But you missed the difference: speech that is ALLOWED, vs. speech that is SPONSORED.

Imagine a group that says that jews exercise outsize control in the world, have sinister motivations, and we must keep our eyes on them.  Or, flip that, and make it a group that says the same thing about muslims.  That group, the anti-jew or anti-muslim group, intends to have a rally on campus, where they state their views and try to get the university and its students to adopt those views.  I am 100% in favor of such speech being ALLOWED, even though I find it abhorrent.

Now, imagine those same two groups....except the university INVITES the group's leader to come give a speech on "why the jews/arabs are the world's biggest problem, and my suggestions on how to drive them out of America."  It's part of the University of Texas Distinguished Thought Leader Lecture series.  I don't want my university SPONSORING such speech, so I don't think we should invite that speaker to our lecture series.

ALLOW abhorrent speech -- yes, we must.

SPONSOR abhorrent speech -- we should think really, really hard about it, weighing a shitload of factors.  But we should lean AGAINST doing so, as a university.

    That's a big difference.

You missed a big difference: their call to action against the IAC had no element of sponsorship, and nothing to do with UT. (Which is separately from their cancellation request on a speaker).

They demanded, verbatim, for that IAC event to be “shut down”. Meaning they wanted, if they had their way, that that event could not exist.

And the nature of the IAC Summit is far from anti-anything.

And yes, man, i already agree with you: that all this shit must be *allowed*, no matter how abhorrent and anti-whomever. Although people in this thread dont demonstrate the same beliefs. Im pointing how ironic the turns tabled in this instance.

Something tells me you didn't give a shit about any of this group or even know about them until abbott targeted them for brutality

Do I need to be sympathetic to either party to notice hypocrisy?

Yes. We know you think it's hilarious when protesters are beaten up by cops.

You should cry into your keffiyeh over it.

I don't understand what is offensive or scary about this. Are we concerned that occupying grass is going to disrupt something?

What is offensive or scary or about the 2023 Israeli-American Council Summit in Austin that this same PSC group demanded to be shut down, on grounds of danger?

Ummmm.....show me the problem here?  It's perfectly fine for any group to tell the university "this shit/that shit doesn't belong here.  You shouldn't sponsor it it."  Put the complaint on the desk, let the university consider it and act/not act.  That's how the process works.

If these guys were demanding that the university not ALLOW a jewish group to march, speak, etc., because of the CONTENT of that message, they'd be in the wrong.  They can still make the demand, of course.  It's just that it should be summarily rejected.

I dont disagree. The state has no right infringing on speech that is not yet violent and the university has no place shutting down events that are not disruptive.

Correct, its “fine” for the PSC to make this *plead* against another groups right to convene. My point wasnt that their demand per se is a problem, but that its hilariously backfired. Didnt know the jaguar would eat MY face.

Blind date saw the original cut at the theater. I watched Redux last night. And after watching it again I realized it would be best seen on the big screen.

    Oh no! Not intimidation chants!

The type of people who yesterday characterized anodyne speech they didnt like as “racist coded dogwhistles” are today dismissing speech they like as mere “intimidation chants”.

For audio, I had a Pioneer receiver and a modest 2.1 setup with a sub, but wife complained in the past about the size of the speakers, etc.

    "It's a grower, not a shower".

My wife was also a bit disturbed by effects from rear speakers mounted near sitting location, but she's gotten around it now.

My Sonos runs rock solid on our network - Arc is hardwired and creates its own mesh network, including to other nodes upstairs. Only gripe is that the vertical Atmos height effect is very minimal. I have ideal rectangular shaped room with smooth ceilings for the upfiring speakers to bounce, but don't get a real sense of height separation.  The overall audio impression watching something like Dune is amazing still.

As an illiterate, not being true to the book is a feature not a bug. Hearing “according to the book” - who gives a shit?

his criticism is valid though of paul's sudden turn from being in teenage lust to 'oh yeah imma wed the emperor's daughter'.  that part was a bit short circuited

agreed on the no-cook sauce.  i do neapolitan style exclusively, so i stick with whole san marzanos and just squeeze them by hand directly on the pizza. 🥶

Best pizza ive made to date. My primary issue was shaping a good pie base so it cooks evenly. When I stretch it thin, it would either break or contract back instantly.

The solution is to shape in multiple stages. Do the initial flattening by any method you like (i prefer the palm flip). Let it sit. It might contract a little. Then pick it up and continue to shape. At this stage the best method is probably draping it over both fists.

Now when you sit it down, itll hold its shape. And on a bamboo or birch peel with lots of surface texture, it wont stick. I barely use any flour at all.

For the tomatoes I crush the San Marzanos through a potato ricer so each spoon is mealy instead of watery.

With 12” Ooni Koda I let center of pizza stone hit 380C (so far end is 450 and near end is 300C or so). Turn heat to minimum when firing the pizza. This gives right balance of heat on top and bottom, and adequate time to rotate pizza before it burns on one end.

No pix but will be doing tons more pies this season now that ive nailed my cooking.

reflecting on the older episodes i find it a bit fiction-implausible for nagakado to have killed nebara jozen. even given his immaturity and desire to prove himself to daddy, theres so much understood ritual, customs, and rules, that it should be strongly out of character to have done such a thing. (trying to merk his traitorous uncle, on the cusp of war, is entirely another thing)

60K miles. Fucking absurd. That was almost a new car when I was a kid.

Lol, same. Arent you just at the edge of warranty coverage? My old GTI had its whole entertainment unit go out months before its warranty expired, and the Passport I bought my parents had its AC crap out months after. Those are the only multi-$k issues both cars had. Funny how that works.
