That tweet is very difficult for me to understand.

The gist is the QB everyone hated and saw as an unbearable limitation on Shanahan's brilliance is maybe the only thing that has kept him employed.  I know he's a Longhorn, but Shanahan is so overrated as an NFL HC.

I was thinking the same thing.  It’s an obvious NFL QB vs. a guy who is impotent against college defenses.  Not even a contest.

Ewers extremely relaxed in the pocket while Card immediately shits his pants once he says his first read covered.

Dear god we still hand wringing on this huh. We all knew this was a 7-5 8-4 season.  Due to youth and talent.  I just wanted to see us dominate someone who we should dominate and if the starters stayed in we we’re gonna put up 65 plus easily.  We were never going to compete against Bama. Just physical development alone. Our guys look like freshman year even our giants  you guys bitching and complaining are the ones thinking we had 10 wins in us lol

I think seven wins is a good barometer for the minimum level of acceptable success for the season with neutral luck/injuries.  Eight wins would be great.

These stats are taken so out of context it's hilarious.

    1) A good chunk of ULM's yards occurred at the end of the game when Texas was playing 4th stringers/walk ons.

    2) The Texas offense didn't gain 400 yards because the starters played 2.5 quarters.

Texas had around 200 yards at halftime - what is your excuse for that?  I wouldn’t trust this offense to find much success against good defenses

I agree the defense did play fairly well overall, but with how bad that unit was last season I’m not going to be skeptical until they show some effectiveness against an offense. that’s worth a shit.

  5. What is the deal with the Rockies?  I know the GM has only been there this season, but why would you promote him from within the org?  What about the Colorado Rockies screams we need to hang on to our own talent and not try to find talent from outside the org?  Is the owner retarded?

Did it with Urquidy->Martinez->Maton for nearly 8 which is far from our optimal rollout. Doubleheader wore us down a bit. Wait until they see our final form…

Props to Urquidy, pitched his ass off.

Urquidy has looked fine since they dropped the new cutter in favor of his old slider.  Nothing glamorous but he should be a solid backend starter moving forward.

Also, Seth Martinez is maybe the most interesting pitcher on the Astros roster.  Has the lowest xwOBA of any pitcher but has pretty mediocre peripherals.  Can't decide if he's for real or not but he should definitely receive regular work.  It's going to be tough keeping Dusty from running Neris and Montero into the ground before the post-season.

  7. Melendez is destroying AA over the past month at only 20 while allegedly sitting in the mid 90s.

By the beginning of next season the Astros could have three TOR prospects ready for the majors in Brown, Whitley, and Melendez.

  8. Maybe a silver lining of across the board institutional failure is that our military is becoming more and more hollowed out.

    Quote

“This is the start of a long drought for military recruiting,” said Ret. Lt. Gen. Thomas Spoehr of the Heritage Foundation, a think tank. He said the military has not had such a hard time signing recruits since 1973, the year the U.S. left Vietnam and the draft officially ended. Spoehr said he does not believe a revival of the draft is imminent, but “2022 is the year we question the sustainability of the all-volunteer force.”

The pool of those eligible to join the military continues to shrink, with more young men and women than ever disqualified for obesity, drug use or criminal records. Last month, Army Chief of Staff Gen. James McConville testified before Congress that only 23% of Americans ages 17-24 are qualified to serve without a waiver to join, down from 29% in recent years.

An internal Defense Department survey obtained by NBC News found that only 9% of those young Americans eligible to serve in the military had any inclination to do so, the lowest number since 2007.

  9. Sounds like WV v. EPA is coming down tomorrow?  As horrible as Dobbs is, I think that's the case that pretty much ends this country's ability to compete globally and all but resigns our future to the third world.  An admin with a spine would ignore the ruling and bring this thing to a head now, but we all know that's not going to happen.
