I don't know that I've ever seen an NBA draft as messy and unpredictable as this one. I suppose there will be a little more clarity once the lottery goes down, but probably not much.
Iin the meantime here is a consensus draft that takes input from the Athletic, ESPN, The Ringer, Tankathon, Yahoo, and a bunch more of them.
I do think it's most likely that Sarr ends up number 1. I think that scouts will look at all the other guys and say fuck it, let's default to drafting the biggest most athletic dude with the highest upside. But who knows? Each guy has some serious flaws, including Sarr.
- Risacher was thought to be maybe the safest prospect who at worst case would be a serviceable three and D guy, but his shooting has gone into the toilet over the past several weeks. And people are wondering which part of his season is the aberration.
- Topic got hurt just when his team stepped up in class and has been slow to recover from something that was perceived to be minor. Another guy with suspect outside shooting. You also wonder if he can guard anybody.
- Dillingham is undersized and a poor defender.
- Clingan is not really built for the modern game.
-
Sheppard is undersized and
whiteathletically limited. - Buzelis can't shoot.
- Castle can't shoot, either.
- Cody Williams was injured, often invisible, and has a sketchy 3 point shooting projection.
- Ron Holland is yet another guy who can't shoot.
One guy who I kinda have my eye on is Jared McCain from Duke. He's one of the better shooters in the draft, a surprisingly decent rebounder for his size, and probably a better athlete and defender than given credit for. I think he's going to shoot up the board as we get closer to the draft.
I'm interested to see where the older guys like Dalton Knecht, Devin Carter and Terrance Shannon go. In this draft in particular, teams may opt for more established prospects earlier in than we've seen in the past.
i like McCain too. i'm hoping for one of McCaiin, Williams, or Castle for the Rockets if they end up picking #9.

quinn is going to fucking dominate during the 2024 season. all these HSO's after a spring game are laughably predictable

I had 6 of my position players go 0/4 without walking. Most anemic team ever.
my offense is straight dog shit as well. maybe we can battle all season for shittiest offense ever crown.

damn, one of the most prolific posters on this site is permabanned and i don't know a single thing about it for two weeks until i see it mentioned in passing on another thread? i clearly don't keep up with the day to day around here as much as i used to.

this doesn't appear to have a lot of legs this year, but just in case we end up having a contest this year i am picking New Orleans and Golden State tonight.
-
We can, it will just be one more external scoring piece that will need to be added but its no big deal on my end to do so.
3 extra points for predicting the correct number of games the series lasts (must also have the winner). after round 1, you have to have the correct matchup in order to be eligble for the bonus (example if okc beats dallas in 6 in round two but you had picked okc over the clippers in 6, you get the points for okc winning but not the bonus for correctly picking the correct # of games).
I'm assuming the brackets have to be completed on espn.com by tip off on saturday, but the contest will start here tomorrow by posting your picks for winners of tomorrow night's play-in games.
-
just plan on having the #9 pick and being pleasently surprised if it's any better than that.

$25 entry fee, winner take all.
gonna use espn.com to keep track of picks this year. we'll use their scoring with one slight modifcation
1) play in games. post your picks for every play in game on this thread. every correct pick = 3 point bonus. there will be a total of 6 play in games so that's a possible 18 extra points on whatever your final score on espn.com is.

Just saw the finish, holy shit...
What do people think the scorecards would have been if it had gone one more second?
1 hour ago, JohnnyRage said:Easily unanimous decision, probably all 49-46, maybe one or two 48-47's if you follow my flawed theory.
Holloway was easily winning. I suppose someone could have been generous and given Gaethje a round if they wanted, but Max dominated the whole fight....and then punctuated it with 1 second to go.

I must be missing something with Vampire Weekend. I’ve tried, and I don’t think I’ve heard one song of theirs that I enjoyed.
i for the most part agree with you, but do really enjoy "this life."

There's about a 51% chance Houston is picking 9th and about a 26% chance they're picking 10th
Assuming they keep the pick and don't land in the top four via the lotto, how would you rank the top ten targets?
I'd go these top eight in some order:
Risacher
Williams
Buzelis
Sheppard
Topic
Sarr
Castle
Holland
And then these two for 9/10 in some order
Cligan
Dillingham
i'm not going to pretend to know anything about the foreign guys or the g-leaguers, but based upon the guys i've seen in college this year i'd be fine with:
1. Donovan Clingan - think he'd be a perfect backup to Sengun and provides a defensive presence that Sengun lacks
2. Rob Dillingham - electric scorer. may profile to a 6th man/Lou Williams type of role, but that's fine the Rockets don't need this pick to be a star
3. Cody Williams - defensive wing who can be Tari Eason insurance
4. Jared McCain - would fill a similar role to the one mentioned for Dillingham. better size and probably a better shooter, but more of a one dimensional scorer than Dillingham
5. Dalton Knecht - another scorer, who could start or come off the bench
6. Stephon Castle - big, defensive guard with questionable jump shot. sort of in the Amen Thompson mold though obviously not as athletic.
Given that there should be several foreign and g-league guys picked in the top 10, my assumption is that it is very likely that at least one of these guys will be available whenver the Rockets pick.

yeah we're fucked.

can't wait to dive into the new Phosphorescent this evening.

mcdermott is a tourney choker who is 0-6 lifetime against rick barnes. pass. the current coach at mcdermott’s former school might be the leader in the clubhouse for a realistic replacement. of course that’s 2-3 years down the road, so who knows what the landscape will look like at that time.
In the past four seasons McDermott has won a game in the tournament every season, been to 3 Sweet Sixteens and 1 Elite Eight. I wouldn't thumb my nose at him.

Is there any payout for dead last? Like getting their money back? Somehow, with my second bracket, I did the exact opposite of winning.
that's not a bad idea since people can't update their picks once the contest begins. i think we should implement a refund for the last place finisher next year.

nice first outing from chris sale: 5.1ip, 2er, 5h, 7k, 2bb. if he can be good (and healthy( this year then the braves will have a very formidable top 3 in the rotation.

thought they may try and fuck him out of the win after seeing some of the "expert" scorecards. haney landed like 12 power punches and was knocked down 3 times and there were people who had him winning.
