  1. Not going to lie, it was liberating walking into Lucky on a Sunday morning to buy some beer.  Now it’s nothing special.  Also, you can buy hard liquor anywhere, which is kind of cool.  Texas liquor laws are just stupid.

  2. Brisket , this too shall pass.  Be there for them, it’s all you can do.  You can’t fix their relationship.

Moms and daughters seem to go through a real tough phase between 18 and early twenties.  I’m seeing it, but much milder, with my very smart college sophomore.

Where?  I'm pretty sure my daughter found several of the out of state schools she was looking at said college enrollment didn't establish state residency.

I think this is correct for the UC schools.  Hell I live here and they’re very finicky on the residency for anyone who has been here less than three years or who didn’t attend high school all their years here.  Pretty sure being a student does not make you a resident unless you’re not a dependent.

  4. I will sheepishly raise my hand and say I have recently had the same experience as skipper.  I pay my card off monthly, and I kind of rocked back in my chair when I opened the Amex statement on my computer.  Shit is expensive, in general.  College tuition is still the most inflated but groceries are trying their hardest.  Airline travel is actually relatively cheap in my view.

  5. Still logging my calorie intake, which has been the key thing to make sure I don’t stray too much.  What is interesting is it was pretty easy for the first twenty five pounds and now it’s very incremental, like at best a pound or two a month.  It’s the longest I’ve been since college and it’s amazing how much better my knees feel.  Started running consistently again and am slowly increasing the distance, but not frequency.

The most noticeable change is I really can’t overeat anymore.  One plate of food is completely satisfying.  Never really had serious hunger issues as I’ve stayed with about 2000 calories per day.  I think my baseline with zero exercise is around 2400.

Also allowing myself a beer now every once in a while.  I think when I get to target, around 245, I’ll see about going further.

Whether Sark is or isn't the guy long term and regardless of how much extra compensation he gets after this season, what's more important I think is that he has proven that you can still win at Texas. He has proven that the location, brand, culture, boosters, campus leadership etc. is not incompatible with winning and that Texas is still a blueblood of the game. Which makes sense given the national success that so many sports at Texas have enjoyed since 2009 - but Texas football was never going to be back until it was back.

Now that it is - it's easy to feel better about the future whether Sark is here 5, 10, 15 more years. The guy after Sark doesn't have to suck like the two guys between him and Mack did. He's reminded everyone what the standard should be and that it is attainable.

Great post.  Quoted for a really level headed opinion on this.
