A new BSL‑4-level pathogens lab in the city where this outbreak started? That seems a little odd...
    https://www.nature.com/news/inside-the-chinese-lab-poised-to-study-world-s-most-dangerous-pathogens-1.21487

The Wuhan lab cost 300 million yuan (US$44 million), and to allay safety concerns it was built far above the flood plain and with the capacity to withstand a magnitude-7 earthquake, although the area has no history of strong earthquakes. It will focus on the control of emerging diseases, store purified viruses and act as a World Health Organization ‘reference laboratory’ linked to similar labs around the world. “It will be a key node in the global biosafety-lab network,” says lab director Yuan Zhiming.
Future plans include studying the pathogen that causes SARS, which also doesn’t require a BSL-4 lab, before moving on to Ebola and the West African Lassa virus, which do. Some one million Chinese people work in Africa; the country needs to be ready for any eventuality, says Yuan. “Viruses don’t know borders.”

There is at BSL4 at UTMB that works on Ebola. I always thought that was a weird place to put a BSL4 with hurricanes and such. But then I realized that because it’s an island it would be pretty easy to contain by shutting down the bridges. Bottom line is you BOI you might DOI.

  2. I posted this one in another thread. Found it tucked behind an old picture frame that I salvaged from a box being thrown out after my Grandfather’s death. It’s in pretty bad shape but cool to have.

  3. I saw him play at The Backyard (original one) in the 90’s. I bought a long sleeve mechanic’s shirt with his record label sewn into the pocket. I think it said ‘LukaPop Records.” Some lucky shopper at Goodwill ended up with it. Still makes me sad I got rid of it.

He played a few nights in Marfa a couple of years ago.

  4. I guess the Randalls in Tarrytown finally stopped selling then... O'Henry kids stopped buying maybe?
I did really like that Randall's when I lived in that neighborhood as I could be in and out in far less time than the HEB.

Their fried chicken at the deli is pretty damn good.
