Here are our top 5 returning players from defense last year in TFL per game, with their 2020 numbers (TFL per game):

    Overshown - .80

    Coburn - .45

    Sweat - .40

    Thompson - .30

    Ojomo - .25

Here's the same group, same stats in 2021:

    Overshown - .56, a 30% drop off

    Coburn - .11, a 76% drop off

    Sweat - .06, an 85% drop off

    Thompson - .13, a 56% drop off

    Ojomo - .22, a 12% drop off

Man these guys got a lot less talented this year.  We just need to recruit better.

We have more than enough talent on the D-line. It was arguably the biggest strength of the team last season, and now they suck. Coordinators suck. Position coaches suck. S&C sucks. Scheme doesn't fit the personnel. Coaching staff doesn't fit with each other. It's almost like the whole thing is being run by a drunk.

Dude we have a lot of the same players as last year and all of them except Bijan look worse under Sark. Casey Thompson's straight up looked BETTER than Sam when he came in during the second half of the bowl game last season. Now he looks like trash and I'm not even sure we make a bowl game this season. We fired Herman after a 3 loss season because we thought we should be blowing everyone out.  Now that Herman's gone, it's unfair to expect the new guy to not GET blown out every other game while having basically the same roster. Without COVID canceling cupcakes Herman would have gone 10-3 last year.

It was the same thing with Strong. Strong gets here and all a sudden the cupboard is empty and seemingly unfillable. No guys getting drafted, team getting blown out regularly etc.. Then Herman comes along and WOW we have a few standouts, and the team isnt getting run off the field anymore. We weren't lighting the world on fire but we could compete. Herman leaves and oh no! We suck again!

On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being Charlie Strong and 10 being Nick Saban, Herman was about a 5. Sark is somewhere between a 2 and a 3.

Can you image keeping him if we lose to Isu?  Thankfully that won’t happen.

What won't happen? Us losing to ISU, or keeping Sark if we do?

It'll never happen, but I would love it if TPTB came to terms with their terrible decision and shitcanned him after (or during) the season. Traylor or Fickell would at least breathe some semblance of hope into the program. We know what we have with Sark; those of us who didn't drink the koolaid knew it from the moment he was hired. Maybe they'll get it right in 2024.

If Sark can't get this thing going I don't know if anybody can who isn't some genius.

Sark is a veteran who knows what he is doing with a proven track record. If he fails that is a huge indictment on us, not him. I mean unless he falls off the wagon or something.

But hey get to the Big 12 title game and get another shot at those Okie fuckers. Get those linemen in the weight room.

Sark hasn't proven jack shit as a head coach.

No, that personnel was offensive and defensive lines that are worlds better than ours. That doesn’t change overnight. Skill position wise we can compete with anyone in the country. Our lines and our D are average at best. This ain’t on Sark. Y’all are knee jerking, when after 10 years, you should’ve learned some patience with a head coach in game 6 and at 4-2 (2-1) losing to our biggest rival in a close game who happens to be a top 5 team. Y’all are retarded with the Sark criticism. This shit happens to every coach particularly in their first year.

There is more than enough talent on the D-line to not be this shitty. They were great against the run down the stretch last season, now they suck ass. That falls squarely on Bo Davis, PK, and ultimately Sark.

There was no reason to ever defend Charlie Strong. As bad as Tom Herman was, he was light centuries better than Charlie Strong.

Charlie Strong deserves very bit of criticism, derision, and ridicule heaped upon him. He’s THE WORST FB HC HIRE in Texas history by a VAST margin.

But he was such a great man...

Yeah, I don’t think Sark really gives a shit about redshirts. Brooks and Conner are steaming towards a shirt burn, as they should.

Playing Charles Wright in game 4 was very curious.

I just don't see garbage time reps making that much of a difference. I'd rather us try to redshirt every O-lineman (unless there's no other option, e.g. Connor Williams). We'll wish we did 3 years from now.

As for Brooks, I don't have a problem with it; if a running back is any good (which he appears to be), it's not a smart business decision to stick around for a redshirt senior year.

Our luck, he ends up at aggy to clean up Jimbo’s next dumpster fire.

What do they owe Jimbo, $60M? They're stuck with him for another 4 years. Traylor will be long gone.

I think Herman's biggest problem was / is he's a giant dick. I think he is temperamentally unfit to be a head coach and will never succeed anywhere else. At UH he lucked into a non-P5 superstar QB and a generational DL talent (whose recruitment was a fluke) and still underachieved. I can't think of a big-time head coach who was more immature and just...a dick. It seems nobody had anything good to say about him, and who knows what went on behind the scenes? So I think that was two coaches in a row that were...maybe coordinators. At best in Herman's case. Time will tell, but when and if he gets another HC job I bet he bombs out again unless he radically alters his personality.

Orgeron did it enough to win an NC so anything's possible I guess.

Setting aside the elephant in the room, temperament is not Sark's problem. Unless he slips up in that department assholery and arrogance won't be his downfall.

Saban is a dick. Meyer is a dick. Herman's biggest problem was his shitty staff hires and dumb in-game decisions. But even despite all his fuck ups, he clearly had talent (beat OU at Houston, beat FSU in the Peach Bowl, destroyed Lamar Jackson's Louisville team, was destroying OU until turtling, and beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl). I agree he didn't have the maturity to lead a program like Texas, but his head coaching resume is way fucking more impressive than Sark's.
