  1. Yesterday I had Heim BBQ for the first time in a few months. This pains me to say but wow their quality has taken a big hit. Their move from the southside trailer to magnolia was smooth but I don't know what the hell was on my plate. Inside of the restaurant looks great, bar is still incredible, but the BBQ just isn't what it used to be. I hate saying that because Travis is a hell of a pitmaster and he's just someone you want to root for. Maybe it was a bad day? I'm not writing them off just yet.

  2. My biggest bets all come from the OU game. Best way to figure out how to bet is to spend a week listening to WWLS in Oklahoma City. If they're really arrogant and Texas is the underdog then bet the farm on Texas. Craziest thing I've ever done was put $1000 on Texas +13.5 against OU in 2013 but I pretty much doubled my money.

  3. I'm a season ticket holder. My upper deck seats are terrible during hot weather. Even when it's a night game those seats are still recovering from being in an oven all day long. I don't go to day games at the temple because of that. It's tough reselling those tickets in the summer, doesn't matter if the team is winning or not.

  4. I'm kind of indifferent to JH's poem. On one hand he's getting free room and board, living expenses, and a degree from the greatest university in the world so I don't see how he's being exploited or being "treated like a slave" but then again his life experience growing up may be shaping his mindset and if you didn't experience it growing up then you don't know what it's like. If it helps him get named to the Academic All-Big 12 Team then more power to him.

I'm prepared to write a review on a Woodford Reserve Bath Proof.

It's good, as expected for a high proof from Woodford. It's priced too darned high though. I'd say it's a buy in the $75 range, but they tacked another 50 bucks on to MSRP.

Has anybody visited the Woodford distillery? Any unique tastings/buys available?

I visited the distillery in 2012 and it was breathtaking. Exit Highway 60 to the distillery takes you through beautiful horse farms and rolling grassy hills. I don't remember any special tasting (I think $10 got you a heavy duty plastic WR shot glass and one shot) but the tour was pretty good. It's not as good of a tasting tour as Makers Mark or Barton 1792.

  6. I've learned to ignore recruiting rankings (you can thank the last decade of Texas football for that) but his gambling info is top notch. 7-1 betting on Texas to start the season with a triple play on Texas +9 against OU.

  7. Looked all over the area for this beer and had to drive through goddamn Gun Barrel City just to find it. It's okay. If you've ever had Bud Light Lime, it's less limey and more salty. Not quite what I expected from the Shiner brand.

  8. Dallas passed a bag tax a few years ago but it was gone within 6 months because they were being sued and couldn't afford to fight it. What happens now? Is HEB going to start giving away bags for free or will they just completely do away with them?

  9. Just recently discovered 4Ts BBQ in Forney. Brisket is really good with a nice crunchy bark, same goes for the pulled pork. Ribs are rubbed with some kind of brown sugar lather and it's delicious. I can't say enough good things about the brisket though. Definitely better than Lockhart but maybe a tad bit below Pecan Lodge.

  10. I know I bought last year's tickets on Stubhub around the end of August but that probably isn't when individual tickets went on sale. I think mdmost is correct.

I am not in "the militia."  No one can call me up for anything for any reason.  It's about like saying I can deputize myself in law enforcement and start arresting people. No, I can't.

I think you're applying some kind of formality to the militia that just doesn't exist. It's the people who are supposed to rebel against a tyrannical government. There are no uniforms for the militia. Remember that the Stuart kings destroyed the citizen's militia not by killing them or jailing them but by disarming them. That's why the second amendment refers to a "well regulated militia". It has nothing to do with the formality of enrolling in the service, wearing a uniform, being deputized, etc.

There is no "citizen's militia."  Why do you think there is?

When Abbott wheeled into action to protect us from Jade Helm, did he activate the "citizen's militia?"  Who are these people and do they have any official status?

You're in the militia. I'm in the militia. You don't think a citizen's militia exists? George Mason thinks there is. "I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for a few public officials."

"Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American...the unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people"

Who do you think arms the National Guard?

Are we talking about the armed forces or the citizen's militia? What you're asking is apples and oranges.

And no, a militia is not civilian.  Well, they are until they're called up, which was the point of the 2nd Amendment at the time.  Eskimo touched on this but at the founding of the country, they were worried about enemies both "foreign and domestic" and we didn't have a large standing army and some even opposed the concept of one entirely.  However, we needed a tool to fight off invasions and put down internal groups (slave revolts if necessary).  So, voila, a "well regulated militia," similar to today's National Guard.

But in order to be called up, you have to be armed. The government isn't going to supply arms to the people's militia. You cannot have a well regulated militia if the militia (being the whole body of the people) is not armed and ready.
