Maybe it's time to arm yourself if you walk in that area regularly.  Machete seems appropriate.

Seriously, I feel like Tommy Lee Jones as Sheriff Bell.

With as many people carrying as I assume there are, and as aggressive as the homeless are downtown, I'm really amazed that we don't have more dead homeless people than we do.

I have eaten at Musume a couple times.

Doesn’t look good at all. Internet says there have been some injuries but hopefully everyone makes out okay.

I don't see how that'd be possible, just looking at that building.  Anybody in the bottom two or three floors has got to be in pretty bad shape.  And anybody on the street outside almost certainly suffered life-threatening injuries.

One of their issues is that they are competing against a company that is subsidized by multiple countries and can afford poor decisions.

I really don't want to hear it when Boeing gets all the largesse that it does from the DOD.  It's all dressed up as a procurement, but let's be real clear--the United States Government makes sure nothing too bad happens to Boeing.

I bet my bottom dollar NTSB finds out there were no bolts installed and QA/QC ate a dick

It's the only explanation I can come up with, but it's an absolutely shocking conclusion to reach.

Boeing has a real corporate-culture problem right now that needs to be addressed ASAP.

  4. I thought Lucky Boy was very meh.  Perhaps it's just that a SoCal breakfast burrito is never going to hold a candle to a good ATX breakfast taco.  But regardless, it was underseasoned, over-potatoed, and the salsa wasn't good.

We went to brunch at The Butcher, the Baker, and the Cappuccino Maker on Sunset, and it was fantastic.   Highly recommend.

Also recommend Katana on Sunset.  That was a fun place for dinner.

  5. So with AA massively cutting its schedule out of AUS and DL saying that it is going to (slowly) increase its flights, I'm wondering if I ought to switch from AAdvantage to SkyMiles.  I've not flown DL in about 25 years after a really bad experience.  But maybe it's time to end that embargo.

But the thing is, switching primary airline rewards programs seems like such a pain in the ass.  It's not just starting from scratch on the program, it's getting all new credit cards and all that shit.

  6. So we're leaving next Thursday to go to the Billy Joel concert at MSG.  Friday night is dinner at Atera.  Saturday night is Gutenberg.

Don't have any plans for the daytime.  I've never been to the Museum of New York City--that looks kind of interesting with a subsequent walk through northern Central Park.

    Thanks for your suggestions @PenelopeWitherspoon.

What’s bad about saying the school fucked the whole thing up? I’m sorry, Texas is 13-0 and snubbed I for damn sure hope the university, coaches and players go out and win. If a one loss team wins the playoffs and Texas is 14-0, I’ll print the fucking tshirts and make the trophy myself. Have you seen how many BS titles Bama claims?

now FSU is dogshit but they still were an embarrassment to their university for how they handled it across the board.  A fucking lawyer letter that’s the best effort they gave.

    It was a nice letter.

I thought the clip of her talking commerce and government overreach, and individual freedom, as fucking hilarious as a response to what caused the Civil War.  The GOP [oliticians KNOW that they have to keep the racists in their party happy, and any mention of slavery is forbidden.

Another perfect example of the elevation of stupidity as a necessity in the ranks of GOP politicians.  Haley's not stupid, but she has to act stupid, for her stupid constituents.

Yeah—imma gonna hafta disagree with you there, friend.

    She’s a fucking moron.

  9. Jesus, it was bad enough when the Ticket stream was airing ads for some Christian medical "insurance," which isn't really insurance but a well-known and -documented scam.  Shit, John Oliver even had a segment about these outfits.  They're a complete fraud aimed at the most vulnerable.  But Cumulus still happily took their money.

But now they're airing ads for the Alliance Defending Freedom, which is a fucking hate group.

Fuck that shit--I'm about ready to turn off that stream.

. . . for Texas in particular.  We'll never have to see him play at Georgia, where he'd be throwing to NFL-caliber receivers from a well-defined and -protected pocket.  Instead, he'll be playing at Nebraska in complete anonymity.

I read today that, and in no small part due to the U.S. production, OPEC control of worldwide/total petroleum is down to ~50%. That is good as it the lower that number goes, the duller their influence when they act as a cartel.

The amazing thing is that together, the United States and Canada now produce more petroleum than do Saudi Arabia and Russia combined.

We're kind of caught in this very Boomer mindset that the Arabs control the global petroleum market.  Today, that couldn't be further from the truth.  Combined, the Gulf Arab producers (i.e., Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, the UAE, and Qatar) produce less annually than the United States and Canada.

Not an O&G guy . . . honest question:  is there a difference between SPR and in-field resources in terms of response time to add supply?  I definitely recall a pretty bad lag in drilling once thousands of rigs have been mothballed after price has cratered.

Yes--the SPR is stored in salt domes in Texas and Louisiana.  So there is a lag not only in production, but in transportation.

But whether that lag is meaningful is another question.  When it comes to addressing economic considerations, which is the only purpose to which the SPR has ever been put, the lag has not been material.

Yeah, I mean no one has ever needed to fall back on reserve inventory of any production material in the history of making stuff.

But we have the reserve inventory.  It's in the ground.  It's not going anywhere.

Your point makes sense for Oklahoma as it continues to weigh the benefits of creating a Strategic Meth Reserve.  Unlike petroleum, meth has to be manufactured.  And it has to be manufactured from chemicals that themselves have to be manufactured.  So there is the potential for a shortage if there is any interruption in the manufacturing process.

But petroleum isn't manufactured.  It's already there.  All we're doing with the SPR is transferring petroleum from one hole in the ground to another hole in the ground.  And yeah, it's more accessible when it's in the second hole.  But it's not like we're ever going to have a real shortage of production equipment sufficient to justify the costs of the SPR.

The traffic is the reason I avoid LAX like the plague. I recently opted for Burbank in lieu of LAX, and which Burbank reminds me (for the Dallas folks) of Love Field before they did the previous upgrades. That is incredibly small and basic but also incredibly convenient.

I love BUR.  My favorite BUR story was from the 2005 NCG.  We spent all week in LA, going to the Tournament of Roses Parade and everything before the game.  So since we were going to be in LA for nearly a week, we decided to take one light and fly to Vegas, have dinner, make a few bets on the Longhorns, and gamble all night.

So around 8:00, we head over to BUR for the Southwest flight to LAS.  We're not even getting a hotel room, so we had no luggage.  And so Mrs.LL (back when she was just LL's Girlfriend) is dressed to go out in Vegas.  Very short tight black dress with lots of cleavage.  Cool.  I mean, it's maybe a bit of an outfit for a weekend night at the airport, but there's a flight to Vegas leaving, so it's not completely out of the realm.

We gamble all night.  Amazingly, we hit "10" on the roulette wheel.  That was fun.  Thanks, Vince.

And around 5:00 AM we head to the airport to catch the 6:15 flight back to BUR.  We land at Burbank at around 7:15 at BUR in the same clothes we went out in last night, and . . . well, Mrs.LL didn't feel terribly comfortable walking through early-morning weekday travelers at BUR in her going-out-in-Vegas attire.

They need to find a way to make sure at least one of Arkansas/A&M is in Austin every year with the other being on the road if they go to the 3 permanent rivals in 2025 and beyond.

I'm all for good home schedules but I also like winning. There is a balance to be had and it's also tough when the marquee non con game is on the road.

I initially completely misread this to mean that you thought Arkansas vs. aggy should play every year in Austin (instead of Jerryworld), and I personally think that would be awful, hilarious, and fantastic all at the same time.
