    USMNT 2022

I love Tyler Adams and he gave a more thoughtful response than most athletes would have, especially being put on the spot by a journalist who clearly had an axe to grind. But that's still like a 6/10 answer if we're not grading on a curve.
  2. Wouldn't be shocked to see him end up back at Arsenal before long. He's also been linked with Liverpool. (Fingers crossed.)
  3. I cannot believe how our midfield + Robinson made Bellingham and Saka completely anonymous. Incredibly impressive performance from our guys. Weston's chance in the first half was a huge miss, but we all would have taken a point before a ball was kicked. This game was a lot like Canada v Belgium, with a plucky CONCACAF underdog dominating a European powerhouse, except England couldn't complete the smash & grab like Belgium did. Thank god Harry Kane blew that free header at the end. Would've been utterly demoralizing to walk away from that match with nothing.

If we lose today and beat Iran, we're on 4 points and Iran is on 3. Wales could beat England and also be on 4 points, in which case it would come down to GD. Wales is currently at -2 so in that scenario, their GD would be no worse than -1, and we would need to beat Iran by as many goals as England beats us by.
  5. I realize the dude who made the bonehead tackle that led to their equalizer was our sole MLS player, but here's our starting XI by league: Premier League: 5 Serie A: 2 Championship: 1 La Liga: 1 Ligue 1: 1 MLS: 1 Bigger than our on-field talent is that our manager had a 38% win percentage in the aforementioned farmers league.

It's been stated by others but the idea that Wales waltzes to three points against Iran is silly. Iran is much better than they played against England and Wales kinda sucks. They have a lot of heart and are physical but I think a draw is the most likely result for them on Friday. Heard someone comment the other day that the USMNT never wins games in which they don't play well the entire 90 minutes. If it's the classic "tale of two halves", we always drop points. That makes sense, given our youth and lack of experience on the biggest stage, but it would be nice to see us pull out a smash and grab every once and awhile and win some matches when we've not been the best team.
  7. England might play some of their B team against Wales if they've already qualified, but that's guys like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden, who will be fresh and fired up. Bale has always had fitness issues too. Yeah, slight exaggeration perhaps but they have a lot of talent are really tough to beat. Physical as hell and can grind out results.
  8. Um, Netherlands and Ecuador are both fucking loaded with talent. Honestly might put both of them ahead of France right now given Les Bleus' injury problems.
  9. I fully support Ronaldo coming to the United States because he will definitely not be detained for a credible rape accusation. He's not guilty, right? So why wouldn't he?

On the one hand, consumers tend to value your product more when you charge them more. On the other, yeah, no one is going to pay for this. The major sticking point for me is that I generally dgaf about clubs other than my own, except when it comes down to a late-season playoff race or if there's a Supporters Shield to be won. No promotion/relegation, a regular season that doesn't matter nearly the same way as it does in European leagues, and because of conferences – I just don't care about a June match between NYCFC and Minnesota. The league is evolving ever so slowly, and Apple coming onboard with a vested interested in improving the quality of the product, gives me hope that it can be a league that I genuinely care about as much as the PL. But there's a long way to go for sure and if I wasn't a season ticket holder, I doubt I'd pay $15/month for the season pass.
  11. Really? I don't know much about him but he seems like one of the better billionaires out there and The Athletic named him the best owner in the NBA back in 2020. Not sure there's a better potential suitor out there tbh.
  12. The third save Kelleher made was unreal. Up next we get Southampton with their new manager.
  13. I'm not sure there are better owners out there tbh. Perhaps FSG have taken the club as far as they can/are willing, but most owners suck and at least FSG have brought us a trophy haul and stability. I certainly wouldn't want an oil state to buy the club and most billionaires are fucking crazy. Devil you know and all.

I'm pretty bullish on the Apple TV deal. MLS as a brand has never been cool – though they've come leaps and bounds the last few years – and Apple absolutely crushes branding, aesthetic, and user experience. Obviously they can only do so much as a broadcaster, but they're pretty heavily invested in this and I think they will take the league forward. Their sizzle reel is fantastic and I hope it's a sign of things to come. The league has long needed a Match of the Day show that's worth a damn and I would imagine Apple has something up their sleeve for this. One thing that I find funny about MLS is how fans only watch their team, and generally speaking have no clue about other teams in the league. I'm not sure if Apple will be able to help in that regard but I think a good highlights production could really change general knowledge of the league.

Holy shit what a match. We were sitting front row behind the goal on the north end, so we were ten yards away from Bale's 128th-minute equalizer. Could not have asked for a better final.

There was talk of it last week but I'm honestly glad they're keeping it at our home field. Would feel much more like a neutral venue if they'd moved it and I'd be really annoyed if I couldn't sit in our usual seats.

I live near an Expo line stop so that's how I always get to games, but yeah, a pain in the ass for a lot of people.

Nice season for Austin F.C. Good showing by the away support yesterday as well. Hope everyone who made it had a good game day experience – I didn't see anything untoward from the LA fans so hopefully that was the case for all visiting fans. We had pretty good seats and got to watch Chiellini tussle with Djitte up close. Gonna have to make it to Austin next year for an away match.
  19. Another great game for Harvey too. The goal was a really nice finish but he was all over the field.

I will be there this weekend, though not cheering for El Tree. Hoping Chiellini starts after only making a substitute appearance in El Trafico. Vela was subbed after 78' and I haven't found anything indicating that it was injury-related but that would be the only concern heading into the match. Well, besides getting zero points in our two meetings w/ y'all this year...
  21. They want to keep us guessing so we have to pay for Peacock and a standard TV subscription?
  22. Gerrard never struck me as a player who would make a good manager after he hung up his boots. Incredibly talented, obviously, but his game was all action and impulse, and he could be incredibly frustrating at times. He had some success at Rangers but the SPL is probably about his level. Villa was always going to be a big task, with a very talented squad and European ambitions. It'll be interesting to see what his next move is and if/when he manages again.

Had tickets to El Trafico last night but Covid had different plans so I couldn't make it, but holy shit what a match. Hopefully going to the semis. Denis Bouanga has been a revelation for LAFC.
