how much time do you have

Hell if I know. You're the one from the future...but seriously, if it is in response to something I said, I would like to know. Always down to get a different perspective. Just shoot it in a PM, so we don't fuck this thread anymore than it already is.

Not really sure what your problem is. Thought his approach was rational and then made a joke about a long time community member with a low post count because of the forum change that apparently didn't land. Gold jacket, green jacket, who gives a shit.

Offense scored 41 points last year with a shitty o-line. I feel pretty good with what we have going into our first game, more mature O-Line, QB, Receivers and RB's.

Defense gave up 51 points and I don't think they will shit the bed THAT bad again.

Honest question: Did you watch the game? Off the top of my head, I think there were 3 defense/special teams scores.

Maybe, but more key is that their focus is heavily on computational linguistics (understandably), which (while she’s demonstrated some knack for it) isn’t her thing.

I’m trying to walk a fine line so as not to pressure her or amp up her anxiety, but also making sure she has some good - and affordable - options on front of her.

Honestly, my gut tells me she’ll end up at Edinburgh or McGill, but it’s early yet. We’ll visit McGill in October, and we’ll see.

Not sure if this was mentioned up thread or not, but why October? You'd be better served having her go in late November or early December. It can be nice that time of year (October) and won't give her a real feel for what she's getting herself into. If the school scheduled the info session for that time frame, I get it (also clearly calculated on their part), but if not, I'd suggest letting her feel the full force of winter. They can be brutal (got my masters at Michigan). That said, I enjoyed my time up there.

I waffle on whether to be upset with our lack of recruits (or the missing out on certain recruits, Leal, Wilson, etc.) and having an "all is well" attitude.  Realistically, I know that this class isn't done and what happens to finish out this class is going to define it.  I do like the base and I like where we are being able to take 10-12 more commits.

I just hope the season matters to some of these guys and that if we kick some ass on the field some minds are going to change.  I don't think I can go through another disappointing season regardless of how it affects recruiting so I won't even go there.

What's with this reasoned and logical approach...fucking new guys...

    Jesus.

    After first ~56 plate appearances:
    Player A: .157 BA, .259 OBP, .216 SLG, .474 OBP, 11 Ks
    Player B: .135 BA, .196 OBP, .173 SLG, .370 OBP, 14 Ks

(Hint: player B’s trade value is now higher than it was after those first 56 PAs)

Know the answer is Bregman, but thought I'd look up Mike Trout's numbers from his first call up: 7 for 43 with 1 HR and 6 RBI. Agree that we should probably let the guy get a few more ABs first before making any definitive statements. Also wanted to compare him to Ted Williams' first call up...but that guy started 1939 in the majors and won the MVP. Maybe we should pump the brakes all the way around.

Eric Cuffee is going to play up to his junior tape any day now.

Just like Taylor Bible. I'm not saying I'm happy with how things look on the lines, but it is probably the toughest position to evaluate at this age. Some kids physically develop much quicker than others. Some kids never see anyone else their size and can't handle the challenge of physical parity. I'd really like to see an analysis (to lazy to do it, so don't ask me) about how much movement there is in position group rankings between Junior and Senior years. I imagine the lines should show the greatest movement (save a few physical freaks) due to physical changes, but would guess rankings don't change too much due to analysts anchoring to their original evals.

I read that the Meyers were involved in the Smiths' counseling and it appeared they were pretty involved with them and the situation and trying to help them.  Smith was with Urban for a long time so I would think they had a fairly deep relationship.  You have the Earle Bruce connection.  Meyer is not an idiot.  He knew what the PR implications were of leaving Smith on his staff in the face of these domestic violence issues.  He stuck his neck out for the guy.  We'll find out more about why he did it, but he might have thought the allegations were not as serious as they are being taken by the public or he though Smith was worth the risk either as a coach or a person or both.

No, but he is a megalomaniac.

That's a fair point.  I don't know that it comes from a God complex necessarily.  I don't like being questioned or called on the carpet either.  No one does.  Still, yes, he did make it worse.

Texas Forever: Clear eyes. Full heart. Can't lose.

Ohio Forever: Red eyes. Full denial. Can't bruise.

  10. Just get a Chromecast for each one. Set a game to a particular device from the ESPN app on your phone and then close the app. Re-open the app and connect to a different the next device until complete. In my experience, the game will continue to stream when you close the app. The only issue you'll have is a need to reconnect to each device to override the stream, so it doesn't continue to stream indefinitely. It's even easier if you can use a iPad or buddy's phone to stream one of the games, so you can bounce around games a little.

Jesus dude, don't grovel like that. Just say teenagers do dumb shit sometimes. It has the benefit of being true.

After reading that I felt the same way about his fiance's choice as I did about Dylan Wright's choice: why the fuck would he do that? (not a typo - nttawwt)

E.J. Holland: My final thoughts on the Dylan Wright situation

      Reveal hidden contents

    — Sorry I was out yesterday evening and didn't get a chance to respond to World War III. It was the my fiance and I's third anniversary of being together, so I was trying to spend the night with her.

    — We were wrong about Wright. There is no other way around. I feel like we've done really well this cycle with guys like Jake Smith (first to put in a CB), Javonne Shepherd (nobody believed me when I said he would show up to Heat Wave), Chris Adimora (first to put in a CB), etc. But of course, we've had our misses as well with Wright, Williams & Richardson.

    — We can only report what we know. That's what I've always told Mike, who was the first person to ever write about Wright. He had a close relationship with the family, and they continuously told him that they were going to wait until January. Nothing you can do about that. They also told their 7v7 group that they would be waiting until January, and even they were surprised with the timing. This is something that the Wright family kept between themselves.

    — And yes, that means Texas was caught off guard as well. Wright did not inform the UT staff of his decision prior to dropping the video. I'm sure you can tell who a lot of my sources are, so just know there was confidence in where Texas stood with right, and everyone had reason to believe he would stay patient with the process, see the season out and make his decision in January.

    — So why did things change so drastically with Leal, Williams, Richardson and Wright. Each recruitment is different, but I think it's safe to say Texas finished second in all those recruitments. Obviously, that's not what you want to hear, but it's true. And the staff did everything it could. A&M and Jimbo are really doing a great job this cycle and the newness gives them a boost just like it did with Texas last cycle. In Leal's recruitment, Texas won his mom but didn't do enough with Leal. In Richardson's recruitment, he pulled off a visit high. Just to give you a behind the scenes nugget, he tried to visit Texas on multiple occasions early in the spring, but his father wanted him to honor his word. Wright's father was a Texas fan and is Jason Washington's relative. But again, each kid made their own decision.

    — Recruiting is hard to predict. Again, you can only report what you know. It's clear Texas had reason to feel good with a lot of these kids, but they need to seal the deal. We, as reporters, need to do a better job of utilizing sources away from the program. And I promise we will do that moving forward. I don't travel and hit the road as much as I do to be wrong and look like an ass. I had a lengthy conversation with Mike, and we are going to do our best to be better. I can't guarantee we'll hit on every kid, but I can guarantee that we'll be better. Trust me, both Mike and I are just as upset/disappointed at ourselves as y'all are with us right now.

    — The best part of my job is seeing these kids go from no offers to finding their future home. I am so happy for guys like Dylan Wright, Jeff Carter, Theo Wease, etc. — guys I knew when they weren't on fans' radars. Even when a recruit picks a school other than Texas, I hope y'all can support their decisions.

I didn't think I could think any less of EJ. I was wrong.

I got this email a few mins ago. I have no idea how many tickets I got -- if any. Tried to order six so my wife and I could sit with my parents (dad is UT grad who will be at his first TX-OU game) and my aunt and uncle (who attended OU). What a PITA.

I knew something was up when I had a pending credit of $280 on my credit card this weekend. Looks like I'll only be getting 2 of the 4 I requested this year.

Higgins has been proving all spring and summer that he's a stud WR. He's a clear take for Stanford, Florida, and Texas, and might be a take for Ohio State.

His junior hudl looks just ok, but he played injured all last year. He also ran a 4.50 40 at the Opening Finals.

Ok. Lots of schools will take McCoy as a receiver as well (us included). Doesn't mean he wouldn't be better at LB. Think the two players are the same in that regard. Just my observation.

  15. Higgins is a poor man's Bru McCoy. He could be a solid starting WR, but he'd probably be 1st All Big 12 if he'd play linebacker. Similar thing with the tweener WR/TE from Fort Worth that A&M was looking at earlier. I think there's plenty of LB talent in state, but it doesn't want to play LB.
