Another big factor is his family has been through the MLB process with his older brother being a 2nd rounder out of high school and having a cup of coffee in the show. His family will understand better than anybody the grind of the major leagues and trying to make it past those arbitration years if you do make it.
More front offices are looking to sign their top prospects to long-term extensions early which provides both parties financial certainty.

Which, to believe Bobby and Gerry, is likely football, since they both declare is why he chose the Horns. But a whole lot can change in a couple of years. Like someone posted upthread, it's good to have options.

Soto just got a similar deal like 2 months ago
Vlad didn't do too badly, either.

Miami? Haha. Guess he got a shit ton of money.
He's been under the Lucas family tutelage since he was a kid, so I'm sure the money is there but that's not the primary reason.

I disagree Baseball is at a fork in the road, they got out of their ESPN agreement and who knows what their future is, they make around 2 billion a year now while the NBA makes 7 and NFL makes 11.
It is entirely possible that the Ohtani contract was the absolute last of its kind and teams will start to roll back average player contracts.
His post-athletic career quality of life will be exponentially better if he chooses baseball when he turns professional. And he'll likely have a longer life if he chooses baseball. There are studies on this.

I think it is too.

Thanks for posting that. He had unnatural lateral quickness. It always cracked me up when he would seemingly disappear behind his line and then burst free out of nowhere, and then he'd run downfield with crazy dangerous ball "protection". He was just so damn fast it didn't hardly matter.
Sayers, Sanders and Father and Son Metcalf. That's the roll call.

Such a great pickup, high volume receiver at a position of need. I like the potential of Washington, and the early word on Winston is positive, but a veteran guy with a productive track record is so important in Sarkisian’s offense. Arch’s new best friend.
Yep. He's not as athletic as Helm but he demonstrates glue hands under any circumstances. Arch's safety valve.

How I loathe and despise the Dodgers. Way to go Rangers!

If the kid is as good at football as he is at baseball he could potentially play both at the next level. Because he is fast and hits the shit out of the ball.

This kid is a stud!

I grew up in Marin. People like USC and Oregon football on TV and care about Cal - Stanford but in high school the Drake - Redwood water polo game under the lights was a bigger deal than most of the football games. Suburban Californians don't want their kids getting CTE.
It's been a while since I lived out there but things were heading in that direction even 30 years ago.

I think it's an advertising play - letting everyone know he's available for a scholarship offer
Good luck to him. If he can get playing time at a smaller program with a respected academic/grad reputation he'll be in great shape. Maybe Cal? I hear they're looking for a RB. Jk

Wasnt Brenon Thompson OU's top WR at some point last year? Not bothering to look up sooner stats
He's a guy that if he was still here would be in the way on the depth chart. We've come a long way from the Casey Cain days
I don't think he's done jack shit at OU.

He’s a great receiver prospect. I wonder if this is a big enough impact player for Sark to be done at the position.
If a speedster that has been productive enters the portal Sark will be all over him. We are thin on experience at WR.
