Took a look at their 247 boards and there were multiple posters saying they should go after Cristobal like they had any shot in hell. They're such a good rival for aggy.
Well they are like the 12th best program in the SEC, which equates to about 4th best in the country.

Michigan's in-state talent isn't great, but they at least have some, unlike Nebraska. They also have better access to Ohio, PA, and the east coast. The only population center in the vicinity of Nebraska is Kansas City with just over 2 million, roughly the size of San Antonio. Michigan obviously has elite academics, which most 5 stars don't really care about, but there is a subset of recruits who take it into account. I don't think either job is great, but Michigan actually has some things to work with. Nebraska has nothing besides history, which is probably the least important to 17 year-olds.

I hate to say it, but if we can't get Urban Meyer, then we need to be really careful. There is no point in replacing Tom Herman with another Tom Herman or a Charlie Strong. In my thinking, there is only one man on the list, and his name is Urban Meyer.
The truth is there are only a handful of elite coaches in the country. Cristobal appears to have Oregon back on track and recruits like a motherfucker, but I'd like to see him do it for another year or two. Matt Campbell has produced roughly the same results as Herman with far less resources, but he's never proven he can be elite (and probably never will at ISU). Franklin and Fleck are not worth making a change for. I can't see us going the G5 route again with Fickell. I think it's Herman or Urban next season.

Tom Herman

I've wanted Cristobal (after Urban) from the beginning. But would he even come here with the re$ources he has at Oregon?

He's done

We still looked like shit for the most part. OL still sucks, receivers still suck, corners still suck. Had OSU taken care of the ball they would've beaten us by 3 scores. We may win this shitty conference after all (probably not though), but we'll never be elite under Herman. 4 years in and we don't look any better than we did in 2017.

It sucks Herman never had a Kyler or Tua or Burrow to propel him.
Yeah, a 4 year starter isn't enough to beat the likes of Max Duggan and Spencer Rattler; only the best QB in the country could pull that off.

I think it’s a given that we would win with Meyer. But is it worth selling our souls.
When he decides to quit or gets fired over sanctions in 3-4 years will we be in any better position than we are right now?
I don’t know who the right guy is for this program but I throw up in my mouth a little bit thinking about seeing Urban Meyer in burnt orange on the sidelines. There is no other option. The program is teetering right now. If we miss on this hire, we're fucked for another decade. Possibly for good.

Cristobal, assuming his entire "operation" comes with him.

Couple of pages of Surly shitting on a kid based for basically no reason that we can confirm....
Seriously. A 6 page thread because a teenager changed some pictures on social media? If you're reading this Jake (hopefully you're not), this is the extreme fringe of the fanbase. Most of us want to see you and the team play well.. just hold onto the ball.

You fucks clamoring for Urban Meyer deserve to be kicked right in the dick. Not only no, but fuck no. Wait until someone with some fucking integrity becomes available.
Fuck off with the puritan bullshit.

Herman lost me today. I really thought he was the guy when we hired him. Even after losing to Maryland twice, going 8-5 in a season in which we were supposed to contend for the conference/playoffs, and last week's shitstorm, I still held out hope. Wishful thinking on my part. At this point, it's painfully obvious that he's at best an average coach. There are just too many data points to ignore. If the higher ups actually give a shit about winning, we'll cut bait and hire Urban.

The fact that they felt they had to run hurry up in order to get into the end zone on 1st and goal from the 1 says it all. Pitiful.

DL is really what it comes down to for me. I want sacks and domination. All I really see is guys being blocked.
They were getting pretty good pressure most of the game. It's hard to get sacks when the QB can immediately throw to an open WR.

Iowa State averaged 7.6 yards per carry and 9.2 yards per pass against TCU's defense.
Iowa State averaged 4.4 yards per carry and 4.1 yards per pass against Louisiana.
So you're saying we need to hire Louisiana's DC?

you don't have to worry about QB1 on that front.
Yurcich was in Lubbock.
Damn.

We're vulnerable up the seam. It was noticeable even against UTEP. Needs to get fixed fast.

One of, if not the best, games we'll see this season, and they're just completely dejected.

Is Riley Mark Helfrich? I'm starting to think so.

yea youre never going to see a suh type of dl player in the big12 ever again
texas faces low 3 star / 2 star/ unraked dl for the entire conference schedule
So we'll just end up like OU if we ever make it to the playoff?

I think everyone here agrees with that.
The issue is that Hand clearly panicked and began following and offering players that simply do not fit the framework of the jumbo athlete that this staff has identified in the past. So not only was he not targeting the type of athletes that we have had a lot of success identifying and signing - he was actually taking numbers away from them for guys that would never play a down at Texas. Guys that didn't fit the physical profile that Herman/Chang/McKnight favor.
Until this year that is 100% true but Hand has absolutely reached and shown interest in guys that would never see the field here and should at-best be considered PWO spots. Hence, everyone here being gunshy about another private school OT. It's not about that kid specifically it's about Hand's flailing. It's not a secret. It's also clear that the rest of the staff was not thrilled with Hand's targets, note that Yurcich has involved himself directly with OL recruiting now.
While it certainly sucks that Hand wasn't able to land at least one of Brockermeyer/Byrd/Fatheree, Lengyel and Merril fit the profile of athletic kids with room to fill out. I see why we prioritized them over lumbering guys like Erick Cade and Cole Carson. I know everyone hated the Lengyel offer because he was a low 3 star and had "too much sunshine" or some stupid shit, but he's now an 85 composite. Him and Merril look very similar to me. And both play 6A, so the private school thing is irrelevant. Again, I'd much rather have one of Brockermeyer/Byrd/Fatheree, but I can see what the staff is looking at. And Hand (or any other staff member) isn't making any offers without Herman signing off.
