I said this the other day and was ridiculed as being out of touch and tone deaf because, I guess, everyone of course loves to use the USPS in this whole revival of "well askhully, the government is efficient and hires smart, ambitious people".

Of course, you ignore the part where you guessed that USPS wasn't even used by the majority of people despite 100 billion plus items delivered through it every year. So yes, you were ridiculously out of touch.

That said, using USPS drop boxes for checks isn't a good idea.

I notice when they “washed” the check, the washing bled into the line where I wrote the amount in cursive. In reconstructing it, the thief omitted the word “thousand”, so I’m hopeful that helps in getting the money back from the bank.

Wait, the bank is giving you problems about covering the money? From what you've said, this is definitely on them. The UCC is pretty clear about this.

Yes, but that’s a court mandated schedule and not a Trump accommodation

This is a horrible trial schedule. It is essentially half-days and partial weeks. Gross.

Wrote it to Citi, and somehow an individual put their name in as the payee. Yes, I have an image. Not my script.

Do the other fraudulent checks appear to be same check with the payee information changed? Anyway, yes, I'd report to police and FBI.

    Could use advice.
I pay off the credit card balance monthly. Got a call from Citi asking why the payment is six days late. I said, “You’re crazy.  I paid and you cashed it”. They said nuh uh.

Checked the bank app. Someone else’s name written instead of Citi. Not my handwriting.

Also- a check payment made today to Verizon. I do no business with Verizon.

Called the bank- filed disputes, froze account and opened new one. Resolved to only pay online now.

I asked the bank if I should file with police, and if so, who? They wouldn’t answer.

So, Surly-world- advice? Report to local police? Postal inspector? Anyone have any functional experience? Thanks for all advice.

So you wrote a check to Citi, and someone besides Citi cashed it? Or you just mean someone got a hold of your check book and has been writing fraudulent checks? Do you have images of the fraudulent checks?

I eat plant based meats. They’re delicious. My wife makes the best impossible lasagna. I also eat regular meat. Also delicious.

I haven’t found a plant based chicken that’s good yet. That shit needs work.

I eat meats that were fed plants. Does that count?

I was going to ask if anyone had seen a non-compete vigorously enforced.  I have seen/heard bluster and sternly worded notes but not seen full blown litigation.  Although I am sure it happens, it doesn't seem really common.  Broadly, I think NC for Fortune 500 companies are a joke.  As with most rules and regulations its small to mid-cap companies that will be hurt the most.

Non-compete lawyers aren’t a fiction, it happens. many of those cases will continue under breach of confidentiality and misappropriation of trade secret clauses.

    Yes many, many times.

Yeah, it happens pretty often. Now, those are still a very small percentage of the non-competes/non-solicitation clauses that are technically breached, but the threat of it isn't something that should be ignored.

Yep. I can’t consult and be staffed on any projects for a F100 organization with a new company, until 2025, because of a non-compete. I wonder if this is now retroactively trashed or if this only for moving forward.

it is retroactive except if you're in senior management.

The $21 billion is current period operations for units within the EUCOM AO. After the invasion, we activated a bunch of units and sent them over, combat units in particular. Of course they were not funded through regular order, so they are using these types of supplementals to fund those guys. Probably.

The security assistance is direct military aid in the form of military materiel.

The "replenish stocks" is DIB/MIC stuff. Big 5 military contractors getting rich. Which I agree with sort of, but this is not the right way to do it.

The loan forgiveness is............interesting. I don't know what is in the bill, and I can't say more but if I did some people here would lose their minds. I'd really like to know what that is.

Israel gets $13 billion for "defense activities"?  $6 billion for "deterrence" to Indopac?

Of the $95 billion, there is about $28 billion of direct assistance, of which $9 billion is humanitarian.

Again, you haven't been paying attention.

We give Ukraine old equipment. That equipment has some value, even if depreciated, so that largely makes up the direct assistance column. When we do that, we create gaps in our inventory/capabilities that need to be replenished with new equipment. That is the DIB/MIC stuff. It is also a pre-requisite to the direct aid since the military doesn't want to lose something without some promise of it being replaced. The forgivable loans are the things that House leadership came up with to make the bill more palatable. They are, as stated, loans given to Ukraine that may or may not be forgiven in the future. Ukraine can use those loans to buy stuff from us (or maybe others, I haven't looked to see if there are limitations on their use).

So, of the $60 billion for Ukraine, at least $39 billion is either going directly to Ukraine or enabling or ability to send resources to Ukraine. And, really, that number is higher since the $21 billion for European operations also enables our ability to provide Ukraine with equipment and intelligence. Again, where is the pork?

I don’t think it’s true. The juror that was dismissed after the Fox News report was originally going to be Juror #2 before the full jury was seated. She asked to be withdrawn due to the personal information shared and the Truth Social user was seated with the full jury as Juror #2.

That makes some sense. I was just going off of what was said in the prior post. That said, the reporting on this has been fairly confusing. There was a juror that asked to speak with the court after the jury had been selected. My understanding at the time was that juror was not dismissed. However, subsequent reporting seems to suggest the juror was in fact dismissed. Typically, once a jury is selected, you wouldn't renumber them if one leaves. The alternate just takes their place. However, maybe the reporting on juror dismissal had to do with a different event, which is why all of this is confused. I'll have to try and track down the actual timeline to get clarity here.

Ugh, this doesn't feel like it's going to go in prosecution's favor now - assuming DJT complies, why else make the request if not to provide DJT an out?

Judge Juan Merchan said he wants to hear an assertion under oath that Donald Trump believed he wasn't violating the gag order when he made the posts in question.

Uh, I read that the opposite way. A judge asking for testimony under oath in connection with a sanction hearing is rarely a good sign for the person being sanctioned. It isn't a free out. It is an opportunity for Trump to dig himself a deeper hole. And, at least in my experience, when the judge asks for this, the judge is going to be asking some questions as well. This isn't a one shot free of cross examination. No way in hell I'd like Trump on the stand if I were his attorney.

Eh, we all know what each of us is doing. I guess the only real mystery is if we are doing it in our underwear or not.

I actually have to leave the office for an hour or so around 9:15, and I'm not sure my AI bot is capable of scraping this off of the NYTimes and re-posting here for the viewing pleasure of everyone, but I'll see what I can do.

    And with that:

Conroy says that Trump “violates the order when he posts about known witnesses or reasonably forseeable witnesses,” and “violates the order when he posts about a juror or prospective juror.”

And finally, Conroy says Trump violated the gag order when on Truth Social, he quoted the Fox News commentator Jesse Watters denigrating prospective jurors as "undercover liberal activists.” Prosecutors have flagged this as the most serious of the violations and Conroy does so again, calling it “very troubling.”

Conroy points to the timing of the post, last Wednesday evening. The next morning, Juror #2 came into court and asked to be excused. This upset Justice Merchan. He complimented the juror after excusing her, saying she would have done a good job.

I didn't realize Juror #2 had been dismissed. That was the Truth Social/X user.

Like I said I do love this place.  The fact that you even typed "But, it could also have floated to shore and been eaten by cannibals" is just proof of how deranged some of you get.  So a plane goes down and the lone survivor gets rescued many hours later.  There are no other bodies around.  They search the area for hours looking but find nothing.  But you suggested that sometime later the body came loose from the wreck and washed up on a beach.  And further that some cannibals found it and decided to eat a many days old dead and decomposing body that was completely infected.  You truly think that is possible?  Even cannibals dont eat many days old rotten infested human remains.  LOL

    I agree. You're deranged.

But "they couldn't find the body BECAUSE there were cannibals" is demonstrably incorrect.

Umm, actually, it isn't. We don't have any definitive evidence what happened to his body. Most likely it ended up at the bottom of the ocean and consumed by sea life. But, it could also have floated to shore and been eaten by cannibals. Again, you're making a mountain out of a very modest embellishment of his family's history. Of the list of top offenses by a sitting President, I'd wager it rates slightly above eating fancy mustard, slightly below wearing a tan suit, and at least 100,000,000 spots below almost every single thing Donald Trump did or said as President.

Still laughing.  The attempted spin from you and Roma  is impressive though.  Lets pretend FF did have the exact same family story.  Then FF got into politics.  Then FF was runninmg for relection for POTUS and everyone thought he had mental issues.  So one of the biggest issues his campain is trying to deal with is to not let him seem like a dementia patient.  If FF still told the story and used the word cannibal it would absolutely be a sign that he was mentally infirm.  Especially considering that there is undeniable information that is easily found by a 10 year old that the story waqs untrue.

His entire staff is engaged in trying to not let him look like a senile old man.  I am sure they told him he could use the story about his uncle dying in the war and how it would be used to show how bad Trump is.  But they told him, under no ciscumstance can you utter the word cannibal.  But he did.

    The cannibal part is true.

    Just too funny and perfect.

Dahobbs-  Even when I was high I did not think anyone would try this line of spin.  Sorry I underestimated you.  Of course this was a "family" story.  I am sure Biden has told it many times.  The issue is that he has been in government forever, has been a senator forever, the vice president and now president.  Google has been around for a while now.  It is absolutely impossible that he has not been corrected on the story numerous times over the years by his staff.  Yet in a heated campain where his mental state is a huge issue he still said it again.  The reason that is so bad and so indicative of his mental state is that everyone, except apparently Biden himself, knows the story is bogus and, most importantly, knows that it is easily refuted.  Like I said, if he just never says the word cannibal this story never gets traction.  When he said cannibal it immediately sensationalized the story.  But he said it anyway.

I love this too.  "(3) "Shot down" - wrong based on army records (although those aren't always known to be 100% accurate). "  LMAO.  You do realize that one man did survive the crash right?  He was able to tell what happened.  He was rescued at sea.  Every member of Biden's team knows this.

Roma.  As always, I appreciate your important service to the board.

Good god you're such a moron. Shot down vs crashed during WW2 in such a minor fucking detail and hardly the point of the story. It matters in not the slightest. Everything else was demonstrably correct. At the very worst, we are dealing with a slight bit of exaggeration in a family story from 80 years ago. Again, Biden was fucking 2 when it happened.

In your mind, that makes the guy that thinks vaccines are evil the better candidate.

I tend to believe we should hold the most powerful man in the world to a higher standard than what FF can remember 40 years from now. I get we got away from that after Bush 1 but the last 7-8 years, wow.

What is the specific detail of his recounting of this story that you think qualifies as anything above a very minor gaffe? What standard are you looking for here? The remember every specific detail about family history from 80 years ago standard? Seriously, you think that is important? Fucking non-sense and you know it. I love how you're happy to drag on about minor details like this, but never post about Trump's actually important errors. Nothing about the country's or world's security is affected by Biden's recollection of ancient family history. It most certainly is affected by a treasonous President conspiring with a foreign adversary to our detriment. Get fucked.

I love this place sometimes.  There are 2 different clips of this.  One where Biden is walking and talking with the press and one where he is inside giving a riveting campain speech.  I quoted the speech where he was inside.  I posted it twice.  You guys keep quoting from the impromptu speech outside.  In the official speech he gave inside his exact words (still laughing that someone called me out for saying almost exactly because I eliminated the weird pauses) were the following-

"And he got shot down in new guinea and uh they never found the body because there used to be uh a lot of cannibals for real in that part of new guinea"

    Spin away.

You're a fucking idiot. He was two when his uncle died. He is relaying a family story. His uncle was apparently involved, either as a pilot or other crew member, with recon flights for the army. His plane did crash off the coast of New Guinea. The body was never found. There were in fact cannibals in New Guinea. Nothing about his story is wildly inaccurate. Nothing about it is crazy. Yes, he doesn't have specific evidence that his uncle's body was eaten by cannibals. But seriously, go vote for RFK.

If I ask @fattyflattie about his relatives from 80 years ago, I'm quite certain he will not get the details 100% historically correct. But that would not be a sign that @fattyflattie is mentally infirm. Essentially no one would pass the test you're apparently asking of Biden. This is stupid. And you fucking know it.
