I can totally see Hamm blowing off a friend on a Friday night looking to see a new house so Hamm can go watch follow a player and attempt into the bathroom to interview a guy who might go play football at aggy. is leaning aggy at the time but gets creeped out/annoyed by his stalking and ends up picking UT.

    Fify.

Or maybe Herman shouldn’t be playing a freshmen who has suffered obvious head injuries 2 weeks in a row?

The narrative that Sam makes bad judgments when the game is on the line or doesn’t have sufficient ability to quickly process things based on how the OU and Ok St games ended last year is ridiculous. Sam should never have been put back in by Herman at the end of the OU game, and it was even more mind blowing when Herman kept him in during the Ok St game the following week after yet another head injury at the end of the game. Herman did a piss poor job of looking out for Sam’s health and best interests last season.

Lulz. It's not based on those two games.  He had a terrible turnover in USC, Ok St, WVU, and Tech, so half the games he played this year. His OU performance was actually really good aside from getting his brain scrambled at the end.  I do agree that the Ok St. game probably shouldn't be held against him too much. He without a doubt got a concussion against OU the week before and should never have been playing against Ok. st.  You could tell he was off from the start in that game.

I'm willing to chalk a good bit of his issues last year up to terrible OL, bad offensive coaching, and generally being thrust into a dysfunctional offense as a freshman.  Regardless, anyone who's decoratively pronouncing how Sam will do next year is pretty silly.  He flashed a lot of good stuff and a lot of bad stuff. If he matures and learns to play smarter, he could be a really good QB on the 40, or he could turn out to be a guy who never learns how to avoid getting absolutely demolished when he runs and continues to commit horrible turnovers.  Last year's sample wasn't enough to make much a conclusion either way.

JFC reading the last 3 pages of this thread at once is unbelievably disturbing. Karen drunk texting Hamm she's naked was bad enough but all this creepy divorce speculation took it to another level.

Well, I've made it another page and I'm even more disturbed than yesterday. The Surl has now jumped to assuming she cheated on him even though the guy Surly suspects is likely just a sibling.

    The Surlluminati cannot be stopped.

So, they were excited by his size (5'11" 210lbs) and speed (4.74) and film (which is good) but were disappointed when they saw him work out? That seems kind of odd.

But how do you know that’s actually his height and speed? He could’ve been running barefoot or been measuring next to kids with stilts on.

Just out of curiosity: you post a lot here. Do you have an actual job, is all this done on the client's dime? Are you rpongett reborn?

I'm a $9.95er sock posing as a lawyer. I needed a new account after killing rpongett.

My job ebbs and flows a lot, but I definitely waste way too much time on here. Shockingly, I was really ahead on my hours until about March 25th. Can't seem to figure out what changed.  Things are picking up quite a bit, so I'll probably be off the site for a while.

Funniest part about his stance is that it would crush their recruiting. Yet that hillbilly doesn't realize it, the same we he doesn't realize that the only reason aggy is in the SEC is for TV sets for their SEC network and recruiting grounds. Aggy is just the turd that they have to endure in the punch bowl.

aggy would cut off its right arm if it meant UT got a papercut.

Well Perroni says Shepherd is visiting Friday and Saturday so who knows.  This probably changes another time or two between the weekend.

So he'd visit on Sunday when no one else is there? But go to aggy on Saturday when they're not doing anything special? Doesn't seem to add up. Like you said, I'd bet either Perroni has bad info or plans will change.

Lulz. Who the hell is the stiff competition for Calzada? Northwestern and UNC?  Hell, Northwestern just took that Clemson transfer, so they may not be in it. I don't believe for a second UGA is actually going after him as a QB1.  Here's an article from 10 days ago on UGA QB recruiting that doesn't even mention Calzada. https://www.dawgnation.com/football/recruiting/georgia-football-uga-2019-quarterback

Well the Shepherd recruitment sure is a gift to the #MarchTo1000

EJ says he's visiting both aggy and Texas this weekend.

Thought I posted it here but it was in the Jimbo thread. The Shepherd recruitment is going to have a lot more twists and turns before February. Glad to hear he'll be at our pool party on Saturday.

Should we be ignoring the 247 composite and just go with the 247 rankings? What other services are included in their composite now that they own scout? Is it just them and Rivals and ESPN?

I'd say no. Losing Scout sucked from that standpoint since they were the second best at rankings behind 247.  All the services have their flaws, including 247, and I still think the composite does the best job of smoothing everything out.  Rivals and ESPN are both bad about committing limited resources to scouting, so they overrate kids who go to the camps they like and underrate kids they never see, however they don't rely on the same camps so using the composite kind of makes them even each other out.

This is the problem I have with the rankings. The number of stars is a good indicator of success but the system still has flaws. It is pretty apparent to many people that there are players under ranked like Brayden Liebrock and Roschon Johnson and there are others like Theo Wease who are highly overrated.

Brayden Liebrock isn't really all that underrated. 247 has him as a low 4 star and the composite has him just outside a low 4 star ranking.  I don't think that's too off. He's a 6'5, 220 lb receiving TE without elite athleticism. The fat part of the bell curve for him is being a productive player for us but not having high-ceiling, All-American type-potential, which is pretty much what a low 4 star should be.

I'm sure this next one will induce rage in some folks, but here we go. 247 is obviously low on Johnson but the composite having him at a 92 and the #201 player in the country isn't far off. He's a great runner but he doesn't have great speed, and he's definitely on the small side.  He has a lot of work to do in his passing mechanics before he can be a consistently good QB. He's got a lot of potential but also a ways to go to reach it, so his composite ranking doesn't seem all that off, either.  Theo Wease, now that's just crazy.  Same for Arjei.

Looking at our commits, no one is egregiously ranked. Whittington (at elast as a WR) is probably a little overrated, in part because he's hit the camps hard the last two years and Jake Smith is probably underrated, in part because he doesn't do  camps. The one consistent trend you can find is that guys who go to camps early and often tend to be overrated and guys who don't tend to be underrated.  Late bloomers obviously tend to be underrated too.  The All-American games seem to help level both this out a bit by the final rankings.

Overall though, the composite still seems to put most guys in roughly the right place (obviously, there are some big exceptions) and using it as an aggregate way to measure a class is still pretty sound.
