten in the car to get away from the dog. - her comment about the delivery guy not matching the driver shown in the app is very common. Too many people who don't qualify (illegal, felonies, etc) or deactivated (from past bad conduct as a driver) will sign up their wife, gf, sister, friend, cousin, whomever and continue to work under their name. I see it all the time and every once in a while the companies start purging and putting in verification steps. I personally hate having to take a damn selfie every time I show up, especially if I was just there 3 hours earlier. Or having to scan my ID. Unless you have a physical person standing there to verify you are you, most of the security checkpoints can be gotten around somehow through dishonest techniques. Even a physical person can't stop all fraud, as the gf will just show up to pick up the order, then switch cars with the bf and he goes and delivers while she goes home. - anyone who has done this for any length of time can get a pretty good feel about whether a dog is just putting on a show of aggression or is actually a threat. A lot of dogs will bark and growl as you move towards the door and immediately shut up when you turn to go back to your car. Just this morning I was delivering at about 430a in the countryside outside Lockhart and got out of the car to get a package from the back only to be surprised to see a large black lab standing right next to me. Luckily he was very friendly and didn't bark or anything. But I've had times where I've tossed the package out the window at their gate, too. A couple days ago a small dog got out when the customer opened the door to get the box before I got back to my vehicle, but it was just excited to be out and run around and I helped chase it to get it back in the house. - I don't think there was any reason to shoot the dog unless it actually tried to bite you. If you want to get your gun out and be ready, then fine, but don't pull that trigger until you're under direct attack. This wasn't a pit mix where you might not have the luxury of hesitation. Looks like a German Shepherd or mix thereof. Was probably barking like crazy, running towards you (but not to you) but was wagging its tail the entire time. Btw - why would Angie not have hard-wired security cameras? But then, she does videos of putting on makeup while a squirrel crawls all over her, so who knows? -
She's doing it on purpose to get new purses.

Oh, and pick up a 6pk of pre-mixed formula just in case. Our son seemed to do fine initially at the hospital, but then had latching problems at home and wasn't getting enough. We were released on a Saturday and didn't see the pediatrician until Monday and he lost 2lbs in that time. Doc immediately got a bottle of formula and he ended up on formula the rest of the way. Never could latch properly and wife's production dropped quickly. Better to have some and not need it than to need it and not have it. You can donate it if you end up not needing it.

One thing I always tell people expecting a first kid (or any kid, I guess) is stock up on diapers now. CVS had a thing (not sure if they still do) with their CVS Bucks that every once in a while they're would be a sale where spending $30 on baby stuff would give you $10 in CVS Bucks. So I'd but three $10 bags of diapers in various sizes then use the free $10 to get a 4th bag. I bought every size from 1 to 4 multiple times. Only got 1 back of NB (up to 10lbs) because my wife had blood sugar issues and there was a risk of a big baby. Boy came out at 7lbs so we had to pick up a couple packs of NBs until he fit the 1s, but we didn't buy diapers again until he was 7mo old. Those baby item sales at CVS are also a good time to pick up bottles of baby powder, bags of wipes, baby lotion, bath soap/shampoo, etc. Then get your free bag of diapers.
