  1. I don't know. You are using land ownership as the metric to identify, but I don't think USDA does: https://modernfarmer.com/2018/06/by-the-numbers-state-of-the-independent-farmer/
  2. Sad that he was rightly fired (note, not "cancelled" but justifiably fired) for being an abuser, because he's a very fine actor. Not sad as in it was an injustice. Also, I was making a joke that the above was informing the other guys opinion of an abuser getting a second chance. I actually agree everyone should get a second chance in life, but acknowledge it's a pretty disgusting crime (domestic abuse).
  3. I think what you are missing is that the concept of a "farmer" is way different in reality than what we grew up thinking. The Iowa State guy can share, but like 80% of farms are owned by massive corporations at this point. They are high-tech, software-driven, autonomous drones and tractors and irrigation systems that rely on a handful of whitecollar tech-enabled guys and an army of Guatamalans doing grunt work for $.17 on the dollar. The small farms who aren't attractive enough to have already been bought out by big farms struggle to make a middle class living doing yeoman's work. It's truly a tragedy what's happened to farms/the farmer. But hey, PROGRESS!!!!1111
  4. I, too, thought Jonathan Majors was the lone bright spot of the MCU multiverse decline and was sad to see him fired for being an abuser, but not sure that this opinion will be well received.

    Getting old sucks

I felt this in my soul.
  6. Were exactly is 'round here? I assumed you were in Austin but now I'm thinking you live in South Jamaica Queens.
  7. geeeeeeeeez. You aren't wrong, but you paint a very dreary picture, Van Gogh.
  8. So Sheryl Sandberg was a grifter and abuser. Didn't see that one coming and what she meant by "lean in".
  9. Cheap branded pens YES! I'm knee deep in my credit union, the local ortho, and oil change pens in every room of the house. I don't think I've ever purchased a pen.
  10. It's so stupid and breaks my brain to think about anyone wanting to use this. But obviously there is a market for it or they wouldn't have rolled it out. Which makes me weep for our future that Gen Z have been so conditioned to order processed foods at 3x the price because they don't want to leave the house.
  11. This. Propaganda has been rotting brains of Americans for a century. What we got today ain't nothing new.
  12. You joke, but yesterday they did announced a Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) with the leader Klarna: https://thehill.com/policy/technology/5205786-doordash-klarna-sign-deal-for-deferred-installment-food-delivery-payments/ DoorDash and Klarna, a company that offers “buy now, pay later” programs, have come together on a deal for deferred and installment food delivery payments. “In the coming months, DoorDash customers will be able to enjoy Klarna’s seamless range of payment options when purchasing groceries, retail, and even DashPass Annual Plan – on DoorDash.com or through the DoorDash app,” according to a webpage on the deal on Klarna’s website.
  13. Don't be a stupid idiot and put that on me. It's just funny satire that pokes fun at bankers and the finance world, nothing christofascist or magat about it.
  14. Being in the Utilities & Transmission business I saw this and said "oooh, an announcment on power-- this might be market moving, what is Trump going to screw up now!" But then I realized they are talking about political power. Boring.
  15. Read a funny quote today in a satire blog: https://jabronicapital.com/p/nerd-rage
  16. I read yesterday the SF Giants are selling to PE. The NFL owners voted last year to allow PE money take ownership.
  17. But what did Andy Langer do to cause ire? Seems like a reasonable take that most people agree with.
  18. Setting up for a Kenton Paulino moment!
  19. I was the second or third car that came upon a dead body in the highway, but my the time I registered what happened I was 40 yards passed, so exited and turned around and by the time I had circled back the entire highway was shut down and fire trucks, cops, ambulances galore. There was no wreckage or debris from what I could tell, just a dead body. I had to drive 5 more hours with my anxiety at a 10 after that. My own mortality was all I could think about and was gripped with fear. Not a fun road trip.
  20. I don't know about y'all, but I would love to live in California if I could afford it.
  21. I saw someone (might have been on these threads here actually) describe it: Trump acts like the belligerent and bad cop to our friends and makes his staff be the good guys Trump acts like a friendly and good cop to our enemies and makes his staff be the bad guys. And, of all people, Rubio is seen as the good guy to our allies, EU, etc. Where I disagree with the original poster of that above is that I don't think he does this on purpose or strategically.
  22. That is hilarious and creative. Like Hitchcock's Birds is what I imagine, having never seen that movie.
  23. Well...this is depressing. I WAS having a good day. I've been reading about Ancient Rome lately (written about it a bit in the Movies thread) and have been having a hard time as it is thinking about the decline of our society. Thanks for the cherry on top.
