Was listening to NPR driving home and they had a story of reaction around the world. Many leaders are blaming the U.S. for everything. These are the same leaders who either never sent troops, or pulled them out 5 years ago. But yes, it's all our fault.

Obama & Trump inherited this clusterfuck & kicked the can down the road. We knew at some point we were going to have to rip the bandaid off but no one wanted to take the heat. Not a fan of Biden but he's going to take the brunt of this when there are so many people that should held accountable for probably the biggest blunder in U.S. history. I still contend that the Bush/Cheney admin was the worst in modern American history & we will continue to pay for their mistakes for the foreseeable future.

Trump does nothing for four years on Afghanistan other than talk about leaving, which emboldened the Taliban. He leaves office after accomplishing zero. Now Biden has to clean up the mess, and because the Democrats are such horrible communicators, everyone is going to blame him for the Afghan government implosion that has been all but certain for years. Sigh.

Trump got bipartisan backlash for his proposed withdrawal. There is no anti-war party in America.

"Eddie Murphy: Delirious begins with the exhortation “Faggots are not allowed to look at my ass while I am onstage.” This gets an applause break. It is a joke in and of itself. What follows are four minutes of exhaustive detail about everything that is gross about gay men. He declares that he has nightmares about gay people; he does impressions of popular celebrities, imagining how ridiculous it would be if they were gay. He expresses concern that his girlfriend will “carry AIDS home with her” after a tennis date with a gay man."

Maybe we shouldn't use American taxpayer money to fund Chinese scientists to go stick q-tips up bat's asses in caves with no oversight and bring all there samples back to labs with lax safety procedures surrounded by major population centers.  Just maybe.  If that's too political for you, you have brain damage.

Parsimony, but the vaccine thread isn't an appropriate place to discuss it.

I would absolutely state it openly, as I have on here in the past and am doing now, but no one outside of here would give a shit.

Didn't mean to muck up or hijack the thread. I'll go fuck off now.

The topic wasn't even whether there was a lab leak. He said "[s]eems like there was an incentive against therapeutic to obtain emergency authorization for a vaccine." To which I replied "[t]here wasn't though. Stop repeating bullshit." In response to this, he brings up pressure against scientists with lab leak theories?

    That's troll shit.

Stipulation of the EUA is that there is no adequate alternative.

Anyone issuing a "medical opinion the virus was created in a lab" is a quack.

First of all, it's an epidemiological question, not a medical one.

Second of all, there is no way to tell conclusively if it was made in a lab, or by nature. It's not like there's a fucking instruction manual in the box.

For the record, I've thought it was a Chinese lab leak the whole time, but you'll never be able to tell the difference conclusively between lab modified and natural. That doesn't leave any signals behind that couldn't also have a natural explanation.

What lead you to believe it was leaked from a Chinese lab? Would you state that opinion publicly?

There wasn't, though. Stop repeating bullshit.

When physicians have to self-censor their medical opinion out of fear of backlash that is pushback. Not long ago if you had the medical opinion the virus was created in lab your reputation & career could possibly be on the line.

Who gives a fuck about what social media does?

Medical treatments aren't developed on Facebook.  They are developed in lab and clinical settlings, by professionals.  You could silence all talk of chemotherapy cancer treatment on FB, it wouldn't make a lick of difference to the fact that 1) medical professionals are developing them, and 2) they are disseminating the proper treatment protocols for them and using them.  And there's NO blocking of that.

And by they way, the REASON that social media is blocking SOME of the invermectin talk is exactly what I pointed out: it is being touted as an alternative to a PROVEN method of reducing COVID cases/harm (vaccines).  "Don't get vaccinated, invermectin cures COVID!" is a terrible, damaging, dangerous, and FALSE message.  Shit, even if it HELPS with COVID recovery (like Tamiflu helps with the flu), it is not a replacement for prevention.

Again, there's no blocking of discussion of actual, valid therapeutics.  There's no blocking of studies on various potential  therapeutics.

Post a valid study of invermectin in a clinical setting, and I'll bet you dollars to donuts no major social media outlet will block that post.

Seems like there was an incentive against therapeutics to obtain emergency authorization for a vaccine. I get it. We need everyone vaccinated. But to pretend like there isn't pushback against therapeutics is being obtuse. Once again, it's a decision between a physician & patient. I know a pulmonogist & professor who said she's used ivermectin & it works on the margins. Not a miracle cure. Seems to work for some people & in certain situations. In classic American fashion therapeutics are now a binary political position. This country sucks.

Because they usually have to be administered in hospitals/health care facilities.  Which can't spare the space/personnel right now.

They're doing fascinating stuff with robotic prosthetics for amputees.  But the best treatment is not to lose your arm in the first place.

Nurses don't know what else to do right now but plead with people to just not engage in anything dangerous for the next few weeks because they can't help anybody due to the overwhelming influx of Covid-19 patients with delta and no vaxx

It just seems like an odd thing to have a strong political opinion on. It's a decision made between a physician & patient.

Ask yourself what may be potential factors associated with an antiparasitic agent pinging effectiveness in poorly executed studies implemented in third world countries. There is a big fucking confounder here.

Why is there so much pushback on therapeutics?

While you are correct, I'll just go ahead and say I'm glad Carlin just went with the broadly accepted, almost accurate language when crafting the joke.

"And now here's Tom with the weather."

    Bill Hicks - Wikipedia

Yes, I know that's Bill Hicks, not George Carlin.  I'm referring to the weather quote.

    Look ma, no edits!

I wonder how Carlin, Hicks, or even Patrice would critique where we're at today.

That appears to be where we are heading, not just in the housing market, but with wages not keeping up while cost of living continues to rise, and the push by a certain party to limit or eliminate needed regulations that help the working classes.

One of the best things for the working class and working Americans would be to untie healthcare with employment, unfortunately BOTH parties are against this. I miss this version of AOC:

Clearly the liberal MSM would suppress this valuable study and it would only then be found on your Facebook feed posted by 25-30 or so of your Facebook friends. Many valuable comments would then ensue.

The 'MSM' isn't liberal. I enjoyed fb while in college, however I'm not a boomer & thus use other social media apps.

If someone came out with a bulletproof study that said masks were of little use would it make the light of day? Would the author(s) be labeled right wing & have their careers put in jeopardy for putting out this hypothetical study?
