Earlier this summer or spring... IT, OB, & Horns247 all did a livestream on the same Friday. The amount of viewers for the Horns247 livestream was abysmal compared to the livestreams from OB & IT that same day. It might be over for them.

    .

How long has OB been around?  I bet for OB it must be really weird to see this new IT site come in and eclipse OB in every possible way…content, quality of writing, views, benefit to the UT program…I’m probably missing some other metrics too.

He does appear to have more self awareness than Sidney and his partner CTJ. Very strong management of roster deficiencies and great in recruiting. Strong CEO presence and if he was launching a company to go public I would buy at this point. This year I think performance will exceed pro forma so I bought in.  My apprehension after transferring funds for investment is how will he deal with real time unanticipated events game day? I’m optimistic I’m getting 10 plus wins return on investment maybe 11 regular season.

This is better than cheese puns, but it’s like you’re pulling random words from investopedia and shoehorning them into your post to try and make the metaphor work.

Investing solely based on the charisma of a CEO with a decidedly unproven track record is exactly what you are taught NOT to do.  Maybe Elizabeth Holmes could win 9 games with this team with that logic?

But yes, these press conferences are refreshing because they are underscored by the outstanding roster management and culture building in the program right now.  Further, the state of our current athletic department as a whole is a sark contrast from the Herman and strong years.  Think back to 2015: you spent the entire afternoon tailgating on the unforgiving asphalt of the BB museum parking lot before watching someone nicknamed “No Contact At All” try and protect Jerrod Heard’s blindside.  We’ve come a long way.

Yeah, he’s a hometown kid. He’s going to OU, but they are sweating it hard. I have former co-workers and some in-laws who live up there. They’re already catatonic over the Nwaneri loss. They’re convinced right now that Stone is one decent NIL deal away from gone. It’s a lot of fun to watch. I think we should make a run at him just to see their reaction and drive up his price.

Since Ishbia levered up to buy a new toy to play with, doesn’t seem like Michigan State is competitive either.  Not sure what they are worried about…

This is sarcasm, right? Just to be clear

Yes.  Unless we can bill for it, then no. (Will keep NIL talk in the NIL thread in the future).

On actual recruiting, IT seems to be entertaining Jordan Ross talk with “Texas would take his commitment”, as if that was ever in doubt.  We don’t actually have a shot here and they are just driving clicks, correct?  He also projects to the same position as Simmons so seems like that would be a weird pickup.

Don't they write in appearance requirements?  While not tied to the school, you aren't going to show up a Columbus, MO Ford, if you are going to school in Austin.

Without having seen an NIL contract, this is most likely the only structure that could plausibly work:  down payment at the time of commitment with obligations to make physical appearances in Columbia that coincide with enrollment dates and milestones in the first year that would be impractical to fulfill if the player isn’t a student.  If the player cannot or will not make those appearances, all or a portion of the down payment would be repaid.

Even this is still a flimsy foundation because  as others have mentioned, anything tied to enrollment or on field performance is inducement and against current NIL rules.  This would land the actual university in hot water.  Regardless of what the legislature implemented, I don’t think Mizzou would want to see where that path leads.

And Missouri is a Right To Work State. Further complications if homeboy is trying to go work in another Right To Work State, like say Texas.

This is also important.  Two parties can put anything on paper, but some things just aren’t going to be enforceable.

And yes, nothing would stop a player from switching schools and using new NIL money to pay off any existing contractual obligations.  It seems like Mizzou is banking on inertia; that once a player and their family is paid and settled in to the idea of attending in the winter, they won’t want to go through the hassle of changing schools and having to pay anything back.

Caveat that this is all spitballing and conjecture.  Would be curious to look at these contracts to see how they’re structured.

EDIT:  And this assumes that everyone is behaving in good faith.  I’m sure these Missouri lawyers and boosters would never imply faulty legal conclusions or make official-sounding threats.  If there is one thing you can say about lawyers, you can say that they don’t push frivolous arguments.

If things stay as they are, LSU fans will be rejoicing in August.

The first day of celebration should come on Aug. 10 when five-star EDGE Colin Simmons is set to reveal his college decision. I expect a similar announcement from four-star running back Caden Durham.

I’ll cut straight to the chase; if things stay as they are, I think LSU lands both of the big prizes from Duncanville High School.

I’ve been pretty bullish on LSU and Durham for some time now, but I admit that Texas made a lot of folks sweat with Simmons after his official visit in June. OU and Texas will cause concern until they sign that NLI in the Early Signing Period, so neither recruitment will likely shut down completely. However, for now, I think the LSU staff has positioned the Tigers in the lead spot for both heading down this stretch.

Frank Wilson, Sherman Wilson, JR Belton, Jordan Arcement, John Jancek and co. have to maintain the momentum they have because NIL can change things in a split second. One good thing is LSU has done a nice job with that process in laying things out. Another positive is NIL has not been THE deciding factor with either recruitment up to this point.

Durham’s unofficial visit to LSU the weekend after his official visit to Oklahoma is where my confidence level went up even more. He brought his brother, who like most of their family is part of Sooner Nation. He had seen everything OU had to offer. The LSU visit made a strong impression on him and all those positive vibes were relayed back to his dad’s side in Oklahoma.

It was obvious LSU had been sitting high for the nation’s No. 9 running back before that trip. Having more than just his mom and grandparents rave about LSU, including someone from behind enemy lines, was a big vote of confidence if he chose Baton Rouge over home. This latest trip for Durham and his mother looks like the final stamp of approval.

This latest visit was obviously big for Simmons in several ways, one being it gave him a chance to compare what he saw at Texas in late June to LSU last weekend. Until that trip to Austin, most felt LSU had a sizable lead for the previous nine months.

The NIL side of things concerns me a little more with Simmons based off some of the unconfirmed numbers I’ve heard tossed around and how bad Texas wants to keep him away from LSU.

*** The way things are trending with Dominick McKinley after his visit for the Bayou Splash, Simmons would not be the only five-star I would currently pick the Tigers to beat the Longhorns for in August.

That was McKinley’s first time in Baton Rouge since Jimmy Lindsey got hired as the new D-line coach. Lindsey and Frank Wilson had some time with McKinley’s mother, who is steering the engine, and things went well. McKinley wanted to decide before the start of his senior season, so that is a timeline to keep in mind right now.

LSU was also able to express how interested they were in his younger brother, 2026 DL Darryus McKinley, with an in-person offer. That was something else that really hit home with mom and how close she could keep her sons close to home.

Buckle up for what should be a fun month on the trail.

This guy seems to hold the douche crown among all of the LSU reporters.  The level of smugness was nauseating.

The thing about Texas NIL is the corporate dollar that follows good performance on the field will likely dwarf any larger upfront payment provided by the LSUs and Alabamas of the world. The smartest recruits will realize this fact and bet on themselves for greater wealth in their Sophomore and Junior years.

I’m sure Auburn, LSU, A&M et al have a few slides on net present value and discounted future cash flows to counter this.

June official visits: Texas and Missouri

This week: Tennessee, Missouri, and A&M. Missouri is close to home so that’s an easy visit to make. He was last at Tennessee in May and A&M in January. Purely speculating, but perhaps this busy week is a sign he’s moving up his timeline. That could be a good thing for Texas but anytime Tennessee and A&M are mentioned you have to wonder about fast food in the case of Tennessee and the extreme recruiting outlier of 2022 for A&M.

This is one of the most unsubtle call outs I can remember from IT.  Most of the time it seems like the recruiting industry dances around this for fear of upsetting someone.

Will that help Rhule beat tOSU, Michigan, and USC regularly, highly unlikely.  That said, I think the fans would be happy for quite awhile if NU was competing well on that next tier with PSU and Wisconsin.

It is never not going to be weird seeing this…

Did Murphy declare for the NFL draft already?

At the risk of extending the stupidity from this morning, you should assume this will be Murphy’s last year…and that is a GREAT thing for Texas because it means he crushed it on the field.

One of the former players could not say enough good things about Murphy.  Great work ethic, great teammate, doesn’t blow off the student portion of student athlete, and most importantly he’s talented.  He’s not leaving to be a 7th round pick just because he’s draft eligible and is tired of playing school.  When he leaves it’s going to be after a great season when he has a fourth round + draft grade.  Stop hand wringing because the portal still exists and Texas had an upward trajectory even with an 8 win season.

That’s my limited info and analysis.  So most likely this will be a freezing cold take in 5 months.

So you read that, and thought the Nebraska poster was being serious, and then also didn't pick up the Message Board Genius sarcasm? Because that's how I read it.

Well, shit.  Maybe I am just too used to team message boards that lack the mental capacity for sarcasm and self depreciation.

You don’t seem to grasp the concept of “destination” job. There aren’t “6-19” (?) better jobs. 3 or 4 maybe.
As Texas fans we are often too myopic in our viewpoints and understanding of the sport and wider culture beyond our cloistered experience.

Really digging deep into the thesaurus for this one.  Much like legal writing, shitposts should be in plain English.

I think Alexis is pretty much a lock to be gone in the spring window or forcibly medically retired if he wants to finish out his degree. Cain could easily transfer once Mitchell and Neyor get back on the field. But, we could have a legitimate 2 deep with a 4 wide set for the first time in ages.

    X - Mitchell, Cain/Moore

    Slot1 - Worthy, Thompson

    Slot 2 - Whittington, Red

    Z - Neyor, Cook

I am sure they will shuffle guys around in 3 wide sets, but a consistent rotation of Mitchell, Worthy, Neyor*, and Whittington, with some quality snaps for Thompson and Cook seems like a very good thing.

I’m not sure we’ll see a 4-wide set work out like this if we have to take Sanders off the field.  More likely it would be our five wide set.

Maybe they work in some packages with Whittington in the backfield to allow the flexibility of multiple looks while maintaining a plausible run threat.  But that’s approaching Ian Boyd levels of wishcasting.
