The Astros payroll is paying 71.3 million. 30% of the 237 million dollar luxury tax cap to 4 players with minimal to no contribution to the 2025 team. Jose Abreu (30M), Rafael Montero (11.5), Cristian Javier (12.8) and Lance McCullers (17M)
Throw in their 2 back end pen guys at 19M and 15M plus the backup catcher at 6M. 111.3M…46% of the cap on 4 non contributors, 2 bullpen dudes and a backup catcher
Wooooooof…knew it was bad but had to examine the damage. Good news is, there is a fuck ton of room next season. I wonder if there is a play with a current free agent to take a back loaded deal with less AAV next year and more moving forward, also seems to make a Framber extension a bigger possibility. Will be interesting to see play out

If there is real thought that the next administration is going to roll back these changes then why does this change what the university is planning to do? Wouldn't it make sense to slowplay stuff while clarity emerges?
Too much uncertainty for us to have a definite plan of action. Just multiple contingencies for shit that is out of our control. In the mean time, operate as usual which is full and complete compliance and follow through with all of the entities rules we have to abide by. If something happens, we will have a contingency ready for it. We are set to handle this better than most, if not all, others in the market. Lot of stupid fucks running collectives who will FAFO

Turns out Name, Image and Likeness is actually Name, Image, Likeness and Gender. This ruling is fucking stupid and will assuredly be walked back with the new admin (Will the DOE even exist lol). They want to make a rule about universities doing equal distribution....sure whatever, I can understand the premise with Title IX as it stands. The truly ridiculous part is them saying that third parties have to provide equal NIL as well....dude, lol, fuck no!
Why would a private business have to equally distribute, what equates to advertising dollars, to both genders in sports. "Sorry, you can't make your mustard with Bijan unless you make one for Madisen Skinner too", ya, sure Chief let me get right on that. The toothpaste is so far out of the tube and they have absolutely zero idea how to put it back

You know there's a non-zero chance that they gave him a contract that pays him regardless of whether or not he's doing football activities...
Please let this be true...

Absolute legend. When the Brewers and Stros played in the NL central I would find myself listening to the Brewers broadcast. RIP

To be clear, I don't think any of the 3 of us deserve any direct credit for anything that has transpired with retention over the past few days. Could be wrong about the other two guys, but I've not been involved with any of it other than bullshitting with folks.

Also the school that MM was considering is absolutely shocking and has no fucking business blowing (Seemingly) their entire NIL budget on a fucking corner. Their donors would have been much better off paying the HC buyout this year or saving it for next year

Oh I laughed bc they already did make a $40m donation like 7 months ago. Not to NIL, but they absolutely already support UT athletics

Not at a Musk level though...at least that's what I gather from this last ten-page abortion I just read

Finished it and I enjoyed it. Not as good as the first obviously and don’t want to spoil shit but the way it ended was a crazy decision

I’m sure Casey Thompson will somehow be back

Random CU hippie: Hey Payton, where are you transferring, bro?
Payton: I’m going to Oxford.
Rando: Wow, I didn’t know you were such a scholar. Wait, do you mean Ole Miss?
Payton: What? I’m going to play for Miami.
Rando: The U? Okay, back to your home state then. Austin, Boulder, Miami…can’t beat that experience, big fella. Have fun!
Payton: Um, I’m not sure if you’ve been there, but the U is *actually* in Coral Gables. That’s not anywhere close to South Beach. No, I’m going to the real Miami…of Ohio. Oxford, Ohio.
Rando: Oh, that *actually* makes more sense. Good luck!
Transfer portal fanfiction was not on my bingo card but here we are and now I gotta know….do Rando and Payton end up together in the end? Does Payton get his happily ever after? Does Rando? In your brain, do they kiss? If you’re gonna start the story you gotta finish it
(sidenote: Fuck you George RR Martin)

I would imagine Pressly will be traded once the FA closer market gets sorted. That will open a significant chunk of change. Going into opening day with that outfield is untenable

Santander is the next plan. 2 more OF, a RP and a back end starter

I think "fella" is the absolute bottom of the barrel. Somebody at the grocery store or Blockbuster video store calls you "fella" after shoulder checking you, it's high time for fisticuffs.
"Champ" probably tumbles in slightly above that for me. I get called "champ" and start looking over my shoulder for Ricky fucking Schroder.
After that it's "bud". When that waxed mustachioed bartender tells you to "check your vibes, bud" after you dressed him down for telling you that a martini can only be made with gin, it's time for a swift kick to that fucker's crotch.
"Friend" doesn't exactly set me off, but it does let me know that I could I never be that guy's friend.
Sitting atop the chain of common appellation condescension has to be "guy". It subtly signals both tones of derision and moderate respect, all at the same time.
Dismissed as time warps from the early 20th century are pal, mack, and jack and anyone using those terms in common parlance should immediately receive an atomic wedgie.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I like using the term "Big Dog" as a term of endearment for strangers or people whos name I forgot..I think the alignment chart looks something like this

The portal needs to calm down, @Helobious only has 2 hands and a full focus on DTs. I’d say he can start using his mouth but then how would he let people know that he’s Hispanic? We may have to see how dexterous his feet are before all is said and done

Kepler and Verdugo are 2 cheap corner OF options that have good upside. I prefer Verdugo but both make sense if Houston spends all their other money on 1B or SP.
Counterpoint to Verdugo…have you ever seen his face? It is immensely punchable and I don’t think I can watch that for 162+
